Marit Bjoergen lived up to her billing as the hot favorite by winning the womens 15-kilometer skiathlon at Sochi on Saturday, giving the Norwegian cross-country skier her fourth career Olympic gold medal. Bjoergen pulled away from Swedens Charlotte Kalla on the final straight to win in 38 minutes, 33.6 seconds and defend her title from the 2010 Vancouver Games. Kalla was 1.8 seconds back. Heidi Weng of Norway took bronze. Bjoergen was the most successful athlete of the Vancouver Games with three gold medals, a silver and a bronze and showed right away she has the ability to match that feat in Sochi. With a group of five skiers staying together until the last kilometer, Kalla tried to pull away in the final tough uphill section and decide the race before the final sprint. Only Bjoergen was able to match her pace going up the hill, and the Norwegian then went in front as they entered the stadium. Kalla had no answer for the strong finish by Bjoergen, who had time to turn her head and then raise her arm in celebration as she crossed the line. The skiathlon event starts with 7.5 kilometers of classical-style skiing before switching to freestyle, making it a tough test of the athletes all-round abilities. Kalla won the 10K freestyle event in Vancouver four years ago and showed she has vastly improved her classical style skiing since then. She has never finished on the podium in a skiathlon on the World Cup circuit and celebrated as if she had won on Saturday, raising her arms to celebrate as she crossed the line behind Bjoergen and then jumping up and down holding her skis in the air. She prevented a Norwegian sweep of the medals, with Therese Johaug finishing fourth. Aino-Kaisa Saarinen of Finland was fifth. Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland, a three-time overall World Cup winner who has been struggling with a foot injury, was with the leading group of seven skiers at the halfway mark but slipped and fell just as she was about to enter her station for the ski change and lost several seconds. She exited the ski change 7.4 seconds behind Kalla, and never came any closer during the freestyle. Entering the last lap, she was nearly 19 seconds behind and she finished sixth, 58.1 seconds back. The next womens event is the individual freestyle sprint on Tuesday, when Bjoergen is again among the favorites. The mens 30K skiathlon is Sunday. Adidas Trainer Basso Costo . 19; Second leg Feb. 26)Young Boys (Switzerland) vs. Everton (England)Torino (Italy) vs. Athletic Bilbao (Spain)Sevilla (Spain) vs.Wide receiver Sidney Rice and defensive end Red Bryant were released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, giving the Super Bowl champions additional salary cap space as free agency approaches. Seattle made the expected roster moves official eight days before teams can start speaking with potential free agents. Bryant had spent his entire career with the Seahawks after being a fourth-round draft pick in 2008, while Rice signed as a free agent before the 2011 season. According to the leagues transaction report, Rice was released with a "failed physical" designation. Both were due hefty salaries in 2014 that didnt necessarily match the production they had shown on the field. Rice had struggled with injuries with the Seahawks and was lost for the 2013 season after Week 8 with a knee injury. Bryant was a unique player as a 300-pound defensive end for the Seahawks, but his playing time had diminished. Seattle should save more than $12 million in salary cap space with the moves. Rice was due $8.5 million in base salary for 2014 and Bryant $4.5 million. "We want to thank both Red and Sidney for their effort, commitment and contribution to the Seattle Seahawks over the last few years," Seattle general manager John Schneider said in a statement. "These are extremely tough decisions, but we wanted to give them a head start on free agency. We wish them well in the future." Both moves were expected to happen and are likely the first in a sseries that will change the makeup of the Super Bowl champions.dddddddddddd Bryant was one of just four players left from before the arrival of Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll. He was given a new contract during the 2012 off-season, but the emergence of Michael Bennett -- one of Seattles top free agent priorities -- appeared to make Bryant expendable. The only players still remaining from the pre-Carroll era are centre Max Unger, defensive tackle Brandon Mebane and punter Jon Ryan. Bryant was also a captain and vocal leader of Seattles league-best defence. He could be an attractive option in free agency for a team seeking a defensive end that can hold the edge in defending the run in a 3-4 defence. Rice had not matched the production that came with his big contract, mostly because of injuries. Rice played in 33 games with 31 starts with 97 receptions for 1,463 yards and 12 touchdowns. But his 2011 season was cut short by a concussion and he was unable to finish the 2013 season after suffering an ACL tear in his knee and being placed on injured reserve. Rice led Seattle in receptions (50) and yards receiving (748) during the 2012 season, one of just two seasons in his career that hes played in all 16 regular-season games. Rice tweeted a goodbye to Seattle fans shortly after his release became official: "The amount of love I have for the .12thman and the (at)Seahawks organization! Thanks for a wonderful experience!" MINNEAPOLIS - Kevin Martins 37-point effort against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night just got even more impressive.Martin played the final three and a half quarters of that game with a fractured wrist on his shooting hand, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced Friday hours before hosting San Antonio. He is out indefinitely.Martin injured his right wrist with 6:48 to play in the first quarter when he was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer. From that point on, Martin went on to score 34 points and make 6 of 9 3s in the 115-99 victory that snapped a five-game losing streak.Weve just got to come out and play with the guys we have, coach Flip Saunders said before the Wolves hosted the Spurs. It gives guys opportunities and weve just got to try to keep on improving individually and weve got to try to keep on improving as a team.Martin was actually a game-time decision that night after needing IV fluids while battling an illness for most of the day. He made no mention of the injury in his postgame remarks to the media.I realize the situation and after the guys worked so hard after the horrible road trip we had, Martin said after the game. Coach challenged us in practice. There was never a thought to not playing. You have to get out there with your teammates and show them that youre dedicated to being here. Its yet another crushing blow for a seemingly snake-bitten franchise that has not made the playoffs in 10 years and is rebuilding after trading All-Star Kevin Love this summer. The Wolves are already playing without starting point guard Ricky Rubio, who is out indefinitely with a sprained left ankle, starting centre Nikola Pekovic, who will miss at least the next two games with a sprained right wrist and starting power forward Thaddeus Young, who is mourning the sudden passing of his mother. On a team starving for offence, Martin was the best thing the Wolves had going. He scored 34 in a defeat in Dallas that ended a six-game road trip and then got the Wolves off to a great start against the Knicks with 13 points in the first quarter.Martin is averaging 20.4 points and shooting 48.1 per cent on 3-pointers this season. The Wolves have not yet determined if Martin will need surgery to address the injury. Veteran Corey Brewer and youngster Shabazz Muhammad figure to get the bulk of the minutes in Martins place. The Wolves had just 10 healthy players for the game against the Spurs. Pekovic will be evaluated again early next week. If its deemed that he will be out at least another 10 days, Saunders said the Wolves could be granted a roster exception and add another player without having to move someone from their 15-player roster.___Follow Jon Krawczynski on Twitter: http://twitter.com/APKrawczynski Purple Nike Air Max For Women . Now Kurt Busch wants to give "the double" a try and he will have cars capable of winning both races. He said Tuesday he will attempt to make the Indianapolis 500 in a fifth entry for Andretti Autosport. Should he make the May 25 race, Busch would then fly to Charlotte Motor Speedway to fulfil his full-time job with Stewart-Haas Racing -- a team co-owned by Stewart -- in NASCARs longest event of the year. "Im a fan of motorsports, a student of motorsports, and I view this as a challenge for myself," Busch said in an interview with The Associated Press. "Memorial Day weekend, the central focus of all motorsports is Monaco, Indianapolis and Charlotte and this is a tremendous opportunity to be right in the middle of it." Only John Andretti, Stewart and Robby Gordon have attempted the "double," and no driver has tried since Gordon in 2004. "Welcome to the club!" Gordon posted on his Twitter account. Stewart, Buschs new co-owner at Stewart-Haas, is the only driver to complete the double. He did it in his second and final attempt, in 2001, when he finished sixth at Indy and third at Charlotte. An Indiana native who grew up dreaming of winning the Indianapolis 500, Stewart long ago abandoned that goal and passed on an offer last year from Roger Penske to drive one of his cars in the 2013 Indianapolis 500. But Stewart has given Busch his blessing. "Its a great opportunity for Kurt and I fully support him," Stewart said Tuesday. "Hell have a lot to learn in a short amount of time, but he has an overwhelming amount of driving talent on his side. He has a great car owner with Michael Andretti, whos not only an owner, but hes been a driver too. "Michael has so much to offer Kurt in terms of knowledge and firsthand experience. It really seems like a natural pairing." Buschs attempt comes at a much different time than when Gordon and Stewart last tried to run both races. Social media didnt exist a decade ago, and Busch plans to utilize every avenue possible to let fans follow along with his attempt. On Tuesday, he even launched a website -- www.kurtbuschdouble.com -- that is expected to chronicle his efforts. "I think this is something that is good for NASCAR, good for IndyCar, good for the fans to get behind and really feel like they are part of," Busch said. "There was no social media, or the means for fans to get an in-depth look at what goes into the double when the others tried it. We think weve got an opportunity to make people feel like they are part of the experience with me." Busch first flirted with the idea last May when he completed the Indy 500 rookie orientation program with Andretti. He didnt put a program together to run the 500, and said hes second-guessed that decision at times. "I took the conservative route and sometimes I kick myself because Carlos Munoz finished second as a rookie in that car last year," Busch said. "So now Im challenging myself to do something great in motorsports." Andretti will unveil the car and primary sponsor for Busch at a later date. "Im really excited to have Kurt come onboard for the Indy 500. He did a great job for us when he tested last year," Andretti said. "Hes obviously a natural talent and we feel he is going to take to the Indy car quickly and have a competitive month with us." Busch, an advocate for The Armed Forces Foundation who is dedicating his effort to the men and women in the U.S. military, will bring at least two personal ssponsors.dddddddddddd Cessna has signed on to help with his transportation between IndyCar and NASCAR, and Busch estimates it will require at least 20 hours of flight time shuttling him back and forth between both series. Hes also teamed with Basis, a wrist-based health tracker Busch is using to help with his training leading up to the double. Busch has also taken up martial arts and joked hes entered "a boot camp phase" of his personal training. "You can get your body ready, and do all the cardio needed and follow the nutritional guidelines," he said. "But the mental aspect of running 1,100 miles is like nothing you can prepare for. I think the martial arts can help with that." He said hes spoken to Stewart, as well as former Penske teammates Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr., and Juan Pablo Montoya, who left NASCAR to drive for Penske in IndyCar this season, about his venture. Castroneves, Hornish and Montoya are all former Indy 500 winners. "All of them have given me great support and told me, You can do this," Busch said. Indeed, three-time winner Castroneves welcomed Busch to the field: "Congrats on the #indy500, see u there!!" he tweeted. Busch will not participate in an IndyCar race before the Indy 500, but president of competition Derrick Walker said last month the series would try to accommodate him with track time much the same way it has Montoya, who has received additional testing time in his preparation for the season. "To add a driver with the resume of Kurt Busch to the Indianapolis 500 field is a huge gain for IndyCar," Walker said. "We want to see the best 33 drivers put their skills to the test on the biggest stage in motorsports, regardless of which series they come from. To attempt the double is a tremendous challenge, and were looking forward to watching Kurt accomplish the feat." Buschs path to the Indy 500 will begin in earnest after the May 10 Sprint Cup race at Kansas. Hes expected to spend a week testing Andrettis Honda, and make at least 10 trips between Indy and Charlotte as he participates in NASCARs All-Star race and attempts to qualify for the 500, race in the 500 and the 600. He said hes worked out several scheduling issues with NASCAR and has permission from Charlotte Motor Speedway