GENEVA -- World Cup-bound Algeria beat Romania 2-1 in a warm-up match on Wednesday marred by widespread fan disorder. The teams were taken off the field after 43 minutes with the score 1-1, and Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic went to the centre circle to broadcast an appeal for fans to stop throwing lit flares and bottles. Referee Nikolaj Haeni of Switzerland brought players back after a 15-minute break to play the final two minutes of the first half, then immediately changed ends to start the second period. When El Arabi Soudani scored the decisive goal in the 66th minute, around 15 fans ran on the pitch from three sides of the Stade de Geneve. Nabil Bentaleb had put Algeria ahead in the 21st minute after a handling error by Romania goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, and Alexandru Chipciu levelled in the 28th. "The result is very satisfying. The team is progressing on all levels," said Halilhodzic, adding he was "a bit disappointed with the behaviour of our supporters." The final whistle brought around 1,000 of the 15,600 spectators on to the field. Many dispersed when water sprinklers were turned on, though some continued to clash with stewards in one corner of the pitch. Algeria opens against Group H favourite Belgium on June 17 in Belo Horizonte. It then plays South Korea in Porto Alegre and Russia in Curitiba. Despite events in the stands, Algeria made a good impression on the field. Abdelmoumene Djabou and Bentaleb gave Romania right-back Vlad Chiriches, Bentalebs Tottenham teammate, a tough time and Algerias best moves flowed there. Sofiane Feghouli twice wasted clear shooting chances in the 17th minute, before Algeria led when Manchester City keeper Pantilimon spilled Djabous cross. Bentaleb and Feghouli converged on the loose ball which looped into the empty goal. The goal sparked a firework display around the stadium with at least 15 flares burning in the stands. Romania levelled seven minutes later when Alexandru Chipciu beat the offside line, rounded goalkeeper Rais MBolhi who had charged out of his penalty area, and rolled the ball into an unguarded goal. Fan trouble resumed in the second period when an Algerian supporter encroached on the pitch in the 57th as his team prepared to take a corner. A mini-pitch invasion followed Algeria retaking the lead in the 66th when El Arabi Soudani connected with Saphir Taiders pass from the right side of the penalty area. Adidas Originals Honey donna . Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Charlie Coyle scored the game-winning goal with 4:23 remaining as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 on Tuesday. Nino Niederreiter also scored and Devan Dubnyk made 23 saves for the Wild, who ended a two-game skid. Boyd Gordon provided Edmontons lone goal and Viktor Fasth stopped 27-of-29 shots in defeat. Coyles deciding effort came after he skated down the left side past two defenders, dragged Fasth out of his net and capped off the play by tucking the puck into the net from below the goal line. Wild defenseman Ryan Suter went off for holding the stick with 1:22 remaining and the Oilers pulled Fasth for a two-man advantage, but Dubnyk made multiple saves down the stretch and Dubnyks defenders blocked several shots to preserve the win. Minnesota started the scoring 9:09 into the game. Justin Fontaine stripped a defender of the puck near the net and dished it to Niederreiter, who beat Fasth with a quick wrister in tight. Dubnyk stacked the pads to stop Justin Schultz on a breakaway and keep the Wild in front midway through the second period. The Oilers did, however, tie the game after Gordons wraparound ricocheted off Minnesota defenseman Kyle Brodziaks skate and into the net with 2:44 left in the middle stanza. Ayons surgery on Friday was performed in Atlanta by Dr.The Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues all augmented their free agent classes by signing some European free agents. Numbers Game examines the signings of Petri Kontiola, Leo Komarov, Jiri Sekac and Jori Lehtera. The Maple Leafs Sign: C Petri Kontiola and LW Leo Komarov. Komarov is a familiar face for the Maple Leafs, a 27-year-old winger who was a regular in the Leafs lineup in 2012-2013 before returning to the KHL for a nice payday last season. Komarov had a strong year in the KHL, with Moscow Dynamo, leading the team with 34 points in 52 games, and he played for Finland in both the Olympics and the World Championships. Komarov didnt score much in his first go-round with the Leafs, tallying nine points in 42 games, but there may be more offence to his game than that. Usage would play a big part in whether or not Komarov is ever a factor offensively, but hes being brought back to Toronto more for his attitude than production. Komarov is a relentless pest, who hits a lot and gets under opponents skin. To his credit, he did have solid relative possession stats for the Leafs a couple of years ago. Heres the issue with Komarov, though. If he is capable of contributing offensively, and could fill a top-nine role, then it could justify the four-year, $11.8-million contract he received. If hes the same energetic fourth-liner that he was a couple of years ago -- a distinct possibility -- then hes vastly overpaid. Kontiola is a 29-year-old who was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2004 and played a dozen games with the Blackhawks in 2007-2008, registering five assists and, in that small sample, putting up great possession stats. In two AHL seasons, Kontiola scored 140 points in 159 (regular season plus playoff) games, before heading to the KHL, where he has scored 152 points in 204 games over the past four seasons, the last three with Chelyabinsk Traktor. He had 14 points in 16 games playing for Finland at the Olympics and in the World Championships. With that track record, its possible that Kontiola could contribute some offence for the Maple Leafs but, as a 29-year-old who has barely seen NHL action, he could also be a spare part. The good news is that, signed to a contract for $1.1-million for one season, hes a low-risk investment. If he wins a spot in the lineup and contributes, they can work on an extension; if he doesnt, no big deal. The Canadiens Sign: RW Jiri Sekac. 22-year-old Jiri Sekac was suddenly a hot name on the free agent market this spring after a nice season in the KHL, scoring 11 goals and 28 pointss in 47 games for Prague Lev, leading his team in points per game (0.dddddddddddd.60). As a junior, Sekac played a little in North America, earning zero points in eight games with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL as a 17-year-old before joining Youngstown of the USHL, where he scored 56 points in 96 games. Understandably, with that production, he wasnt considered a hot NHL prospect and went to the KHL, where he scored 21 points in 83 games over two seasons before breaking out last season. Signed for two years, at an entry-level of max of $925,000 per season (plus bonuses), Sekac is rapidly-improving and his potential drew lots of interest throughout the league, but it would be premature -- considering hes had basically one productive scoring season in three years -- to put big expectations on his scoring significantly for Montreal next season. However, if Sekac found a spot in Montreals top nine, maybe he could contribute some offence as a rookie. The Blues Sign: C Jori Lehtera. Lehtera, 26, was a third-round pick of the Blues in 2008 and has played all of 14 (regular season plus playoff games) in North America since, managing three points with Peoria in the 2008-2009 season. Since then, however, Lehtera has been very productive as a playmaking centre. In the past three seasons, playing for Novosibirsk Sibir in the KHL, Lehtera has tallied 39 goals and 118 points in 125 games (with zero goals and eight points in 13 playoff games). The 6-foot-2 centre had 12 points in 10 games at the World Championships this year, as well as four points in six games at the Olympics, not looking the least bit out of place against high-level competition. Coming to North America may require some adjustment, but Lehtera is going to have an opportunity to put up points right out of the game, slated to skate on the Blues second line with Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko on his wings. With quality playing time on a strong team, Lehtera could make an impact right away. 50 points seems a reasonable expectation, but theres upside beyond that if he can make a smooth transition. Lehtera is signed for two years, at a total cost of $5.5-million, a very reasonable price if he ends up fulfilling a top-six role for the Blues. His presence, along with Paul Stastny, allows the Blues to move David Backes and Patrik Berglund to the wing, giving the team outstanding depth up front. PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Golf is starting to feel easy again for Rory McIlroy, who bounced back from a sloppy start Friday in the Honda Classic for a 4-under 66 that gave him his first 36-hole lead on the PGA Tour in 18 months. Tiger Woods is making it look hard. McIlroy recovered from two early bogeys by running off six birdies in a 10-hole stretch. He looked solid from tee-to-green, hit putts with growing confidence and wound up with a one-shot lead over Brendon de Jonge. "I knew that with the way Im playing and the confidence in my ability, I would be able to get those shots back," McIlroy said. "I didnt panic. I didnt try to do anything different. Just tried to keep playing the way I was." He was at 11-under 129. Woods felt fortunate to still be playing. He was over the cut line after scrambling for a bogey on the 11th hole and wound up with a 69 to make the cut on the number. Woods hit only two greens over his last nine holes. His lone birdie on the back nine was a chip-in on the 13th after he missed the green with a wedge. "It was a grind, theres no doubt about it," Woods said. "I didnt hit it very good. Just one of those days where I fought out a number, which was good." Because 79 players made the cut, there will be another cut to top 70 and ties on Saturday. Woods missed the 54-hole cut the last time he played on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines. David Hearn (70) of Brantford, Ont., is tied for 23rd at 3 under. Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., did not make the cut after shooting a 72 and a 70. Calgarys Stephen Ames was also out after a 73 and a 75. And at least hes still playing the weekend. That wasnt the case for Phil Mickelson. Playing the Honda Classic for the first time in 12 years, he had a 71 to miss the cut. So did Henrik Stenson, the No. 3 player in the world, with rounds of 73-76. McIlroy knew the feeling a year ago, when he took a steep fall from No. 1 in the world while changing equipment and trying to live up to high expectations, leading to his snap decision to walk off the course after 26 holes last year at the Honda Classic. A growing gallery in warm sunshine at PGA National saw a familiar game -- the McIlroy who won the Honda Classic two years ago. Swinging freely and putting beautifully, McIlroy hit his stride on his back nine with four birdies in five holes, including the par-5 third when he smashed a drive some 35 yards past Adam Scott and had only a 6-iron into the green on the 539-yard hole. De Jonge, who has never won on the PGA Tour, played early in the afternoon when the wind picked up and put eight birdies on his card in a 64. He was tied for the lead when he missed the green with a wedge on No. 9 and made bogey. Even so, hell be in the last group Saturday with McIlroy. "I think I might have got a little bit of switch in the wind," de Jonge said. Russell Henley had a 68 and was three shots behind. Russell Knox of Scotland had the low round Friday at 63 and was four shots back along with Lee Westwood (65). But the focus is clearly on McIlroy, who each week looks to be getting better. "This year is obviously a lot different," McIlroy said. "Got off to a good start. Im confident. Im playing well. This is the second straight tournament Ive opened with a 63, so if I can keep building on these good starts, then hopefully I can start converting." After a 63 in Dubai, he said he was pressing too much in the final round and wound up in a tie for ninth. Friday was another step in the right direction, despite two errant tee shots on the 11th and 12th holes that led to bogeys. His round changed with a tee shot into 6 feet on the 16th hole for a birdie, and then a 12-foot birdie on the 18th to wrap up his front nine and earn back the two shots he had dropped. After a 45-foot birdie attempt on the second hole rimmed all the way around and out of the cup, Boy Wonder took off. He two-putted the par-5 third. He hit a wedge into 4 feet on the next hole. He rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt down the hill at the par-5 fifth. Then, after a tough par save on the sixth, he sank another 30-foot birdie putt that McIlroy made look routine. The gallery is kept 100 yards from the green, so the only applause came from a few marshals. It sounded like a tap-in for par. McIlroy reacted that way, too. "Watching Rory play is amazing when hes swinging like this," Scott said after his own great recovery. The Masters champ put shots in the water on the 16th and 17th holes, both times making double bogey, and it looked as though his return to golf after a six-week break would be a short one. But the Australian ran off four birdies on the front nine for a 70. It will take a lot more to catch McIlroy, who has taken only 49 putts through two rounds. "Thats