to helicopter onto the frontstretch of the track to speed up his arrival for the second race. Busch won the Coca-Cola 600 -- which is a full 100 miles longer than any other race on the NACAR schedule -- in 2010. "As a past Coca-Cola 600 champion, Kurt Busch knows what a test of endurance 600 miles can be. To race 1,100 is nearly impossible," said Charlotte Motor Speedway president Marcus Smith. "To even attempt this takes a lot of guts. Fans will appreciate this effort, and I know theyll be as excited as I will, watching the clock to see if he can make it to Charlotte in time for our green flag." Charlotte officials said theyll track Buschs journey from Indianapolis on their massive big screen video board in the infield of the speedway so fans can follow and anticipate his arrival. But if he wins the 500, Busch knows hell be late to Charlotte -- if he makes it all. However, NASCARs new Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format means all Busch has to do this year is win a race to earn a spot in the 16-driver Chase, and he can afford to miss the start of the 600 and not jeopardize his regular job. "As long as we attempt to qualify for every race, we are eligible for the Chase under the new rules," Busch said. "Its like you are in New York City, on Broadway, and you look up at all the bright lights -- they are clearly pointing to this being the right time to do this. The green light is on." NEW YORK - Sometimes a little bit of confidence goes a long way. Looking at the standings - where the Raptors sit atop the woeful Atlantic Division - wins in Dallas and Oklahoma City count just the same as less impressive victories over the 76ers and Jazz. Internally, those triumphs have meant everything to this young, impressionable Raptors team. Whether theyre facing a late-game deficit, protecting a lead, or staring down one of the leagues elite teams, the Raptors believe they can win. "It does give you confidence to know you went out and beat [some] of the best teams in the league on their home floor," Dwane Casey said before his team rallied back to defeat the division-rival Knicks, 95-83 at Madison Square Garden on Friday. "That should help us know that hey, you can do it." Having played 36 minutes of lackluster, uninspired basketball against an undermanned club that was nearly as lethargic, the Raptors looked like a team that believed, that knew they could flip on the switch when it mattered most. Trailing by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, Toronto held the Knicks to 5-of-19 shooting in the fourth, outscoring the home team 29-12 in the final frame. Once again, the Raptors showed supreme confidence in the face of adversity on the road. They found a way to win, a notable step for a franchise that has historically found creative ways to lose. "You definitely feel good once youre winning games," said DeMar DeRozan, who led the Raptors with 25 points, including eight in the pivotal fourth quarter. "You gain all the confidence game-in and game-out, especially playing all these teams, knowing we could beat them." "We understand were never out of the game until that last second runs out of the clock. It definitely helps, because last year we were in a ton of late-game situations we couldnt pull out. Wed kind of fold, get frustrated, let a big shot frustrate us. Now we dont let any of that frustrate us." The difference is noticeable. A year ago, the Raptors were 3-36 when trailing after three quarters. Two months into the season, they already have four comeback victories. Most impressively, Toronto is the NBAs third-best fourth-quarter team in terms of point differential. Outscoring opponents by 59 points in the final period, the Raptors rank behind Indiana and Miami, the cream of the crop in the Eastern Conference. “I think weve got some good closers," Kyle Lowry said after a 15-point, 11-assist performance, his 19th straight game with six or more dimes. "I think weve got guys who dont care about the moment, they just want to win games." Confidence has been the most crucial factor in the continued development of franchise centrepiece Jonas Valanciunas, who had a coming out party on the NBAs biggest stage Friday. Facing Tyson Chandler, one of the leagues toughest match-ups at his position, the Raptors sophomore registered a career-high 18 boards to go along with 16 points. Valanciunas was not fazed by the moment or his competition, he held his ground and played up to it as much or more than he has before. "JV just be all over the place," DeRozan said with a chuckle. "Sometimes weve just got to tell him to calm down. He just wants it that bad. Youve got to love having a guy like that on your team." Lowry has been as tough on the 21-year-old as anyone in the organization. Routinely reprimanding him after missed assignments or botched pick-and-rolls, even Lowry sees and applauds the growth of the Raptors prized second-year centre. "It just makes me proud because Im on him more than everybody but when he does well I congratulate him and I appreciate what he does," Lowry said of Valanciunas. "I just want to see him be the best player he can be." "Ill buy him dinner one day," the veteran point guard joked. For Valanciunas, it was a big night, whether he cares to admit it or not. The witty, albeit soft-spoken, seven footer refused to bite on questions regarding his individual performance after the game. "I was just playing my game, Im trying to help the team," he maintained. "Thats all I do every game." "Im not trying to show swagger or something. Im a simple guy and Im just trying to play hard." Like the sinking Atlantic Division itself, one of these teams was going to win this game and through three quarters, that seemed like a maddening thought. Both teams got off to a sluggish start, especially the Raptors, coming off a brief Christmas break earlier this week. Toronto shot 38 per cent from the field and committed 10 turnovers in the first half before tightening the screws in the third quarter and running away with the game in the fourth. "We were playing in mud in the first half," Casey said. "Our effort was there it was just one of those games where we couldnt get going and I think it was a little bit because of the break, coming back, trying to get things going. We turned it on in the second half and its good to be able to not play your best game and still come out with the win against a very powerful offensive team in New York." The Knicks are a sinking ship, desperately trying to stay afloat in the division for as long as injuries remain a viable excuse for their failures. Carmelo Anthony, the NBAs second-leading scorer, missed Fridays game with an ankle injury and will not travel to Toronto for the back end of a home-and-home set with the Raptors Saturday. In many ways, Fridays game was the epitome of what has become the leagues most ridiculed division. More often than not it was painful to watch. As the Knicks, last seasons division champions, were booed off their home court it became clear; these are two teams headed in opposite directions. One with more confidence than theyve had in some time, the other losing hope with each passing day. Michael Kors Outlet . Hamilton, the 2008 champion, started sixth on the grid. The British driver leapt to fourth on the opening lap before it was red-flagged, and suspended for an hour, following a crash involving 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari and Felipe Massa of Williams. No, not even after benching him twice already this season. The New York Jets coach still believes the first-round draft pick will end up rebounding in a major way. "Hes close to being that player that we want," Ryan said Wednesday. "I will say this: By the time the seasons over, I think he will be the best rookie corner and playing better than any rookie corner in this years draft. I dont think theres any doubt. We anticipate that. "He was the No. 1 cornerback selected, but thats how we feel about him. I think hes close. I really do." Milliner has started four games, but has also dealt with a hamstring injury that sidelined him three games. He was benched in the second half against New England in Week 2, and again in the second quarter last Sunday against Cincinnati. Ryan says Milliner will be back in the starting secondary against New Orleans on Sunday. "I think with Dee, when I went back and I watched that tape," Ryan said, "hes a lot closer than I think (hes) given credit for." The problem is, theres not a lot on film from games to sway people to agree with the coach. After all, Milliner was the first cornerback taken in the draft after a standout career during which he won two national championships at Alabama. Also at play is the fact that Milliner took Darrelle Revis spot in the secondary, starting opposite Antonio Cromartie. Revis was considered one of the premier players at his position, and Cromartie has assumed his role as the No. 1 cornerback. But Milliner was considered a starter from Day 1, despite the shoulder surgery that kept him out of the off-season training sessions and slowly getting up to speed during training camp. There were 28 players drafted as cornerbacks after him, including three in the first round: Oaklands D.J. Hayden, Atlantas Desmond Trufant and Minnesotas Xavier Rhodes. Trufant has started all seven of the Falcons games, while Hayden and Rhodes have started one each. "Oh, man, you feel bad," Milliner said of having to stand on the sideline and watch during games. "But, you know, its for the better. I was out there making physical mistakes and they put other people out there, they put (Darrin) Walls in and he did a good job of finishing the game." Against Cincinnati, Milliner gave up four receptiions for 108 yards in just under a half.dddddddddddd The previous week against the Patriots, he allowed six catches for 52 yards. "I just see him getting better, I do," Ryan said. "And I know how bad he wants it. All facets, schematically, hes not making the mental errors, so I think thats a big thing. And just his technique, I see his technique coming. Now he just needs to have some success tied along with it, and I think thats whats missing, get an interception or two and I think hes going to be good." Ryan also joked that this Sunday would be a good time for Milliner to have that kind of game. The Jets are taking on the high-powered Saints offence, with Drew Brees likely licking his chops at going after a rookie cornerback. In fact, Milliner says, he expects to get picked on. "Ive put on film that plays get over me here and there," he said. "He watches film. Hes one of the great quarterbacks in todays game. Hes going to be out there and, of course, Im the new kid out there. So, hes going to look to attack me on things." Ryan has been careful with weighing Milliners confidence, trying not to ruin it with poor performances. Thats why he has pulled him twice this season. "There are two positions I think that are critical with confidence — you want your guy confident (and) you dont want the confidence ever broken — I think thats cornerback and quarterback," Ryan said. "I think thats just one of those things where theres a couple of ways of looking at it, but my thing is I want him champing at the bit to get back out there and then you purposely keep him back there." Ryan said his father Buddy did that in Chicago with a young Mike Singletary, who overcame early struggles to become a Hall of Fame linebacker. "Im hoping it works out half as good as that one did," Ryan said, later adding, "Its just one of those things and eventually he gets the thing where you never worry about benching him ever again." NOTES: G Willie Colon (calf), TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion), WR Stephen Hill (foot), WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) and WR Jeremy Kerley (illness) did not practice. Holmes, who has missed four straight games, said hes "making good progress," but isnt sure if hell play. ... CLEVELAND -- More than one month after firing Mike Brown, the Cavaliers still havent found his replacement. However, they could be close. The team had second interviews with Los Angeles Clippers associate head coach Alvin Gentry and assistant Tyronn Lue on Friday, meetings that were expected to include Cavs owner Dan Gilbert. Gentry and Lue are among at least a dozen candidates contacted by the club since Brown was fired on May 12 following a 33-49 season, ending his second stint with the club. While Gentry and Lue appear to be the co-favourites to become Clevelands coach in three years, neither of them has been offered the job and the Cavs search will extend into next week. Cleveland has scheduled an interview with former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach David Blatt, who announced Thursday he was resigning from his job with the European champion to take a coaching job in the NBA. Blatt did not specify which team he was joining, but said he has not been offered the Cavs position. Blatt also has been approached by Golden State to be an assistant under new coach Steve Kerr. The 55-year-old Blatt was first contacted by the Cavs last week, but he has known new Cleveland general manager David Griffin for several years. Blatt is considered an offensive mastermind, and hes been on the radar of several NBA teams. He acknowledged his interest in returning to the U.S. -- he was born in Massachusetts and played at Princeton -- while leading Russia to a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Blatt said he was leaving Maccabi to "follow my dream." He led the club to a stunning upset over Real Madrid in the European Championships, a victory that touched off massive celebrations in Israel. If the Cavs decide to hire him, Cleveland fans would probably not have the same reaction because Blatt is unknown outside hoops circles and hed be an unconventional choice. Earlier this week, the team met with Charlotte assistant Mark Price, a four-time All-Star