probably the lowest putting total after 36 Ive probably had, maybe in my career," he said. "So its obviously going in the right direction." And unlike the Bears, theyre still in the playoff hunt. The Saints will try to shake off their most lopsided loss of the season and give their post-season hopes a boost when they visit Chicago on Monday night. Its a matchup between two of the leagues most disappointing teams. You can watch the game live on TSN1, TSN3 and TSN4 at 8:30pm et/5:30pm pt. They come in with identical records (5-8) and are trying to put a difficult week behind them. The Saints got blasted 41-10 at home last week by Carolina. The Bears got hit with another round of turmoil, with offensive co-ordinator Aaron Kromer acknowledging he was a source behind a critical report by the NFL Network about quarterback Jay Cutler. Man, this is a humbling league, New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. The Saints began the week tied for the NFC South lead with Atlanta — their next opponent — despite dropping four of five. They allowed 497 yards and got pounded by a Carolina team that came in with six straight losses. Payton said during the week he would not rule out lineup changes, and safety Kenny Vaccaro said Thursday his role is changing. He would not say exactly how, and his coach offered few details. Payton also made some roster changes this week, cutting receiver Joe Morgan on Tuesday and promoting receiver Seantavius Jones from the practice squad. A lot of it is the expectation that showing up and playing is enough, right tackle Zach Strief said. Its not: OK, I put my uniform on, I look good, I walk out on the field and now that were here and were the Saints and we have this history where well win games, now were just going to win this game. ... Thats not the reality of this league. For the Bears, this season has been one harsh reality check. They came in with visions of a playoff run, only to fall out of contention for the seventh time in eight years. The situation with Kromer was just another in a line of distractions. He owned up in public to what he did on Friday after asking players and coaches for forgiveness on Monday. That happened after he complained to the NFL Networks about Cutlers ability to audible out of run plays that might not work. The stoory also suggested the Bears had buyers remorse for signing their quarterback to a contract extension after last season.dddddddddddd But according to the Chicago Tribune, Kromer insisted in his apology to the team that he never mentioned that. Kromer said he never considered quitting over this and coach Marc Trestman insisted he did not think about firing him. But the episode raised more questions about the leadership and the direction of the franchise in a season when there were already more than a few. The Kromer situation was just another log in a fire that includes linebacker Lance Briggs missing practice to open a restaurant near Sacramento in the week leading up to the opener; defensive end Lamarr Houston suffering a season-ending injury celebrating a meaningless late sack at New England; and some eyebrow-raising incidents involving Brandon Marshall. Among them was a long, rambling news conference over past allegations of domestic abuse; flying to New York weekly to record Showtimes Inside The NFL program; and challenging a Detroit fan on Twitter to a boxing match for charity. Kromers leak cuts to one of Trestmans pillars, and that is building relationships based on trust. There appeared to be a breach even if Cutler insisted the offence came away from Mondays meeting in a better position. He owned up to it, Cutler said. He let everyone know, Hey, I made a mistake. This is where we stand. And this is where we need to move on to. I wish more guys were like that. He said the Bears have to continue on and that the offence will come together. But they have looked more like a broken bunch. The Bears have been hit hard by injuries, with Briggs, Charles Tillman and Marshall among the key players on injured reserve. Chicago joined the 1923 Rochester Jeffersons as the only teams to give up 50 or more points in consecutive games when it got pounded by New England and Green Bay. The struggles on defence and regression on offence have added up to the most disappointing season in recent memory. We know the (offensive) system works, Kromer said. It worked last year. And its worked in the past in places both myself and Marc have been. Question is: Who will be around to fix the Bears after this season? ___ AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China ' ' '

BEIJING -- The Chinese Basketball Association will restrict contracted NBA players from playing for domestic teams in the event the season is cancelled, but will still allow free agents, state media reported Friday. The CBA would bar players under contract such as Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. They and others had expressed interest in playing in China if the NBA lockout drags on and results in the cancellation of all or part of the 2011-12 season. The CBA said it will welcome free agent NBA players, but will require them to play an entire season in China, the Xinhua News Agency reported. Xinhua said more restrictions would be announced before the start of the Chinese season on Nov. 20. It reported contracts would be designed to discourage players from ducking out for dubious reasons such as suspect injuries or unverified family problems at home. CBA officials could not immediately be reached for comment. http://www.philliesbaseballshop.com/tim-mccarver-phillies-jersey/ . The Rockets were even more surprised that he achieved the feat coming off the bench. INDIANAPOLIS -- The Wizards were tired of getting shoved around in the Eastern Conference semifinals. So on Tuesday night, Marcin Gortat and his teammates pushed back hard. Gortat delivered the best playoff game of his career, 31 points and 16 rebounds, and John Wall scored a playoff-best 27 points as Washington routed the Indiana Pacers 102-79 to cut the Eastern Conference semifinals deficit to 3-2. "We dont have anything to lose now," Gortat said. "We play desperate. At the end of the day, we might lose. We have to play every minute of every game like its the last one of the season." The Wizards made a stunning turnaround after losing three straight, two on their home court in incredibly demoralizing fashion. Washington scored a franchise-low 63 points in Game 3 and then blew a 19-point, second-half lead in Game 4. Washington refused to let it happen again this time, earning a trip home for Game 6 on Thursday. The difference was obvious. Wall broke free, Gortat dominated the middle and the motivated Wizards were simply overwhelming inside with a 62-23 rebounding edge. Gortat produced more points and rebounds in 36 minutes than he had in the previous two games combined (six points and 13 rebounds). He was 13 of 15 from the field, 5 of 7 from the free-throw line, tied his career-best point total and finished with playoff career bests for points and rebounds. "I was a decoy in Game 3 and Game 4," the 30-year-old Polish native said. "(Tuesday) was the time for me to perform. At some point in the second half, it was just fun to be in the game." Wall seemed to enjoy himself, too. The much more aggressive point guard went 11 of 20 from the field and 3 of 6 on 3s, finishing with five rebounds, five assists and five turnovers as he sliced through the Pacers defence. "They didnt stop me from being aggressive on both ends," Wall said. "But the biggest thing was just the way we played in the third quarter. They outscored us by like 40 in the other four games, so the third quarter was big for us tonight." The 31-14 disparity during those 12 minutes completely changed the game, putting talk about the presumed conference finals rematch between Indiana and two-time defending NBA champ Miami temporarily on hoold.dddddddddddd One possible explanation for what happened to the Pacers was fatigue. Four of Indianas five starters played at least 39 minutes in Game 4. Coach Frank Vogel was concerned enough that he gave the Pacers a day off Monday. David West led Indiana with 17 points and six rebounds, but Paul George struggled after playing 46 minutes in Game 4. He was 5 of 15 from the field with 15 points, one rebound, two assists and four turnovers. But the problems went much deeper that weariness. West was only the starter to grab more than two rebounds, Washington held Indiana to 39 per cent shooting and they continually beat the Pacers to loose balls. This was not what Indiana expected. "We didnt show up to play. I dont know if we just thought we were going to come in here and these guys were going to roll over or what. They just played at a different level than we did all night," West said after Indianas second-worst home playoff loss in its NBA history. "Its a tough situation. We have to be able to handle these moments. We had no zip. We have to play. If we want this series, we have to take it." Washington was the team doing that Tuesday. The Wizards used a 15-6 run to close the half, turning a 32-30 deficit into a 45-38 lead. In the disastrous third quarter, Indiana was outrebounded 18-4 and the Wizards made them pay time after time. Washingtons 6-0 run extended the lead to 11, a 9-2 spurt pushed the margin to 60-45, and when the Wizards closed the third on a 10-3 charge, it was 76-52. Washington led by as much as 30 in the fourth, and the Pacers didnt even start cutting into the deficit until Vogel pulled his starters midway through the quarter. "Theyre not ready to go home," coach Randy Wittman said. "It said 3-1, which doesnt sound very good, but in our minds, were very close to it being something else. They dont want this (season) to end." Notes: Washington is 5-1 on the road and 1-3 at home in this years playoffs. ... Indianas worst home playoff loss came April 30, 2005 when Boston won 110-79. ... The Wizards have won two of their last three in Indy despite coming into the series with 12 consecutive losses at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. ... NEW YORK, N.Y. - After a three-day break, the New York Rangers kept on winning, while the New Jersey Devils remained on the skids even with a brand new coaching staff behind the bench.Derek Stepan led the way for the surging Rangers, who were powered to their eighth straight win by the young forwards third NHL hat trick. This is the Rangers longest winning streak in 40 years.Stepan scored a short-handed goal, one on a power play and another into an empty net to give New York a 3-1 win on Saturday night in goalie Henrik Lundqvists 600th game.I dont think we got it all the way back, Stepan said, but we found a way to win a hockey game. We were certainly close, so we just have to continue to work, continue to find that jump that got us the seven wins before the break.Lundqvist made 19 saves and faced his toughest tests in the third period when the Devils pressed for the tying goal. He held his ground, weathered a few crease pileups, and even stayed cool when he lost his stick at the side of the net.You try not to panic, Lundqvist said.Stepan netted an unassisted short-handed goal in the first period, and a power-play tally in the second for the Rangers (19-10-4), who have won 12 of 14 and earned at least one point in 22 of 29 (18-7-4).Stepans empty-netter with 54.6 seconds left clinched the victory. Following Rick Nashs effort Tuesday against Washington, the Rangers have back-to-back hat tricks for the first time since Jan. 31 and Feb. 2, 1994.I had some fortunate bounces, Stepan said. Hank made some big saves, and the defence really showed.Lundqvist, second to Mike Richter (666) in goalie games played with the Rangers, has a franchise record 325 wins. He tied his personal-best winning streak of seven games and became the ninth goalie to play 600 games with one team.He has won 32 of his 52 career games against the Devils, his most victories against any team, and allowed two goals or fewer in 38 of those appearances. The Rangers last won eight straight from Dec. 27, 1974-Jan. 11, 1975.We cant have a letdown, Lundqvist said. We have to continue here and push ourselves. When youre hot and youre on a roll, you want to try to cash in as much as possible.Steve Bernier scored a second-period goal, and Cory Schneider stopped 26 shots for New Jersey, Berniers first goal in 11 games had general manager Lou Lamoriello clapping on the bench. The Devils fared no better with their new coaching trio of Lamoriello, Scott Stevens (defence) and Adam Oates (forwards) that replaced Pete DeBoer, who was fired on Friday. It was interesting — watching, listening, and seeing what was transpiring, Lamoriello said. I thought it was extremely positive. The bench was extremely alive. We were not overly frustrated. There were some changes made within a 24-hour period, so we knew there would be a few breakdowns. Overall we have to build off what we saw,There will be no official head coach for the rest of the season. Lamoriello will stay on the bench to help with the transition. The Devils (12-18-7) began the night nine points out of the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It was an NHL-record 14th coaching change made by Lamoriello. The Devils were 3-8-5 in their final 16 games under DeBoer.New Jersey, which went 0 for 4 with the man advantage, played solid defence early and then fell behind while on its second power play.Stepan knocked the puck away from Travis Zajac near the blue line and nudged it ahead as Zajac fell. Stepan chased down the puck deep in the Devils end, shifted to his backhand, and