point guard in Cleveland who remains one of the most beloved players in franchise history. Former Memphis coach Lionel Hollins, Bulls assistant Adrian Griffin, former Chicago coach Vinny Del Negro also had interviews with the club, but its not known if any of them will get a second look. Gilbert and Griffin understand the importance of landing the right coach as the Cavaliers enter a significant summer. The club owns the No. 1 overall pick in this months draft and the Cavs are in the process of evaluating the top college prospects. Kansas centre Joel Embiid visited Cleveland earlier this week and the Cavs gave him a thorough medical exam and worked out the 7-footer. Jayhawks forward Andrew Wiggins and Duke forward Jabari Parker are scheduled to meet with the Cavs next week. Embiid has been touted as a franchise-changing player, but there are medical concerns about the 18-year-old, who only started playing basketball a few years ago in his native Cameroon. He missed the NCAA tournament last season with a stress fracture in his lower back, and the Cavs wanted to make sure hes healthy before they considered taking him. The Cavs are not confirming player visits until the day they take place. And while they juggle the coaching search and various options with the top pick, including a trade, the Cavs must also decide whether to offer All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving a maximum, five-year contract extension next month. Irving has given mixed signals about his commitment to Cleveland, and it certainly hasnt helped that the Cavs have been in disarray since he arrived. The team was expected to get to the playoffs last season under Brown, who was fired for the first time four years ago by Gilbert. Maybe the next coach can not only inspire Irving, but get the Cavs back on track. First, though, theyve got to find him. Nike Air Max 2015 Sverige . Greg McKegg and Jerry DAmigo had goals for the Marlies (24-12-4), who have won six of their past eight games. Dustin Tokarski stopped 20 shots for the Bulldogs (19-17-4). Fridays game got off to a frantic start, with Hamiltons Christian Thomas enjoying two quality scoring chances before Torontos Brad Staubitz drove wide on Jarrod Tinordi and slipped a shot just wide of Tokarskis far post. The clearest opportunity fell to Sven Andrighetto five minutes into the first period, as he split the Toronto defence and broke in alone on MacIntyre. The winger moved to his backhand and was stopped by a sliding MacIntyre, but drew a penalty in the process. The goaltenders judgement served him well with four minutes to play in the period, as he rushed out of his crease to snuff out a developing break. Joonas Nattinen emerged from the penalty box and collected a loose puck behind Torontos defenders, but MacIntyre successfully challenged him just inside his blue-line. The Bulldogs were left to rue their missed opportunities when McKegg opened the scoring for Toronto on the power play at 18:20 of the period. McKeggg took an initial shot from the blue-line and followed the ensuing scrum into the slot with Martin St.ddddddddddddPierre serving a tripping penalty. Wade MacLeod eventually found him with a cross-ice pass that he quickly deposited past Tokarski. The fast-paced first period gave way to a more defensive second, as the Marlies comfortably protected their lead. Toronto scored a short-handed insurance goal as DAmigo spearheaded a solo rush at 15:45 of the period. The Marlies winger was tripped as he broke through the slot, but kept enough control to slide the puck past Tokarski, who was diving to his far post. Hamilton outshot Toronto 24-18 through forty minutes, but rarely tested MacIntyre in the subdued second period. The Bulldogs nearly broke MacIntyres shutout bid eight minutes into the third period, as Mike Blunden and Gabriel Dumont whacked at a loose puck in the low slot. But the goaltender reacted well to deny the attempts through a screen and smother the puck. Hamilton was 0-for-7 on the power play, while Toronto converted on one of five power-play opportunities. Notes: Attendance at Copps Coliseum was announced as 9,983 … Brandon Kozun played his first game for the Marlies since being traded to Toronto by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. PHOENIX - Ryan Braun ignored loud boos in his home spring debut, producing a single and a walk as a Milwaukee Brewers split squad beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 Saturday. Brauns first at-bat at Maryvale Baseball Park was met with a vocal and extended chorus of boos, especially from the third-base side loaded with a large contingent of Dodgers fans. Braun walked and scored on a single by Carlos Gomez. In the third, Brewers fans on the first-base side tried to drown out the boos with a louder round of cheers before his infield single. The former NL MVP was suspended for the final 65 games of the season last year for his role in the Biogenesis drug scandal. Braun homered Thursday in his first at-bat of exhibition play at Oaklands park. Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse threw two perfect innings. Los Angeles starter Dan Haren allowed a run in two innings. The All-Pro left tackle agreed to a five-year contract with the Eagles on Wednesday. Peters was signed for 2014, and his new deal adds four years through 2018. Overall, the contract is worth about $50 million. "They didnt want to risk losing me and I didnt want to go anywhere, and I let them know that," Peters said. "I want to retire here. I love this organization. I love Philly." The feeling is mutual. "There arent many people cut from the same cloth as Jason Peters," coach Chip Kelly said. "To be able to bounce back from two Achilles injuries and return to an All-Pro level speaks not only to his incredible athleticism, but proves just how hard he works at his game. Having him at left tackle provides a lot of comfort to our quarterback and to our entire offence. Hes a guy that many players look up to in our locker room." The 32-year-old Peters is a six-time Pro Bowl pick and two-time All-Pro. Peters missed the entire 2012 season after twice rupturing an Achilles tendon, but he returned to anchor an offensive line that helped the Eagles lead the NFL in rushing. All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy ran for a franchise-best 1,607 yards, and Pro Bowl quarterback Nick Foles had a breakout year behind Peters and Co. "I told yall I was at 100 per cent coming into the season," Peters said.dddddddddddd "I felt very good. They obviously think (Im worth it) or they wouldnt have given me the contract. Im definitely going to live up to it." The Eagles appear set on their offensive line. Lane Johnson, a first-round pick last year, played well as a rookie at right tackle. Left guard Evan Mathis was an All-Pro, centre Jason Kelce is one of the top centres in the league, and right guard Todd Herremans is signed through 2016. Peters is the cornerstone. "Jason is everything you look for in a left tackle," general manager Howie Roseman said. "The unique blend of size, speed and athleticism that Jason possesses is something that everyone wants in an offensive lineman. However, what really makes him unique is his desire to improve day in and day out despite the fact that hes played at an elite level for so many years. We are truly rewarding Jasons excellence." Peters was an undrafted free agent signed by Buffalo and converted from tight end. He played his first five seasons with the Bills before coming to Philadelphia in a trade in 2009 and establishing himself as one of the premier left tackles in the NFL. Now hes already being talked about as a Hall of Fame candidate with several years left in his career. "I got a $5,000 signing bonus in Buffalo," Peters said. "I never thought this would happen. I believed in myself. This is a dream come true." Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NHL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' ' |

Oh, how ever. Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. returned to the lineup for the first time since being injured on Oct. 3, passing for 399 yards and four touchdowns to help the fifth-ranked Eagles defeat No. 11 Montana, 36-26, before 11,339 in a key Big Sky Conference game on Saturday. Adams broke two metatarsal bones in his right foot and missed four straight games. He returned to complete 24-of-36 pass attempts. Vernon was gutsy, Eastern coach Beau Baldwin said. He definitely wasnt 100 percent in terms of being able to move and get out of things like he usually can, but he was still was able to buy time, see things, throw from the pocket and make a lot of plays. I guarantee his foot is hurting him, but it was a very impressive performance by Vernon. LONDON - When Arsenal cannot beat the English Premier Leagues leading teams, the prospects of an imminent title triumph seem slim.Travelling to defending champion Manchester City on Sunday, the focus is just on returning to the top four for the side which was last champion in 2004.Its three years since Arsenals last league victory over a City side that used to play an insignificant part in the title race until the 2008 Abu Dhabi takeover provided the financial muscle to strip the London club of its prime playing assets. There was humiliation on the last visit to Etihad Stadium last season, with City inflicting a 6-3 rout. Although Arsenal did beat City in August, that came in the largely inconsequential curtainraiser to the English season before they drew their league encounter at Emirates Stadium. We need to play with more spirit, with more aggression, and be very focused, City midfielder Santi Cazorla said. If not, these teams will kill you. We need to be perfect if we want to win.Perfection is harder with such a lengthy injury list at Arsenal, which is only a point off fourth-place Manchester United.Captain Mikel Arteta (ankle) and Mathieu Debuchy (right shoulder) have both undergone surgery and are expected to be sidelined for around three months, manager Arsene Wenger announced on Thursday. Its very unfortunate for Mathieu, its unbelievable because hes had two surgeries in the same season, Wenger said of the defender, who underwent ankle ligament surgery in Septemvber, a month into his Arsenal career.City hosts Arsenal after losing ground on leader Chelsea by drawing at Everton last weekend, with two points separating the front-runners. Chelsea could be five points ahead by the time Citys game kicks off if Jose Mourinhos side wins at Swansea on Saturday. Here are a look at the other talking points this weekend in the Premier League:___STRIKER DILEMMA: Just when Uniteds season seemed back on track — after 10 games without defeat in the league — the team lost to Southampton last weekend. It also raised questions about the future of Radamel Falcao. The Colombian was out of the squad completely on Sunday, and missing Saturdays trip to Queens Park Rangers would make it less likely the striker will extend his stay at United beyond June when his loan from Monaco expires.LIVERPOOLS QUEST: Unbeaten in seven games in all competitions, Liverpool travels on Saturday to an Aston Villa side three points above the drop zone, and scorer of a league-low 11 goals. One of those goals gave Villa a 1-0 win at Anfield in September. They dont concede many, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers pointed out on Thursday. It will be a difficult game as it was earlier in the season when we conceded from a sloppy corner and then werent able to get the breakthrough.Liverpool is eighth in the standings, and midfielder Adam Lallana has provided a boost by returning to training ahead of schedule after a thigh injury on New Years Day. He could be fit for Tuesdays League Cup semifinal first-leg against Chelsea.FIGHTING THE DROP: Of the three teams in the relegation zone, QPRs match is the toughest — at home to United. Leicester hosts Stoke, and Hull travels to West Ham. Also on Saturday, Burnley, which is only a point above the relegation zone, takes on Crystal Palace.Sunderland, which is ahead of Burnley on goal difference, expects to have Jermain Defoe in the team to face Tottenham. The Black Cats are waiting for Jozy Altidores proposed swap-move to FC Toronto to be processed. Donna Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 Scarpe Light Blu . The second-seeded Sharks bounced back from Saturdays 3-1 loss to win this Western Conference quarterfinal series 4-2. Antti Niemi made 26 saves for the Sharks, who are trying to embark on another deep playoff run after making it to the conference finals a year ago. Adidas Donne Superstar 2 Trainers Militare Blu/Bianche . - As further proof the NFL never is far from the headlines, owners could make plenty of news this week at their spring meetings. http://www.max90scontate.com/scarpe-adidas-superstar-scontate/superstar-bianche.html . Henderson finished with 13 points, and Kemba Walkers 16 points included four consecutive free throws during a late fourth-quarter run for the Bobcats, who have won four of five and sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Nike Air Max 90 - Rosse/Bianche/Argento - Donne . The Skeeters said Thursday that the 34-year-old McGrady will be on a limited pitch count. He last pitched in an exhibition game last month, allowing three hits in an inning against Alvin Community College. Uomo Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 Nere/Grigie/Rosse Scarpe . Komissarova writes on Instagram, "I dont feel my body below my navel. But I am strong and I know that Ill be able to stand on my legs again some day.TSN Hockey Insiders Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger gathered for the latest installment of Insider Trading and the topics discussed were the current trade market, the possibility of Martin Brodeur wiaving his no-trade clause trade and sanctions for future goalie fights. There are roughly four months until TradeCentre but a lot of