pushed the puck back between Schneiders pads with 1:46 left in the first period. You knew they were going to come out with energy and try to forecheck, which they did, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. I thought we managed the first five minutes fairly well.Stepan made it 2-0 at 7:38 of the second when he deflected in Martin St. Louis drive during a power play.Special teams won us the game, Lundqvist said.New Jersey got back within one of a pretty play by defenceman Eric Gelinas, who faked a slap shot from above the left circle and deftly sent a pass down to Bernier at the bottom of the right circle for a shot that eluded Lundqvists outstretched glove.Gelinas nearly tied it with just over a minute left in the second, but his drive struck the left post.NOTES: Stepan has a five-game point streak (4 goals, 4 assists). ... LOUIS -- Tony La Russa will become the second retired manager to lead an all-star team next summer, joining Hall of Famer John McGraw. La Russa concluded a 16-season run in St. Louis with the teams second World Series title in five years last October, stepping down after 33 seasons overall. Commissioner Bud Selig announced Tuesday that the 67-year-old La Russa will manage the National League in this years game July 10 in Kansas City. "Tony earned this opportunity with the remarkable run the Cardinals completed last October, and I am delighted that he shared my enthusiasm about staying in this role," Selig said in a statement. "The all-star game celebrates all the best of our game, and it is very appropriate that we will have the chance to celebrate one of the greatest managerial careers of all-time as a part of our feestivities.dddddddddddd" McGraw retired after the 1932 season and managed the National League in the first All-Star game the following year. Danny Murtaugh managed the NL all-star team in 1972 after stepping down following Pittsburghs 1971 World Series title, but Major League Baseball doesnt consider him retired for that appearance because he returned to manage the Pirates from 1973-76. This will be La Russas sixth time managing an all-star team, three in each league. Two managers led all-star teams after moving to new teams, Dick Williams in 1974 after switching from the Athletics to the Angels and Dusty Baker in 2003 after switching from the Giants to the Cubs. La Russa and Joe Torre are tied for fourth with six All-Star managing appearances, trailing Casey Stengel (10), Walter Alston (9) and Joe McCarthy (7). TAMPA, Fla. - Steven Stamkos was a little upset at himself after not scoring a goal in the first two games of the season. He took out his frustration on the Montreal Canadiens.Stamkos scored three times, defenceman Victor Hedman had a career-high four points and the Tampa Bay Lightning routed the Canadiens 7-1 on Monday night. After Stamkos scored on a breakaway off a pass from deep in the defensive zone by Hedman at 13:15 of the second period, the Lightning captain completed the hat trick from the top of the right circle on Tampa Bays sixth power-play goal this season. That made it 4-1 with 1:46 left in the middle period.Ive learned over the years that you stick with it, usually the flood gates open, Stamkos said. The star forward took 12 shots on net.Obviously, he scored some goals out there tonight, Montreal defenceman P.K. Subban said. We know he can do that, but in the playoffs last year we were a lot better than we were tonight. Id tell Steven to enjoy it because the next time its not going to happen. It was the first game between the teams since Montreal completed a first-round playoff sweep last April.Heres what Im going to say about that, Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. Its Game 3 for us, Game 4 for them. If they said at the start of the road trip we were going to go out and get six of eight points, they would have been clicking their heels. For us, this was a must-win because their team has been on a roll since the start of the season. They were probably a little bit tired. But that team is going to be heard from this year. Thats a really good team.Hedman finished with a goal and three assists. Ryan Callahan, Ondrej Palat and Vladislav Namestnikov had the other Tampa Bay goals.Stamkos tied Martin St. Louis for the team record with eight career hat tricks.Brendan Gallagher scored for the Canadiens, who went 3-1 on a season-opening road trip.It was a bad game for all of us, coach Michel Therrien said. There was nothing good happening. As a coach you can feel at times the spirit, and tonight there was no spirit. We had a tough night.Montreal failed to score on four power plays, and is 0 for 14 with the man advantage this season.Hedman scored in his third consecutive game to put the Lightning up 1-0 with a backhander from the slot that eluded Carey Price 5:24 into the game. It is the defencemans longest career goal streak.Stamkos made it 2-0 on the power play at 9:51 of the first.Gallagher cut Montreals deficit to 2-1 on a nifty redirection with 7:44 left in the first. After Ben Bishop made the initial save, Lightning defenceman Anton Stralman slid through the crease to stop Jiri Sekacs rebound try early in the second.Price was pulled after allowing four goals on 23 shots through two periods.Callahan and Palat scored 17 seconds apart in the third against Dustin Tokarski. Too many on Clint Dempsey, says U.S. coach Juergen Klinsmann. But the league decided that Dempsey was the trouble-maker not the victim when it suspended the Seattle Sounders star striker two games Friday for "violent conduct" against Toronto FC defender Mark Bloom. The incident happened off the ball in the 40th minute of Torontos 2-1 win in Seattle last Saturday. Dempsey swung an arm and caught Bloom in the groin. The U.S. international was also fined an undisclosed amount. Klinsmann stepped in after the game, saying MLS has to offer key players like Dempsey more protection. "Obviously we are a little bit worried about Clint Dempsey getting fouled I dont know how many times in this game against Toronto," he said in a U.S. Soccer video. Toronto committed 25 fouls compared to 15 for Seattle. "Im hoping MLS is having an eye on that ... What I saw there on the weekend there were certain things not within the rules any more," Klinsmann added. "So I hope that our players in a certain way get a little bit of protection because they need to be healthy going into this World Cup." Seattle was also the victim of 25 fouls in its season-opening win over Sporting Kansas City. Asked about the Klinsmann comments on protecting stars, Toronto FC manager Ryan Nelsen stuck his tongue firmly in his cheek. "I 100 per cent agree with him," he said. "Jermain Defoe, Michael Bradley and Gilberto should be left alone, they shouldnt be allowed to tackle them." "I think theres a hidden agenda with Juergens comments," he added. Bradley, a veteran U.S. international whose father Bob Bradley used to coach the American national team, also downplayed the issue. "Its a physical league for sure but when youu look around the world, all the best games are physical," he said.dddddddddddd "Theyre hard, Teams compete at the highest level. For us, when we look back at last weekend, we feel like we played hard, we competed hard, we left everything we had on the field but in an honest, fair way. "And so I think, after the fact, for people to look and to start to talk about a play here, a play there, lets be honest, theres little plays like this that go in every game. And still when you look back at 90 minutes, I think the way that we were able to get after Seattle and make the game hard on them and really win the physical battles was something we want to take forward into this game (Saturday against D.C, United) as well." Seattle coach Sigi Schmid didnt offer much on the suspension in an interview posted on the club website. "It is what it is so we have to deal with it," he said. Dempsey is eligible to return for an April 5 road game in Portland. The MLS disciplinary committee also suspended Chicago Fire defender Lovel Palmer for two games and fined him an undisclosed amount for violent conduct toward Portland Timbers forward Maximiliano Urruti last weekend. Both Dempsey and Palmer submitted appeals that were turned down. Montreal Impact midfielder Justin Mapp was also fined an undisclosed amount for simulation in a game against the Houston Dynamo. New York Red Bulls defender Armando was banned one game and fined an undisclosed amount for serious foul play against Colorado Rapids forward Deshorn Brown. Prior to the start of the season, the leagues board of governors approved a policy stating that any player receiving a red card for violent conduct or adjudged unanimously by the discipline committee to be an unequivocal red card for violent conduct will be automatically suspended for at least two games and be fined. MANAUS, Brazil -- Mario Balotelli scored with a second-half header Saturday to give Italy a 2-1 win over England at the World Cup. The Italy striker was left free by his marker Gary Cahill and nodded a cross from Antonio Candreva past goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 50th minute. Claudio Marchisio scored first for Italy, sending a long shot through a crowded area and past a diving Hart in the 35th. Daniel Sturridge equalized for England two minutes later, tapping in a cross from Wayne Rooney. The win puts Italy in a strong position to qualify for the second round, and leaves England with plenty to do in its remaining two matches. In the other Group D match, Costa Rica beat Uruguay 3-1, giving the 2010 semifinalists a similarly difficult task to advance. Balotelli nearly scored another in first-half injury time, running deep into the area and enticing Hart to come off his line. The Italy striker stopped, looked toward goal and sent a chip over the keepers head -- only for Phil Jagielka to clear by heading the ball over the bar. Englands attack-minded lineup made frequent runs into the Italy area throughout the match, and came close to scoring several times. The best of the chances came in the 24th when Danny Welbeck sent the ball across the front of goal but Andrea Barzagli was able to slide in and tip the ball up in the air. Raheem Sterling, who had been running in from the left, jumped for the header but couldnt reach it, letting the ball go past him as he tumbled into the net. Italy played without the injured Gianluigi Buffon. The 36-year-old Italy goalkeeper, who can play in his fourth World Cup if he is able to recover from an ankle problem, was replaced by Salvatore Sirigu. The PSG keeper stepped up and made several good saves, but the best may have come in the 77th when he dived to his left to block a free kick from Leighton Baines. The match was played in the Amazonian city of Manaus, the most exotic of the 12 World Cup venues for this years tournament. According to FIFA, it was 30 degrees C (86 degrees F) with humidity at a relatively low 61 per cent for the match. While none of the players appeared to be affected by the heat, there was an injury on the England bench when team physio Gary Lewin dislocated his ankle while celebrating Sturridges goal. England and Italy were playing each other at the World Cup for only the second time. They also met in the third-place match at the 1990 World Cup, with the Italians also winning 2-1. Uomo Nike Roshe One DMB Scarpe Triple Nere . Stones three-point effort helped lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-3 victory against the Red Deer Rebels. Jordan Fransoo, Alessio Bertaggia and Darian Dziurzynski also scored for Brandon (19-12-2). Air Max 90 Outlet Italia . Toronto FC has rejected multiple transfer bids to send the striker back to the England, meaning the 31-year-old Defoe will finish the MLS season in Toronto. http://www.scarpenikeflyknit.it/superstar-supercolor/adidas-supercolor-blu.html . - The numbers keep climbing — and this time the rise was anything but gradual. Nike Air Max Thea Nere . Vargas (8-3) allowed four singles and two walks while striking out five, allowing only two runners from a diluted Twins lineup to reach second base. Mike Moustakas and Jarrod Dyson hit RBI singles in the second inning against Kevin Correia (4-10), and that was all Vargas needed. Nike Juvenate Olive . With Nadal and Ferrer focusing on the ATP season and Almagro injured, Moya has called on veterans Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez to team with debutants Roberto Bautista and David Marrero.PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Lengthy games dont bother Tony Sanchez. He played in the longest game in NCAA tournament history while at Boston College in 2009, the Eagles losing in 25 innings to Texas. So it was no big deal when the Pittsburgh Pirates rookie catcher was called on to pinch-hit in the 16th inning Wednesday night. "This was nothing compared to that," Sanchez said with a smile. The difference between the two is, this time, in a game that took 5 hours, 55 minutes, Sanchez singled in the winning run to give the Pirates a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs — the longest game in Pittsburgh history by time. Sanchezs hit came off Carlos Villanueva (0-2), ending the game just short of 1 a.m. and 6 minutes longer the Pirates 8-7, 18-inning victory over Houston on May 27, 2006, that took 5:49. "The few fans who stayed were really loud and that got the adrenaline flowing," Sanchez said. "It was a great to be in a situation where I had the chance to win a game for the first time in my career. I was getting a little nervous when I stepped up to the plate then I realized all I had to do was put the