teams already have instant needs that they want to fill sooner rather than later. Whats the talk? Dreger: Thats primarily because of injuries around the NHL and interest will often spark this type of dialogue between general managers. At the moment, the buyers appear to outnumber the sellers but there are a number of teams who are looking to fill specific needs. The Toronto Maple Leafs are still in the market for a centre. The Edmonton Oilers need a lot of things, among them at the top of the list are defencemen and goaltending. The Winnipeg Jets would like to add a power forward but theyd also look at doing something defensively. The Anaheim Ducks are looking to add a puck-moving defenceman and the Carolina Hurricanes likewise. The Florida Panthers, despite the talk that GM Dale Tallon is looking to do a full renovation or rebuild which he is not looking to do, would like to add some pieces. LeBrun: Martin Brodeur, the games all-time leader in wins, raised some eyebrows on Tuesday after an interview with the Newark Star-Ledger. He said he would possibly consider waiving his no-trade clause if the Devils were out of the playoffs and GM Lou Lamoriello asked him about a trade. I spoke to Brodeur on Tuesday evening and he said "Im not even thinking about a trade and it would have to be Lamoriello coming to me and asking about it. I would nevver go to him and ask for a trade at the end of the season.ddddddddddddquot; However, Brodeur would not completely rule out waiving his no-trade clause. Fighting is down 12 per cent, but fighting talk is up again after Ray Emerys actions on Friday night. The GMs meet on Tuesday and with the agenda is not yet set, is it fair to say they will be talking about that? LeBrun: Yes, theres a very good chance that will be part of the discussion on Tuesday. Its only a one-day meeting so they will not have a rule recommendation on fighting but they are going to start the discussion again because of whats transpired this season, most recently the brawl in Philadelphia last Friday. I think youll see a lot of exchange of ideas; should they ban goalie fights? Should there be an automatic suspension for a goalie going across the ice for a fight? Should the game misconduct threshold be changed within a game, instead of three fighting majors, possibly lower it to two. I think youre going to hear all sorts of ideas but its more to plant the seed for March, when the three-day GM meetings take place. Why didnt referee Francois St-Laurent step in and intervene during the Emery fight? Dreger: There was a lot of internal discussion over why he didnt step in when there was opportunity for him to and he also very clearly indicated to the Capitals players to stay back. Its easy to analyze after the fact but he couldnt rely on the linesmen, who were tied up already because of the multiple fights taking place on the ice already. What I was told was St-Laurent was sitting back saying "Im afraid the benches are going to clear if I dont manage this situation by watching the bigger picture." SAO PAULO, Brazil -- The solid performance by the Williams team in early testing has left Felipe Massa upbeat about the new Formula One season. The Brazilian driver had the second-best time in last months tests at Jerez and said the "good start" could play to his advantage when the season gets underway in Australia in March. "It always helps to start well, especially now that we have a completely different car, which requires a completely different driving style," Massa said at a news conference on Tuesday. Testing is seen as crucial this year as significant rule changes have been implemented, including a switch to a turbo engine and more sophisticated energy recovery systems. Debuting with Williams after eight years with Ferrari, Massa was clearly looking forward to making a fresh start. "Im really motivated, this is a special moment for me," he said. "I changed to a team that welcomed me with open arms. I needed this change and I think the team needed too." Massa remained cautious, however, saying that the cars full potential wont be known until the first race starts. Car designs needed significant aerodynamic alterations compared to last year, with reliability and fuel consumption likely to play a big part in races. "I think theres a lot to learn with the car and a lot has to be done to make the car improve," Massa said. "Its hard to say right now how good we will be. Usually, in the first races it will be difficult just to finish the race. But it was a good start, I was happy." He said Mercedes also looked to be in a strong position after the tests, but that Red Bull has a lot of work to do to get its car ready after a series of mechanical difficulties. McLarens Kevin Magnussen had the best time overall after the four days of testing in Jerez, Spain. There will be two more test sessions ahead of the March 16 opener in Australia. The next testing period runs from Feb. 19-22 in Bahrain. Massa said he went to France to visit former Ferrari teammate and seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, who is recovering from a serious head injury after a skiing accident in the French resort of Meribel on Dec. 29. "I stayed a long time by his side," said Massa, without providing many details on his condition. "It was good to be there. It looked like he was just sleeping, like anyone of us sleeps. Im really hopeful that everything will be OK and that he will wake up and recover fully." Massa said he is getting daily updates on the condition of his "great friend." Nike Air Max 90 Dam Vita . SEATTLE -- Utility player Willie Bloomquist officially signed a $5.8 million, two-year contract with the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, bringing him back to the team he started his major league career with. The deal was agreed to earlier this week and became official after Bloomquist passed a physical. Bloomquist said a combination of the offer Seattle made and a chance to return to the Pacific Northwest made the decision simple. Bloomquist will earn $2.8 million in 2014 and $3 million in 2015. "A lot of teams had interest and I had couple of offers on the table and was looking to better my position. When I heard Seattle had interest I was excited," Bloomquist said. Bloomquist spent the past three seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, appearing in 225 games and hitting .289 with 36 doubles and 63 RBIs over that time. Last season with Arizona, he appeared in 48 games and had 139 at-bats. TThe 36-year-old Bloomquist spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Mariners.dddddddddddd. His high point came in 2006 when Bloomquist appeared in 102 games for Seattle. He spent the 2009-10 seasons with Kansas City and Cincinnati before joining the Diamondbacks. Bloomquist guessed that Felix Hernandez was the only Seattle player still remaining from his first stint with the club. He said getting a two-year deal was important. "It gives me security, which goes without saying, but it allows me to know that its not going to be a flash in the pan, here one year, gone the next," Bloomquist said. He said that based on his conversations with Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik that hes expecting big moves this off-season from the Mariners. "In talking with Jack, he has some things up his sleeve that are going to make us a better team," Bloomquist said. WE MISS ARTIE TOPS QUEENS PLATE FIELD Ken and Sarah Ramseys We Miss Artie, winner of the Plate Trial on June 15, has been installed as the 8-5 morning line choice in a field of 15 for the $1 million Queens Plate, Canadas most famous horse race, Sunday at Woodbine. The 155th edition of the Plate for Canadian-foaled three-year-olds, the oldest continuously run stakes race in North America, will be televised live on TSN in HD (High Definition) in a special presentation from 4:30 – 6:00 pm ET. Post time is 5:38 pm. The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Right Honourable David C. Onley, will be the Royal Guest of Honour. All starters carry 126 pounds, except the lone filly Lexie Lou, who will tote 121 pounds for the mile and one-quarter classic over Woodbines Polytrack. The winner will receive $600,000. At the Queens Plate breakfast on Thursday morning, the selection order for post positions was drawn first via the traditional pill-pull, followed by the choosing of post positions by the connections for each horse, a system which has been in place for the Plate since 1998. We Miss Artie (PP6, 8-5), trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Javier Castellano, proved a comfortable winner of the Trial by three-quarters of a length over Majestic Sunset, his first outing at Woodbine and his first start since a 10th place finish, just eight and one-quarter lengths behind California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 3. Hell try to become the 26th Plate Trial winner since 1944 to win the Plate, the last being Big Red Mike in 2010. "I think my horse ran really well (in the Trial)," said owner Ken Ramsey, after choosing post six with the second selection. "(Jockey Javier) Castellano said he was saving himself for the Queens Plate. Hes doing exceptionally well (at Saratoga)." And Eighty Nine Red was the longest price of the bunch, sent postward a 16-1 outsider. No problem. Ridden by Jesse Campbell for trainer Mike DePaulo, Eighty Nine Red, tucked along the rail, stalked the pace of favoured Flashy Margaritta, then came out turning for home and prevailed in a stretch drive, taking the six furlong event for Ontario-bred three-year-olds by one length in 1:10.28. Flashy Margaritta, who had cranked out reasonable fractions of :22.97 and :45.67, held on for place, while Spadina Road closed for third. Owned by John Russell and George Schramm, the son of Bold Executive-Timeless Silver had opened his 2014 campaign in style, easily winning a five furlong allowance contest. But after a third place finish to Speightsong in the seven furlong Queenston, then a seventh place finish to Flashy Margaritta in the turf, six furlong Bold Ruckus, Eighty Nine Red returned to the Polytrack and prevailed. "I was a little worried going into the (far) turn. It was pretty tight. (Jockey) Patrick (Husbands, aboard Flashy Margaritta) was doing his job, doing what I would have done," said Campbell. "I loved the way this horse responded today. I had high hopes for this horse all along. He put it all together today. He really ran a good race." Eighty Nine Red had been kept eligible for the Queens Plate but his connections decided to shorten him up. Added DePaulo, "Jesse did a great job. The horse ran on and we got it done. Being by Bold Executive, there havent been too many who have run that far (the Queens Plate distance of a mile and one-quarter). Hopefully hell make a real good sprinter for us." Eighty Nine Red paid $34.90, $9.90 and $3.30, combining with Flashy Margaritta ($3.50, $2.20) for a $119.80 (1-2) exactor. A 1-2-5 (Spadina Road, $2.70) triactor was worth $287.40. STACKED DECK ACES THE CHARLIE BARLEY Bruce Lunsfords homebred Stacked Deck, with Chantal Sutherland-Kruse, made his seasonal debut a winning one, hanging on to defeat Speightsland in the co-featured $100,000 Charlie Barley Stakes, Saturday at Woodbine. The one mile tilt on the lawn for three-year-olds drew an excellent field of nine, with Speightsong, the Queenston Stakes winner and multiple stakes winner Jose Sea View vying for favouritism. Dismissed at 14-1, Stacked Deck, trained by Barb Minshall, stalked the pacesetting Tuscan Getaway until the turn into the long E.P. Taylor Turf Course stretch. The now gelded son of First Samurai-Bel Air Beauty took over in mid-stretch, opened a length, then was all out to hold off another longshot, 16-1 Speightland, for the nose victory in 1:33.45. Florida Won was a close third, a length behind. Tuscan Getaway had set all the fractions over a lightning fast turf course, :22.99, :45.42, and 1:09.10, while being pursued by Stacked Deck, before giving way."Thankfully my horse had something left over," said Sutherland-Kruse. "The plan wasnt really to be that close. We were hoping for a stalking trip. We broke well. I didnt think he had much left turning for home, but he kind of foolS you." Added owner Bruce Lunsford, who also raced the sire and the dam, "Barbara did a tremendous job bringing this horse back. To win this race off the bench after we couldnt get an allowance race to go, we think weve got big things ahead of us with this horse." "Hes a great horse," said Minshall. "Hes a smart horse, so clever." Stacked Deck had three starts last year, two on the grass, but he broke his maiden in his final outing over Woodbines Polytrack. The Norris Trophy-winning defenceman is a restricted free agent coming off a two-year bridge deal worth $5.75 million and is looking at a sizable raise in the neighbourhood of the NHLs elite defenders.(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays open up their game series against the surprising Baltimore Orioles this afternoon at the Rogers Centre. J.A. Happ takes the hill for the Jays, while the Os counter with Joe Saunders. Happ makes his 10th appearance since a trade sent him from the National League to the American. The 29-year-old Illinois native was 7-9 with the Houston Astros across 18 starts before heading to Toronto as part of a 10-player deal on July 20. He pitched in relief four times with the Blue Jays and has since made five straight starts, winning three of four decisions and allowing a single run in two of the outings. He was an 8-5 winner over the Yankees in New York on Aug. 29 after surrendering four runs on four hits in five innings with five strikeouts. Happs lone career meeting with Baltimore came on June 20, 2009 while he was with Philadelphia. He allowed 10 hits and two runs in six innings while getting a no-decision in the Phillies 6-5 loss. On Sunday in Toronto, Ben Francisco hit his first home run as a Ray and drove in two as Tampa Bay took a 9-4 win over the Blue Jays to split a four-game series. Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run home run and drove in three for the Blue Jays, who had won three straight prior to dropping the last two. Ricky Romero (8-13) dropped his 12th straight decision as he got tagged for seven runs on eight hits in just one-plus inning of work. For Baltimore, lefty Joe Saunders makes his second start with his playoff- chasing new team Monday when the Baltimore Orioles visit Rogers Centre to open a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles have been one of baseballs most surprising teams in 2012, getting to 15 games over .500 and winning two of three over the weekend to climb within two games of the New York Yankees in the American Leagues East Division. Baltimore is holding the second of the ALs two wild card berths with a 1 1/2- game lead on the Tampa Bay Rays in an effort to end a playoff drought that stretches back to 1997.dddddddddddd The Orioles, who lost 93 games last season, have also not finished at .500 since 1997. Saunders, a first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2002, had spent the last two-plus seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks before he was dealt for reliever Matt Lindstrom on Aug. 26. A 12-game winner with Arizona last season, Saunders was 6-10 in 21 starts before the trade. He was hit hard in his Orioles debut on Aug. 29, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in 5 1/3 innings of an 8-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox. In seven career meetings with the Blue Jays, hes 2-4 with a 3.83 earned run average in 47 innings. In New York, Mark Reynolds homered twice for the second time in the series, including a go-ahead three-run shot in a four-run sixth inning, and the Orioles downed the New York Yankees, 8-3, in the rubber match of a three-game set. Chris Tillman came in a winner in six of his past eight starts, but left the game after three innings due to right elbow stiffness. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks. Randy Wolf (1-0) replaced Tillman and got the win in his Orioles debut. He spun 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball, scattering three hits while walking one for Baltimore, which has won 19 of its last 27 games. The Orioles won all three road series against the Yankees for the first time since 1976. "Hopefully its a sign were becoming a little better because theyve been the measuring stick for a long time," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. The Orioles won seven of the first 11 games with the Blue Jays in 2012, including a sweep of a two-game set in Baltimore on Aug. 24-25. Toronto won the 2011 season series, 12 games to six. MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Grizzlies ratcheted up their defence to avoid a back-to-back sweep by the two best teams in the Eastern Conference. And, in the meantime, Memphis kept its spot in the Western Conference playoff race. Mike Conley scored 21 points, Zach Randolph added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and the Grizzlies held the Indiana Pacers to their lowest output of the season in an 82-71 victory on Saturday night. Several Grizzlies players said it may have been their most complete game of the season. The victory came after Memphis lost 91-86 at Miami on Friday night. "It started from the defensive intensity, and it was consistent," Conley said. "On offence, we moved the ball well. We were efficient with it, but defensively, we really locked down and communicated." Mike Miller added 13 points as Memphis moved a game ahead of Phoenix for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Marc Gasol, returning after spraining his ankle Friday night, had 10 points and nine rebounds. Lance Stephenson led the Pacers with 15 points and eight rebounds, while David West added 10 points, but was 5 of 15 from the field. Paul George, the Pacers leading scorer at 22.1 points per game, was held to eight points, missing eight of his 10 shots, and Indiana shot 37 per cent for the game. "We couldnt score at all," said Pacers centre Roy Hibbert, who was in foul trouble and ended the night with four points and no rebounds. "Thats the basic thing. I think we had a lot of contested 2s. Guys were trying, and they were playing hard, but for some reason, something was a little off." Indiana, which allows a league-low 35.4 points per game in the paint, surrendered 46 to Memphis, which also outrebounded Indiana 47-35. The Pacers only lead in the game came at 3-2. Gasol, who was treated for a Grade 1 left ankle sprain sustained in Fridays loss to the Heat, was a game-time decision. He was on medication and didnt warm up before the game. "I wanted to save every step I was going to take for the game," said Gasol, adding that the medication made it where he could barely feel his hands or face. "It definitely helped the purpose, and made it worth it because we won the game." Memphis, which built a double-digit lead in the first half, maintained the advantage through the third period as the Pacers seemed to be dragging. Through three periods, Indiana was still under 37 per cent, and George had been limited to only seven shots and six points. "Its the offensive end where we didnt play well," George said. "We didnt get into a rhythm. . If you hold a team to 82 points, you are playing pretty good defence." Memphis continued to maintain the double-digit lead, keeping the Pacers down 10 to 14 points through most of the fourth. "We were a little bit too indecisive and hesitant with the basketball," Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. "We had poor shooting nights from a number of guys." As was expected with two of the best defensive teams in the league, the first half was a low scoring affair despite Memphis shooting 46 per cent. The Pacers were at 32 per cent. That helped Memphis carry a 43-30 lead into the break as Miller connected on four of his first five shots in the second period, all of them from outside the arc, for all of his 13 points in the game. "If you take away Mike Millers 3s in the first half, this is a college score in terms of the game." West said. But the Grizzlies said the performance was important after a Miami game they thought they could have won. They also mentioned that it was an important confidence-builder for the stretch run. "We were in attack mode most of the night on both offence and defence," Memphis coach Dave Joerger said. "That is as complete of a win as we have had all season." NOTES: Pacers C Andrew Bynum remained inactive for the fourth game with swelling and soreness in his right knee. ...The previous low for points in a game for Indiana was 73 against Dallas on Feb. 12. ... Indianas three-game win streak against the Grizzlies was snapped. .Memphis has won nine straight at home. .The Pacers lost for only the second time this season when holding an opponent under 90 points. While the Dallas Stars are still young, their expectations have clearly changed. This group is no longer just hoping to get to the playoffs.Weve been together for a year now. The new players have fit in well, said Jamie Benn, their 25-year-old captain. Weve got a little bit more confidence as a group just making the playoffs, and I think we can bring that into this year. Not only did the Stars end the longest post-season drought in franchise history last season, they came oh so close to taking top-seeded Anaheim to Game 7 in the opening round. The Ducks had to score twice in the final 2:10 of regulation in Game 6 to force overtime, and won on the only shot there. We had a great year last year, and this year I think our expectations are a lot higher, said Tyler Seguin, the 22-year-old centre.General manager Jim Nill, a longtime assistant GM with Detroit, was hired in April 2013 after the Stars missed the playoffs for the fifth season in a row. He hired veteran coach Lindy Ruff, who had eight playoff appearances in his 15 seasons with Buffalo.Nills biggest initial deal was a seven-player trade with Boston to get former second overall pick Seguin, who in his debut Dallas season was the leading scorer with 84 points (37 goals, 47 assists). This off-season, Nill added 31-year-old former Ottawa teammates Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky.Last year, Jamie Benn moving back to the wing, Seguin coming in, how were they going to mesh together? And weve seen that theyre as dynamic a duo as there is, Nill said. A lot of questions have been answered. ... Weve got the excitement of adding Spezza, Hemsky and these guys. Its an exciting time, good for our team.Spezza (23 goals, 43 assists) is a centre acquired in a trade before free-agent right wing Hemsky (13 goals, 30 assists combined with Edmonton and Ottawa) signed a three-year contract. The two will likely be paired together, providing another scoring line behind the front line led by Seguin and Benn (34 goals, 45 assists). Here are some things to know about the 2014-15 Dallas Stars, who open the season at home Oct. 9 against Western Conference finalist Chicago:POTENT POWER PLAY: During the preseason, Ruff had a primary power-play unit that included Seguin and Benn, his top two scorers from last season, and newcomers Spezza and Hemsky. We were finding each other, Seguin said. It will be great to see what we can do once we learn each other a lot. Ruff said he expects those guys to read off each other, rather than having a specific plan where, Youve got to be here, and youve got to be there.BACKUP GOALIE: The Stars went into training camp with several options to be goalie Kari Lehtonens backup. They used four different players in that role last season. Anders Lindback, who started 67 games over the past four seasons with Nashville and Tampa Bay, exited training camp as the second goalie on the roster.WORKING CLASS: Benn said the team has developed an identity as a hard-working team. Weve got to be the hardest-working team out there, the captain said. Our skills going to help us out, but if we dont work hard, were not going to win many games.STILL UNSIGNED: When the Stars opened training camp in mid-September, unsigned restricted free agents Cody Eakin and Brenden Dillon were working out at home in Canada. Eakin, a centre, signed a two-year deal and joined the team this week. Defenceman Dillon remained unsigned and it was uncertain if his contract would be resolved before the season.PEVERLEYS PROGRESS: Nearly seven months after collapsing on the bench during a game because of an irregular heartbeat, forward Rich Peverley is doing off-ice workouts. But he still hasnt been cleared by doctors to get practice or play, and there is no specific timetable for when that could happen. He had surgery in mid-March to correct an abnormal heart rhythm, an issue that was diagnosed during training camp last year. Scarpe Nike Free 5.0 Uomo Saldi .Chase Lang had a goal and an assist for the Hitmen (19-11-3) while Beck Malenstyn, Layne Bensmiller and Adam Tambellini added a goal apiece.Dillon Dube scored the lone goal for the Rockets (26-5-3), who had their five-game win streak halted. Nike Roshe Run Floral Shop . Yes, Im writing to defend a player that is on pace for a 59-goal season, when the second-best goal-scorer in the NHL this season, Torontos Phil Kessel, is on pace for 43. Naturally, I didnt think that Ovechkin would be a player that needed much defending, but hes taken some hits lately. Im going to largely ignore his contributions on the power play because its not in any dispute that Ovechkin is great with the man advantage and can make a difference even when he doesnt score. http://www.rosherunflyknit.it/ .C. -- Greg Chalmers birdied two of the last four holes for a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke lead Saturday in the Chiquita Classic, the second of four events in the Web. Nike Roshe Run Scontate Uomo . -- The streaking Houston Texans are gaining confidence by the victory. Nike Roshe Run Floral Italia . Team doctors wont clear the 32-year-old winger until after next Thursdays game against the Phoenix Coyotes, so he hopes to be back with the club when they take on the Calgary Flames on Jan. ATLANTA -- The Washington Wizards moved up the Eastern Conference standings with their first win in Atlanta in six years. The Hawks are in a free-fall in the conference and must decide if a trade-deadline move is needed to stop their losing streak. John Wall scored 21 points and Washington recovered after almost blowing a 20-point lead to beat the reeling Hawks 114-97 on Wednesday night. "We needed it real bad," said Washingtons Trevor Ariza, who made an improbable 75-foot shot to end the third quarter. "Especially if were trying to make the playoffs these last 28 games. This one was big for us. Especially knowing that we havent won here in a while. I think that gives us a little bit of momentum." Paul Millsap had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Elton Brand, a fill-in starter at centre, had 20 points and 11 boards for the Hawks, who have lost seven straight. Trevor Ariza and Bradley Beal each had 19 points for the Wizards, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Washington ended an 11-game skid in Atlanta, winning for the first time since Jan. 11, 2008. The Wizards moved a half-game ahead of Atlanta in the battle for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. "We know its a two- or three-game spread from the third spot and its two or three games away from being in the eighth spot or out of the playoffs, so its definitely a tight race right now," Wall said. "Weve just got to find a way to get on a streak. We havent been on a good streak. I think its time for our team. We deserve a winning streak." The Hawks, who trailed by 20 points in the first half, made a third-quarter charge to twice cut the deficit to one point. The Wizards closed the period with 3-pointers by Martell Webster and Ariza. Arizas 3-pointer was the shot of the game -- a buzzer-beater from near the free throw line on the other end of the floor to end the period. "Once I let it go, it felt good," Ariza said. "I tried to do my best to go to the bench not get too excited because we had another quarter to go. Im just happy we got the win." Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said the 3s by Webster and Ariza turned the momentum. "I think its a very fine margin of error for every team in the NBA," Budenholzer said.dddddddddddd. "I think we had it down to two. Webster hit a tough 3-pointer from the corner. Then we let our guard down a little bit, and (Ariza) made a shot from the three-quarter court. It went from a two-point game to an eight-point game. That was a tough 15-second stretch." Washington had lost three straight and five of six before beating the Hawks. The Hawks had only nine players in uniform. Gustavo Ayon, who had been the fill-in starting centre, was held out after hurting his right shoulder in Tuesday nights loss at Indiana. Guard DeMarre Carroll missed his third straight game with a left hamstring strain. Brand, 34, who has averaged 16 minutes as a backup, played 35 minutes and set his season high for points, while matching his high for rebounds. Brand wouldnt blame the teams losing streak on a shortage of players. "It seems like were dealing with a myriad of injuries, but we definitely have enough players to win," Brand said. "We need to find a way to win and get this monkey off our back and stay in the race." The Hawks have a severe shortage of players at centre. They already have lost All-Star Al Horford for the season after he had surgery to repair his torn right pectoral muscle. Horfords backup, Pero Antic, is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his right ankle. Budenholzer said the injuries do not add urgency to make a deal before Thursdays trade deadline. Wizards centre Marcin Gortat took advantage of the Hawks lack of size, scoring 14 points with 12 rebounds. Martell Webster had 13 points. NOTES: The official play-by-play listed Arizas shot as a 57-footer, but replays confirmed the shot was much longer, launched from near the Hawks free-throw line. ... Washington had seven players score in double figures. ... Ariza made five 3-pointers. ... Kyle Korver made his first 3-pointer of the game late in the first half, extending his NBA record to 122 consecutive games with a 3. ... G Cartier Martin, also making his fourth start, filled in for Carroll and scored only four points. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Phil Mickelson played the final 11 holes in 5 under to salvage a 2-under 69 on Thursday in the first round of the Phoenix Open. The three-time champion bogeyed his first hole — the par-4 10th — after driving left into a hospitality tent. He had a double bogey on the par-5 15th, driving left into the water and hitting his approach in the water in front of the green.I came out and I just made a bunch of dumb mistakes and Im 3 over, Mickelson said. I made a birdie on 17 and followed with one on 18, and that really turned the round back around. I ended up playing the front nine really solid with 3 under and hit a lot of good shots on some holes I made pars, as well, and feel much better.Making his 26th appearance in the event, Lefty rebounded with the birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 — hitting to 5 feet on the par-4 18th — and added birdies on Nos. 3, 8 and 9.Im in a position now if I get hot tomorrow I can get right back in it, Mickelson said. If I end up shooting 1 over, 2 over, I end up having to get a hot round just to get in the middle of the pack, so this was a big round to get it to under par.The 44-year-old Mickelson was five strokes behind clubhouse leader Ryan Palmer when play was suspended because of darkness. He tied for 24th last week in La Quinta in his first start since the Ryder Cup in September and is winless since the 2013 British Open.Mickelson won at TPC Scottsdale in 1996, 2005 and 2013. In 2013, He shot 60-65-64-67 to match the tournament record of 28-under 256.___COURSE REVIEW: Count Martin Laird among the players pleased with the changes Tom Weiskopf made last year to TPC Scottsdales Stadium Course.I think theyre fantastic, Laird said. I think the course needed it, just a little tweak. Obviously, two or three holes that have changed quite a bit, but a lot of it is little tweaks. Visually its fantastic. Every hole looks great. Change in the bunkers really made a difference. I mean, I like every single thing they did. Thats not often you hear that when guys make changes, and that said, I think it needed it. I think it came out fantastic. The Scottsdale-based Scot opened with a 66. He eagled the par-5 third hole, hitting a 266-yard shot 4 feet from the back left pin.It was kind of a perfect number for a cup 5-wood, Laird said. Thats a new green. Youve got to use the big ridge that runs across the middle. It came out just perfect. Used the slope.___RECORD CROWD: Tournament officials estimated the crowd at 118,461, shattering the Thursday mark of 88,113 set last year. The event counts cars in figuring its estimates. The par-3 16th hole will generate about $12 million in ticket revenue this week. There are 228 skyboxes on the stadium hole at close to $50,000 each and 3,500 general-admission seats.___RAINY FORECAST: Periods of rain were expected Friday, with forecasters saying a half-inch to an inch could fall. The high is expected to be 60 degrees. Morning rain was forecast Saturday with a high of 64. It is expected to 70 and mostly sunny Sunday.___DIVOTS: Canadian Graham DeLaet lives in Scottsdale. Its nice to be home and doesnt really feel like a tournament week until you get out here, DeLaet said after a 67. Sleeping in your own bed is always great. ... Daniel Berger hit a 358-yard on the 341-yard 17th, leaving a chip back to the green that he hit 3 feet to set up a birdie. He was 6 under with two holes left when play was suspended because of darkness. Grey Michael Kors Tote Bag .A. Dickey will once again be their Opening Day starter. One would think that winning one of the NHLs signature events – with 50,000 fans watching in the stadium and a larger-than-normal television audience – could propel this team onto a much-needed winning streak.Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Al Jefferson poured in 28 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Charlotte Hornets to their first victory over the Miami Heat in over 4 1/2 years, a 96-89 decision at Time Warner Cable Arena. Including last years four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, the Heat had won 20 straight meetings between the clubs since an 83-79 loss in Charlotte on March 9, 2010. The Hornets finally got some payback behind Jeffersons prowess in the paint and a strong defensive effort that limited Miami to a 39.0 percent performance from the floor and an off-target 4-of-22 rate from 3-point range. Kemba Walker delivered 18 points and seven assists to help Charlotte halt a three-game overall skid, with Cody Zeller chipping in 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Dwyane Wade scored 25 points and Chris Bosh netted 23 in the loss, the Heats second in a row since a 3-0 start to the post-LeBron James era. Bosh added 13 rebounds and Wade tallied seven assists. Final Score: Orlando 91, Philadelphia 89 Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tobias Harris and the Orlando Magic have their first win. The Philadelphia 76ers are still waiting. Harris long jumper at the buzzer gave the Magic a 91-89 win over the Sixers on Wednesday night in a game between two 0-4 teams. The Magic avoided what would have been their first 0-5 start since 1990-91, their second season as an NBA team. The Sixers are 0-5 for the first time since the 2001-02 season, when they lost their first five games as the defending Eastern Conference champions. Making matters worse, center Nerlens Noel left the game with a sprained ankle in the third quarter and did not return. Harris made his winner from just inside the 3-point line on the right wing, shooting it over Sixers forward Luc Mbah a Moute, then running down the court toward the Orlando bench in celebration. It came after Henry Sims tied the score for Philadelphia at the other end on a straightaway jumper with 4.6 remaining, his only bucket of the game. Final Score: Toronto 110, Boston 107 Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Lowry poured in 35 points to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 110-107 win over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. DeMar DeRozan scored 23 and Patrick Patterson netted 14 on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc for Toronto, which has won two straight. Boston had a few solid individual performances, but it couldnt overcome 28 turnovers that led to 36 points. Rajon Rondo registered his 20th career triple-double with 13 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds, while Jeff Green paced the Celtics with 20 points. Jared Sullinger chipped in with 19 points and 16 rebounds in Bostons third straight loss. Final Score: Minnesota 98, Brooklyn 91 Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Nikola Pekovic made the go-ahead layup with 48.6 seconds remaining as the Minnesota Timberwolves scored nine unanswered points to end the game and beat the Brooklyn Nets 98-91 on Wednesday night. Pekovic was fouled by Brook Lopez pivoting for the go-ahead bucket and made the free throw to give the Timberwolves a 94-91 lead. Thaddeus Young added a floater and Kevin Martin made two foul shots for the last of his game-high 26 points, ending Minnesotas 9-0 flurry. Ricky Rubio started the run with a tying layup and finished with 14 points and 12 assists for the Timberwolves. Pekovic added 16 points and 11 rebounds and rookie Andrew Wiggins scored 17, an early career high. Joe Johnson had 22 points and Deron Williams scored 19 for the Nets, who lost for just the fifth time in their last 29 home games. Final Score: Detroit 98, New York 95 Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Greg Monroe racked up 23 points and 18 rebounds and the Detroit Pistons held off the New York Knicks down the stretch for a 98-95 victory, their first of the Stan Van Gundy era. Monroes monster performance and a 20-point effort out of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope got Detroit in the win column after opening Van Gundys first season as head coach with three straight losses. The Pistons dominated the glass, outrebounding the Knicks by a 55-43 margin and recording 19 second-chance points, and went 11- of-23 from 3-point range in addition to playing lockdown defense on Carmelo Anthony for much of the night. Andre Drummond added 13 rebounds and Josh Smith had 10. Smith finished a rough 2-of-17 from the field but shined on the other end, leading an effort that held Anthony without a basket in the first half and a 5-of-21 shooting performance for the game. Anthony got on track late to end with 13 points, and New York cut a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit down to two before ultimately being dealt a second loss in as many nights. Tim Hardaway Jr. paced the Knicks with 20 points while filling the sixth-man role of J.R. Smith, suspended for the game for striking Washingtons Glen Rice Jr. in the groin on Tuesday. Jason Smith contributed 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting for New York, which received 15 points each from Iman Shumpert and Amare Stoudemire. Final Score: Chicago 95, Milwaukee 86 Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson were dominant against a thin Milwaukee Bucks frontline on Wednesday, combining for 45 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 95-86 win. Gasol and Gibson more than made up for the absence of All-Star center Joakim Noah, who missed his second straight game with an illness. Gasol had 22 points and 14 rebounds while Gibson tallied a game-high 23 points with 10 boards. Derrick Rose returned after missing two games with two sprained ankles and donated 13 points with seven assists, while Jimmy Butler contributed 14 points, seven helpers and four steals in Chicagos third straight win. Giannis Antetokounmpo paced the Bucks with 13 points off the bench, while Brandon Knight stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals but shot just 3-of-15 from the field. Final Score: Washington 96, Indiana 94 (OT) Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Indiana and Washington sported different lineups Wednesday than the ones they trotted out during last seasons Eastern Conference semifinals. But the Wizards have their star. The Pacers do not. John Wall had 31 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals as Washinngton defeated short-handed Indiana 96-94 in overtime on Wednesday night.dddddddddddd. The Pacers led 88-87 in the extra session before Wall netted six straight points during the middle stages of the frame and the Wizards hung on down the stretch. Trailing 96-94 in the closing seconds, Roy Hibbert missed a left wing 3-pointer and Chris Copelands putback was off the mark for Indiana, which was without Paul George, George Hill, C.J. Watson, David West and Rodney Stuckey. Lance Stephenson, of course, left Indiana for Charlotte in the offseason. Garrett Temple hit four 3-pointers and netted 16 points to go with seven rebounds and Marcin Gortat posted 14 points and 10 boards for Washington, which is still without the blossoming Bradley Beal. The Wizards signed Paul Pierce to be their small forward in place of Trevor Ariza. The Pacers won last years semifinal in six games. Donald Sloan, who tallied a career-high 31 points to go with seven assists and six rebounds, netted the final seven Indiana points in regulation to force overtime. Copeland supplied 19 points and 12 rebounds off the bench and Solomon Hill provided 14 points