ball in play and find a hole." Villanueva also allowed Neil Walkers game-ending home run in the Pirates 1-0 win Monday in the season opener. The Cubs left 19 runners on Wednesday and have gone 1 for 27 with runners in scoring position in their first two games. Yet first-year manager Rick Renteria is remaining positive. "We did everything we could possibly do," Renteria said. "The guys kept coming back and thats a good sign for all of us. As long as we keep going out there and playing the way were playing right now, good things are bound to happen." Both teams scored in the 12th inning as the Cubs Anthony Rizzo hit a leadoff home run and the Pirates Starling Marte had an RBI single with two outs off closer Jose Veras. The Cubs ended a streak of 16 scoreless innings to start the season by scoring single runs in eighth and ninth inning to force extra iinnings.dddddddddddd Chicagos Emilio Bonifacio went 5 for 7 and is hitting .750 (9 for 12). Luis Valbuena added three hits, including a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning off closer Jason Grilli that tied the game at 2-2 and forced extra innings. Jordy Mercer opened the 16th with a bunt single but was forced out at second on Jose Tabatas sacrifice attempt. Starling Marte followed with a singled to put runners on corners before Sanchez, the rookie catcher and last position player left on the Pirates bench, grounded into left field for the walkoff hit. Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton pitched six scoreless inning but was denied the win when Grilli blew his first save opportunity of the season after converting 33 of 35 saves last year. Cubs starter Edwin Jackson allowed two runs, one earned, and two hits in 5 1-3 innings in his first start since going 8-18 last season and leading the major leagues in losses. The Cubs first run came when an umpires call was reversed by video replay. Nate Schierholtz appeared to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. However, Renteria asked for the call to be reviewed and it was ruled that Mercer, the shortstop, came off the second base bag while taking a throw from Walker, the second baseman, which made Rizzo safe at second base. Walker was charged with an error that enabled Bonifacio to score from third base. NOTES: Both benches were warned by home plate umpire Bob Davidson after Morton hit Rizzo to start the second inning. That came after Marte was hit by Jackson to lead off the bottom of the first. Though Rizzo was hit again in the eighth inning, Melancon was not ejected. ... RHP Jason Hammel, signed to a $6 million, one-year contract as a free agent in the off-season is scheduled to make his Cubs debut on Thursday afternoon when he faces LHP Wandy Rodriguez in the finale of the three-game series. Rodriguez did not pitch after June 5 last season because of elbow and forearm tightness. LOS ANGELES -- Portlands enormous fourth-quarter lead dwindled to a single point before the Trail Blazers finally figured out how hold off the Los Angeles Lakers patchwork lineup. Wesley Matthews thinks the harrowing experience will be good for the Blazers as they try to cement their spot among the NBAs elite. LaMarcus Aldridge had 27 points and nine rebounds, and Portland blew most of a 20-point lead before holding on to beat the Lakers 114-108 Sunday night. Damian Lillard had 26 points and nine assists, and Matthews scored 17 points for the Blazers, whose 11-game winning streak ended four days earlier in Phoenix. The Blazers tied their franchise record with 13 victories in November, and they opened December with an unlikely nail-biter, surviving despite blowing big leads in each half. "We shouldnt have had to do that," Matthews said. "Theres still a learning curve for us, but its a good sign if your lesson is you have to learn how to play with a lead. Its better than having to fight back." The Lakers would agree, even though their rally got Staples Center rocking. Xavier Henry scored a career-high 27 points and Jodie Meeks added 20 for Los Angeles, which had won five of six to climb above .500 despite injury woes. Portland led 94-74 entering the fourth, but promptly failed to score for nearly six minutes as the Lakers mounted a 24-5 run with a lineup featuring no point guard and energetic backup centre Robert Sacre, who had career highs of 12 points and seven rebounds. "We have guys down right now, but we cant do anything about that," said Henry, who surpassed his previous career high set earlier this season. "The guys we do have can still give any team a run for its money." Portland returned from its holiday break with its first road victory over the Lakers in seven tries since April 11, 2010, but only after a little drama. The Blazers blew a 17-point lead in the first half, but thought they had taken control with a 41-point third quarter -- their biggest period of the season. Los Angeles cut Portlands lead to 99-98 on Shawne Williams tip-in with 3:44 to play, but Lillard hit a 3-pointer with 2:54 left, and Matthews added another with 1:20 to play. Los Angeles kept it close, but the Blazers hit five of their six free throws in the final 23 seconds. "We need to stay consistent," Lillard said. "When things are going well, we tend to ease up instead of tightening up and putting teams away. Once teams get fired up and get back in the game, our intensity rises again. We have to find a way to keep it at that high level." The Lakers were left with only nine or 10 healthy players -- and one point guard -- when Jordan Farmar limped to the locker room in the first quarter, straining his left hamstring shortly after checking in to the game. Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash still havent returned to uniform, and centre Chris Kaman -- who recently recovered from a back injury -- dressed but didnt play. Pau Gasol, who missed Saturdays practice to deal with nagging injury issues, missed nine of his 10 shots in the first half before finishing with six points on 3-of-15 shooting. He plans to have an MRI on his sore ankle Monday. But the Lakers league-leading bench had another big game led by Henry, Sacre and Nick Young, who scored 17 points. "Thats what this team is all about -- you never know whos going to come out and produce," Sacre said. "Thats the whole essence of this team. Were all about one another, and we want each other to succeed." The Lakers hoped to play aggressively with the next four days off to rest, but instead got off to a horrific start. Portland took an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes as Los Angeles missed its first eight shots, stretching the margin to 21-4 before many fans had settled in their seats. Lakers coach Mike DAntoni yanked four of his starters, and they gradually got back in it with a tying 19-6 run capped by Meeks 3-pointer midway through the