and eight rebounds for the 1-4 Pacers, who are off to their worst start since the 1996-97 squad began 1-5. Final Score: San Antonio 94, Atlanta 92 San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Manu Ginobili scored seven of his 12 points from the free throw line, including two in the closing seconds that proved to be the difference in the San Antonio Spurs 94-92 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. San Antonio continued its dominance over Atlanta, winning its 17th straight at home and 16th out of the last 17 overall against the Eastern Conference foe. Al Horford made a jumper at 1:16 of the fourth to give the Hawks a 90-88 lead. However, Ginobili made three free throws after he was fouled by Kyle Korver while shooting a 3-pointer to push San Antonio ahead by one. Following an empty possession from each team, Tim Duncan came up with a block on Korver with 24.9 seconds left. Duncan was then fouled off an inbounds pass, and split the pair at the line. Jeff Teague raced down the court and converted a running bank shot to tie the score at 92-92 with 13.6 seconds remaining. Ginobili brought the ball up court, drove the lane and kicked out to the corner, but he was fouled on the drive with 3.8 seconds showing and calmly hit both free throws to account for the final margin. Boris Diaw blocked Pero Antics last second heave from just inside halfcourt as the Spurs held on. Duncan and Tony Parker each finished with 17 points, with the former grabbing 13 rebounds with six blocks, four assists and three steals. Kawhi Leonard and Diaw each scored 11 points in the win. DeMarre Carroll and Paul Millsap each tallied 17 points for the Hawks, while Horford netted 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Final Score: Memphis 102, Phoenix 91 Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Courtney Lee returned to the Memphis lineup after missing two games with a concussion and made an impact, scoring 22 points to help the Grizzlies take a 102-91 win over the Phoenix Suns and remain unbeaten on the season. Mike Conley scored a game-high 24 points with 11 assists for Memphis, as he and Lee both shot 9-of-14 from the field. Marc Gasol had 18 points and Memphis improved to 5-0 to build on the best start in franchise history. Eric Bledsoe netted 23 points for Phoenix, losers in two of three. Markieff Morris added 20 points and Isaiah Thomas gave 15 off the bench. Final Score: Utah 102, Cleveland 100 Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Gordon Hayward joked last month on Twitter that hed crush LeBron James in a game of one-on-one. Hayward was talking about video games, but he did get the best of James on Wednesday. Hayward stepped back and drained a right-wing jumper at the buzzer to lift the Utah Jazz to a 102-100 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. James, who had six points in the final 13.9 seconds, hit three free throws after drawing a foul from beyond the arc on Derrick Favors with 3.4 seconds left to tie the game, but Hayward had the answer at the other end to send the Cavs to a 1-3 start. Hayward took an inbounds pass at the top of the arc as James fell down, took a few dribbles to his right, stepped back and rose over the outstretched arm of Tristan Thompson as time expired. Hayward finished with 21 points and seven assists, Derrick Favors posted 21 points and 10 rebounds and Enes Kanter added 18 points for the Jazz, who have won two of three since starting 0-2. Kyrie Irving netted a game-high 34 points and James provided 31 for Cleveland, which trailed by as many as 16. Final Score: Sacramento 131, Denver 109 Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - DeMarcus Cousins was at his best on Wednesday, pouring in 30 points with 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes of action as his Sacramento Kings beat the Denver Nuggets for the second time this week with a 131-109 decision. Cousins shot 10-of-14 from the floor and made 10 of his 11 free throws for the Kings, winners in four straight after opening the season with a home loss to Golden State. They topped the Nuggets in Denver on Monday, 110-105. Rudy Gay continued his hot start to the season with 29 points, and Carl Landry added 18 off the bench. Randy Foyes 19 points led the way for Denver, which got 13 points and nine assists from Ty Lawson. Final Score: Golden State 121, LA Clippers 104 Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors exacted some revenge en route to their best start in 20 years. Stephen Curry had 28 points, seven assists and six rebounds as the Warriors rolled to a 121-104 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. The 4-0 Warriors, who havent opened a season this well since beginning 5-0 in 1994-95, were ousted in seven games by the Clippers in the first round of last years playoffs. Draymond Green posted 24 points, eight boards and five assists and Klay Thompson netted 19 points for the Warriors, who shot an NBA season-high 58.1 percent (43-of-74) from the floor. DeAndre Jordan tallied 17 points and 13 rebounds, Chris Paul supplied 15 points, 12 assists and four steals and Jamal Crawford netted 24 points off the bench for Los Angeles, which fell to 3-2 on the young campaign. LOS ANGELES -- Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson are among the few Los Angeles Kings who dont have a Stanley Cup ring from two years ago. Jeff Carter is grateful the youngsters are carrying him along on their own Cup chase after their line came up with another monster game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Carter had a goal and two assists, Toffoli scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period, and the Kings beat Chicago 4-3 on Saturday night to take a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals. Drew Doughty had a third-period goal and an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 24 saves as the Kings returned to Staples Center with an impressive two-way effort against the defending Stanley Cup champions. "Im having so much fun with these guys," said Toffoli, who has scored a goal in every game of the conference finals. "Getting to play with a guy like Carter is a great opportunity, and (Pearson) and me are trying to live up to him." Game 4 is Monday night at Staples Center. Three days after Carter had four points in the third period of Game 2, Los Angeles got another dominant effort from the line centred by the veteran goal-scorer. In a 6:11 span of the second period of Game 3, Carter scored the tying goal off Pearsons pass before setting up the go-ahead score by Toffoli, who has a goal in every game of the conference finals. "They have a lot of chemistry from playing together" in the minors, Carter said. "They use their speed and their skill to create opportunities, and they kind of drag me along with them, so its fun." Toffoli and Pearson still hadnt cracked Los Angeles lineup in 2012 when the eighth-seeded Kings won the title. Toffoli became a regular for last seasons run to the conference finals, while Pearson made his NHL debut in a playoff game last spring. Theyve both become key components of the Kings four-line offensive attack. Slava Voynov also scored an early power-play goal as the Kings moved halfway to their second Stanley Cup final in three years. Captain Jonathan Toews scored twice in the first period for the Blackhawks, but they didnt score again until Patrick Sharps goal with 5 seconds left. Corey Crawford stopped 28 shots for the Blackhawks, who have lost the first road game in 10 consecutive playoff series since 2010. "Once they got the lead, they seemed to get the momentum, and we couldnt quite find our way back into the game," Toews said. "Its up to us to play better with those leads." Three days after the Kings evened the series by scoring six consecutive goals in the final 22 minutes of Game 2, Los Angeles didnt relax and rely on its NHL-best defence. Neither team played conservatively despite the stakes, instead trading tantalizing scoring chances for the first two periods. The Kings kept pushing for goals even while leading in the third, generating 18 shots and keeping the talented Blackhawks stuck in their own end for long stretches. "We all want to win in here, and Toews is obviously our captain and leader," Chicago defenceman Duncan Keith said. "He definitely led the way tonight, but we need everybody if we are going to beat this team and try to win one here. Toews came out and led the way. Its up to the rest of us to follow that." The Blackhawks beat Los Angeles in five games in the conference finals last season, but the rematch hasnt been nearly as smooth for Chicago. Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell havent scored a goal in the conference finals, while Sharps last-gasp goal was his first of the series. The Blackhawks had their usual hundreds of red-clad fans in an otherwise black-and-white Staples Center crowd, and Toews put Chicago ahead just 5:26 into Game 3 with a spectacular short-handed goal, stealing the puck from Justin Williams and beating Quick between the legs. After Voynov tied it, Toews connected again later in the period on a rebound. The Kings evened it in the second period when Pearson corralled a puck that hit a referee behind the net and fed it to Carter in front for his eighth goal. Carter then chipped the puck ahead to Toffoli shortly after a Chicago power play ended. Toffoli broke in on Crawford, who lifted his left pad for only an instant -- right when Toffoli pushed the puck under him. The Kings kept up the pressure in the third period, and Doughty scored just his second goal of the post-season shortly after a power play expired in the third period. NOTES: F Andrew Shaw returned to Chicagos lineup after a seven-game injury absence. He took the lineup spot of Peter Regin, who had played the last four games. ... Toews had his first multigoal performance in 63 playoff games since May 7, 2010, when he had a hat trick against Vancouver. ... Guitarist Slash played the national anthem. Wayne Gretzky, Dick Butkus, David Beckham, Eric Stonestreet, Josh Duhamel, Taylor Kitsch and former Kings forward Dustin Penner attended the game. "It was probably their best game of the playoffs that theyve played against us." And it was a loss, as the Kings failed to finish off the sweep thanks to 40 saves by Henrik Lundqvist, one by Anton Stralman and one by a combination of snow built up in the crease and Derek Stepan.OTTAWA -- Philip Scrubb collected another basketball trophy Wednesday, earning Canadian Interuniversity Sports most outstanding player award for the third consecutive season. The fourth-year guard from Carleton University kicked off his varsity career with rookie of the year honours in 2011, before racking up three straight Mike Moser Memorial Trophies for outstanding player. "Phil has been the guy we have gone through for four years and without him, there could never have been the success that we have had," said Ravens head coach Dave Smart. "He is an extremely talented player who is a full team guy over everything else." The 21-year-old from Richmond, B.C., was one of three Ravens to win national awards. His older brother Thomas, a fourth-year forward, was named the top defensive player in the CIS, while Smart added to his collection of Stuart W. Aberdeen Memorial Trophies, claiming his fourth consecutive coach of the year award and seventh overall. University of New Brunswick guard Javon Masters won the Dr. Peter Mullins Trophy as rookie of the year, while Saint Marys forward Harry Ezenibe won the Ken Shields Award for excellence in basketball, academics and community involvement. The awards were presented in advance of the CIS mens championship that opens Friday in Ottawa. Scrubb was the most consistent player on the top-ranked Ravens, leading Carleton in scoring (18.6 points a game) and assists (4.9). The six-foot-three guard was ranked third in the CIS in assist-to-turnover ratio, fifth in three-point shooting and eighth in free-throw percentage. Scrubb led Carleton to a perfect 22-0 in conference action for the third time in four years. The commerce student helped the Ravens to the CIS title in each of his first three seasons. He was the only active CIS player invited to Canadas senior national team camp last summer. Scrubb was a member of the national team for both the 2013 Summer Universiade and the 2011 Pan American Games. The other finalists for the Moser Trophy were Acadia forward Owen Klassen, McGill guard Vincent Dufort and Alberta forward Jordan Baker. Thomas Scrubb earned defensive MVP honours for the first time after claiming the conference defensive award for the second consecutive season. The six-foot-six forward was once again the anchor of a defensive unit that finished first in the OUA and second in the CIS for fewest points allowed (62.2 per game). The neuroscience student averaged 8.4 rebounds a game on the defensive end, and chipped in on offence with 13.2 points a night. "Tommy has been asked to cover the best player on the other team every game regardless of position for two years," said Smart. "He has deferred other offensive aspects of his game to do that. If not for him I have no idea how we would stop anyone. He doesnt defend one position, he defends four positions, very few can do that.&quoot; Acadia forward Owen Klassen, Concordia forward Zach Brisebois and Victoria guard Reiner Theil were the other finalists for defensive MVP.dddddddddddd Masters, a native of Kitchener, Ont., is the first UNB player to win the Dr. Peter Mullins Trophy. The six-foot guard claimed the national scoring title with 27.4 points a game, and topped the Atlantic conference in three-point shooting percentage (42.4). His 215 free throws made, the highest total in CIS this year, are a new season mark for the league. The 19-year-old helped the Varsity Reds finish with a .500 record (10-10) for the first time since 2003-04. "(Masters) has made a major impact on our program and will continue to do so as he progresses through his career at UNB," said coach Brent Baker. "Leading the country in scoring as a freshman is a rare and special accomplishment." McGill guard Dele Ogundokun, Brock forward Dani Elgadi and Alberta forward Mamadou Gueye were the other nominees. Smart now has seven CIS coach-of-the-year awards in only 15 seasons, three more than legendary coaches Ken Shields and Bruce Enns. His four consecutive national awards are also two more than any other coach in history. This season, he led the Ravens to an undefeated conference record for the third time in four years and the sixth time overall. He improved his all-time record in league play to 303-23 (.929), with nine of those losses coming in his first year as head coach. "Dave has done a remarkable job with our mens basketball program," said Carleton athletic director Jennifer Frenning. "Not only has he recruited and developed top student-athletes, he has instilled positive values and a strong work ethic which will make them successful well past graduation." The other finalists were Acadias Stephen Baur, McGills David DeAveiro and Victorias Craig Beaucamp. Ezenibe, a native of Nigeria, became the first Saint Marys student-athlete to win the Ken Shields Award. On the court, the six-foot-four forward averaged 9.0 points a game in his fifth season. In the classroom, the two-time academic all-Canadian is completing a double major in sociology and criminology and maintains a 3.6 grade point average. Ezenibe spends his free time volunteering with youth in the community and hopes to establish a project to help children in Nigeria. In November, he was invited by Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri to speak at the opening of the Giants of Africa foundation. "Harry is completely selfless," said Huskies head coach Jonah Taussig. "He is always looking out for the greater good whether it be with his teammates or the youth he works with in the community. He is always looking to make a positive difference in the lives of the people around him." Bishops Scott Ring, Carletons Kevin Churchill and Fraser Valleys Jasper Moedt were also nominated. Lyles stayed in the game, but had to use two hands to catch the ball when it was thrown back to him. He finally left aftter the fourth inning.dddddddddddd The 23-year-old Lyles is 5-1 this season with a 3.52 ERA. To take Lyles place on the roster, the Rockies recalled right-hander Chris Martin from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Martin was 0-1 and had a 5.52 ERA with the Sky Sox. The Rockies have yet to make a move to fill Logans spot. They may be waiting, since theyre expected to call up prized pitching prospect Eddie Butler from Double-A Tulsa on Friday to throw against the Los Angeles Dodgers. 19:35ET 05-06-14 Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NHL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' ' |

NEWARK, N.J. - Jaromir Jagr scored his first goal of the preseason and Cory Schneider stopped 20 shots to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 3-0 victory over the New York Rangers in the teams preseason finale Saturday night. The Devils (4-1-1) got on the scoreboard with less than a minute remaining in the first period, when Tuomo Ruutu deflected a shot from defenceman Adam Larsson past Rangers goalie Cam Talbot. The 42-year-old Jagr, beginning his second season with New Jersey, made it 2-0 at 7:20 of the second period when he took a rebound of a shot by Larsson and put a pretty backhand past Talbot.Dainius Zubrus capped the scoring on a deflection with less than 12 minutes left.Talbot finished with 21 saves for the Rangers (3-3-0). Purple Nike Air Max . Louis day started way better than it finished. Nike Air Max Classic Bw Mens .Y. - Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog and Ryan OReilly each had a goal and an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. http://www.airmaxforuksale.com/buy-nike-air-max-90-shoes/nike-air-max-90-floral.html . Neither had anyone else. Aided by a bizarre play in which Cleveland runner David Murphy was fooled by a second ball on the field and tagged out, Cincinnati defeated the Indians 9-2 on Tuesday night. Purple Nike Air Max For Women . Goals from Keith Andrews, Jon Walters and two in the closing stages from captain Robbie Keane gave Ireland the win, in which Estonias poor defending was ruthlessly exposed by Giovanni Trapattonis men. Red Nike Air Max Womens .Gabriel Mercado and German Pezzella both scored with headers to give the famous Buenos Aires club its first international title in 17 years. The two teams drew 1-1 in the first leg last week in Latin Americas second most important club tournament after the Copa Libertadores. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Boston Red Sox did a better job of walking a tightrope than the Kansas City Royals. At least, thats how manager John Farrell summed up Thursday nights 6-3 victory. The last-place Red Sox took advantage of three critical errors by the first-place Royals, and managed to deal with their own costly miscue to end a frustrating four-game losing streak. "Both sides were capitalizing on errant throws or hit-by-pitches," Farrell said. "Any time you give a club an extra out, youre walking a tightrope, and that was the case tonight." Clay Buchholz (8- allowed three runs, two earned, over 6 1-3 innings for the Red Sox. He turned a one-run lead over to the Boston bullpen, and it preserved his sixth straight win against the Royals. Edward Mujica handled a perfect ninth for his fifth save. Kansas Citys advantage in the AL Central dropped to a half-game over idle Detroit. "I felt good with my off-speed stuff early," said Buchholz, who is starting to resemble the All-Star of last year. "With the lefties they have in their lineup, its a pitch I needed to have any chance of winning tonight." Liam Hendriks (1-2) failed to last three innings while making a spot start for left-hander Danny Duffy, who is shelved with shoulder soreness. The Royals defence didnt do Hendriks any favours, either, making all three errors in the first four frames. "There are no focus issues there," Royals manager Ned Yost said later. "Thats baseball," Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar added. "That happens." Nearly every run scored in the game was a product of some sort of mishap, though. In the second inning, Bostons Will Middlebrooks doubled and then scored when Eric Hosmer allowed a two-out grounder by Christian Vazquez to get by him into right field. It was the Gold Glove first basemans third error in four games and his 10th of the season. The Royals pulled ahead in the bottom half, getting a two-out doouble from Lorenzo Cain and back-to-back singles by Escobar and Nori Aoki.ddddddddddddOn Aokis hit, Escobar rounded third wide, and first baseman Mike Napoli tried to throw him out. The cross-diamond throw nearly wound up in the visiting dugout, and the error allowed Escobar to trot home for a 2-1 lead. Boston pulled back ahead in the third. Mookie Betts singled, Xander Bogaerts walked, and Yoenis Cespedes was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hendriks walked Napoli to tie the game, and Middlebrooks singled up the middle to give the Red Sox the lead. They added another run in the fourth, thanks in part to two more errors. Kansas City pieced together a promising rally in the sixth. Josh Willingham was hit by a pitch leading off, and Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain hit back-to-back two-out singles to make it 4-3. But Buchholz bounced back to strike out Escobar and preserve the lead. Jemile Weeks added a two-run double in the eighth to give Boston a cushion. "Were struggling offensively a little bit," Yost said. "Plus, Hendriks went out, had a really good first inning. The error in the second inning cost him a run. He lost all his tempo in the third inning. He was really rushing his delivery to the plate." TRAINERS ROOM Red Sox: 2B Dustin Pedroia had surgery Thursday to repair tendon damage and clean out scar tissue in his troublesome left wrist. He is expected to heal in about six weeks. "It created more range of motion and instant relief than Dustin has felt," Farrell said. Royals: RHP Greg Holland (muscle stiffness) felt good after throwing Monday, Yost said, and could have been available. ... Duffy said he hopes to begin throwing in the next couple of days. He is due to start Tuesday against the White Sox. UP NEXT Red Sox: RHP Allen Webster (3-3, 6.47) faces Kansas City for the first time since April 2013. Royals: RHP Yordano Ventura (12-9, 3.25) tries to win his fourth consecutive start. MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of Saturdays Premier League game against Newcastle with a toe injury, and is doubtful for the Champions League return leg against Bayern Munich next week. United manager David Moyes told the clubs in-house TV station that Rooney has "a badly bruised toe," adding that "not only is it a problem for this (Newcastle) game, it could be a problem for the Munich match." United said Rooney picked up the injury during the 1-1 draw against Bayern at Old Trafford on Tuesday in the first leg of their quarterfinal. Moyes said the striker will be given treatment over the weekend to see if he can get fit for the return in Germany on Wednesday. United is already without injured striker Robin van Persie. Adidas Superstar Shoes Sale . The NFL has said former Saints defensive co-ordinator Gregg Williams ran an improper pay-for-performance pool, which offered bonuses for big plays as well as big hits that forced opposing players from games or left them needing help to leave the field. Adidas Neo High Tops Grey . That was two games too many for LeBron James. The reigning NBA MVP had 21 points, eight assists and 14 boards for his first double-digit rebounding game of the season, leading the Heat to a 103-82 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night. Adidas Neo Trainers Womens . A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press the Steelers will part ways with the former Pro Bowler, a move that hardly serves as a surprise after fifth-year linebacker Jason Worilds agreed to accept a "transition player" tag last week.AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had enough responsibility trying to contain James Harden at the defensive end. That made the Detroit guards offensive contribution that much more impressive.Caldwell-Pope scored a season-high 28 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, and the Pistons held off Harden and the Houston Rockets 114-101 on Saturday night. D.J. Augustin added 28 points and 12 assists for Detroit.I felt good, Caldwell-Pope said. I got myself going with my energy on the defensive end, ran the floor to get easy baskets and that opened up my outside shooting.Harden scored 21 of his 26 points in the second half, returning from a bruised left knee to help the Rockets nearly rally from a 21-point, third-quarter deficit.Houstons Josh Smith was booed throughout his return to the Palace, just more than a month after the Pistons waived the high-priced forward. He had seven points and seven rebounds, shooting only 3 of 11 from the field. Detroit snapped a four-game skid and ended Houstons four-game winning streak. We didnt defend the 3-point line and we didnt defend the paint. They just played a lot harder than we did, and we just let them kick our tails, Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. We couldnt stop Augustin in any part of the floor. I tried a couple different lineups because I just wanted someone to get in front of him for a couple possessions. The Pistons played well initially after cutting Smith, winning seven straight, and fans gave him an unfriendly welcome in his return, booing him when he went to the scorers table to check in for the first time and also when he touched the ball.Detroit led 59-46 at halftime and 86-69 at the start of the fourth quarter.Harden led a 19-6 run to start the fourth, but Caldwell-Pope made enough big shots down the stretch to help the Pistoons hold on.dddddddddddd The second-year guard capped the victory with a shot from well behind the 3-point line with 3.1 seconds remaining and the shot clock expiring.___BOUNCING BACKThe Pistons were coming off an embarrassing 20-point loss at Philadelphia, and they were sharp throughout against Houstons normally tough defence. Greg Monroe had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Andre Drummond had 11 and 16. Detroit won for the first time since losing point guard Brandon Jennings last weekend to a ruptured Achilles tendon.Augustin, the starting point guard with Jennings out, had one of his best games of the season.Yeah, I thought he was decent, coach Stan Van Gundy joked. No, he was tremendous. He really was. He was on the attack, right from the start of the game on, and thats big for us.DEFENSIVE PROBLEMSHouston was without star centre Dwight Howard, who has been sidelined because of swelling in his right knee. Harden left toward the end of the second quarter with his knee injury but came back and played almost the entire second half.No matter who was in, the Rockets couldnt slow down the Pistons.Terrible defence. They had 69 points in their last game against Philly and we let them have 60 at halftime, Harden said. Thats terrible. We didnt play at all until the fourth quarter, and that was too late. The Rockets lead the NBA in 3-pointers, but Detroit held its own from beyond the arc, going 10 of 25. Houston shot 11 of 32 on 3s.TIP-INSRockets: Donatas Motiejunas scored 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting. ... Harden had nine assists and seven rebounds.Pistons: Augustins 12 assists were his season high. ... Caldwell-Pope fell two points short of his career high in scoring. He made six 3-pointers.UP NEXTThe Rockets host Chicago on Wednesday night. The Pistons host Miami on Tuesday night.