second quarter. Lillard scored 11 points in the third quarter as Portland made 17 of its 24 shots while taking command. Los Angeles then scored 10 straight points to open the fourth, and the Blazers didnt get a field goal until 5:31 remained. NOTES: Lillard converted a four-point play early in the second quarter, and Henry also did it midway through the fourth quarter. ... DAntoni said Nash will be at practice on Tuesday after a trip to Vancouver for further rehab on his nerve root irritation. Theres no timetable for the return of the two-time MVP point guard -- or Bryant, who also will be in practice this week. DAntoni declined to speculate whether Bryant could make his season debut when the Lakers visit Sacramento on Friday. ... Williams and Johnson both fouled out in the fourth quarter for Los Angeles. At UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany, in June 2009, the six-foot-11 Dutch heavyweight was gushing blood out of his forehead after taking a string of hammer blows from Denis Stojnic while on his back in the first round. Stojnics forearm looked as if it had been dipped in blood. But a bloody Struve rallied in the second round to take Stojnics back and choke him out. The German crowd roared as Struve, his face a crimson mask and long torso tinged red from blood, rose in victory. "Thats one hell of a Band-Aid," UFC president Dana White said dryly, referring to a plaster the size of a cigarette package on Struves forehead at the post-fight news conference. Struves size -- he is the tallest fighter in UFC history and is tied for longest reach with light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones -- combined with slick kickboxing and submission skills have helped him rise up the heavyweight ranks while compiling a 9-4 record in the UFC. But his career appeared over last year when he was diagnosed with a rare heart condition. Given the OK to resume fighting by his doctors in the Netherlands and the UFCs cardiologist, Struve (29-6) returns to the cage Saturday when he takes on Matt Mitrione at UFC 175 in Las Vegas. "It looks good," Struve, who divides his training between the Netherlands and Los Angeles. "I just need to do checkups two times a year with my doctors in Holland and two times a year with my doctors in LA. "Thats no problem for me. I actually like that I know for sure that my heart is healthy." Mitrione (7-3) is a former NFL defensive lineman who switched to MMA via Season 10 of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality TV show in 2009. Struve, ranked 12th among heavyweight contenders, last fought in March 2013 when he suffered a broken jaw in a knockout loss to hard-hitting Mark Hunt in Japan. Struve says he had been sick for six weeks before the bout and was still under the weather during the fight. "I felt horrible." And he just couldnt recover after. "I just couldnt get over the jet lag. I couldnt sleep at night," he said. "I just didnt feel good and I didnt have any energy." He returned to full training some three months after the loss. Then one day at his parents house, he got dizzy standing up after working at the computer. He sat down and blacked out briefly, "which scared me because I had nevver had that.dddddddddddd" He went to the hospital, which couldnt find anything but asked him to come back for a stress ultrasound test which uses high frequency sound waves to examine the hearts anatomy and function. "Thats where they found it," he said. Struve was diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve, as well an enlarged heart. It meant that his heart was only pumping 60 per cent of his blood into the aorta and then the rest of his body. The remaining 40 per cent was ending up back in the heart chamber. Doctors used medication to control his blood pressure and the demands on his heart. Struve says he will probably have to undergo surgery at some point but hopes to do it after his fighting career. "As it is right now, its getting better every day," he said. He kept training throughout, raising his regimen as his health improved. He also taught MMA, which he said he enjoyed immensely. "I just enjoy being healthy and living a good life," he said. "I love this sport." MMA takes a toll, however. While Struve puts on exciting fights, he has endured punishing knockouts losses at the hands of Junior Dos Santos, Roy (Big Country) Nelson, Travis Browne and Hunt. The big Dutchman says he feels a lot more energy these days. "And a lot more joy in life, if you want to say so, because if you feel tied all day long, youre just miserable." But Struve says he may have taken time off from fighting even if it hadnt had the heart scare. He had plenty on his mind. "This was by far the hardest year of my life," he added. "Not only because of this but my father passed away in October after being sick for a year and a half. And then there were some other things that happened close to me that really impacted me." Back training, his performance in the gym gives him confidence that ring rust wont be an issue Saturday night. While Struve says he has got on well with Mitrione in the past, he says its a "little strange" the American asked for the fight before he was cleared to compete again. Middleweight champion Chris Weidman defends his title against former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida -- ranked No. 3 among 185-pound contenders -- in the main event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Alabama star quarterback A.J. McCarron signed Thursday with the Cincinnati Bengals. A fifth-round selection, McCarron led the Crimson Tide to two national championships, setting several school passing records. But his arm strength was questioned by many pro teams, and he slid to 164th overall in the draft. McCarron will be a backup to four-year veteran Andy Dalton, who has gotten Cincinnati to the playoffs in each of his three pro seasons. But the Bengals are 0-3 in post-season games with Dalton. After being drafted, McCarron said: "Im confident in myself but at the same time, I know Andys the QB out there and I respect that." Cincinnati also signed cornerback Lavelle Westbrooks, a seventh-round pick out of Georgia Southern. The Bengals have signed four of their eight draft selections. Lions signed defensive back Ryan Phillips to a contract extension that will keep him with the CFL club through the 2016 season. The nine-year veteran was a CFL all-star last year after recording 36 tackles and two interceptions over 18 regular-season games. "Ryan is one of the veteran players that were counting on to show our defence and our team the kind of commitment, teamwork and selflessness its going to take to be a champion," Lions GM Wally Buono said in a statement. "As a four-time CFL all-star, including last season, Ryan continues to play at a very high level and I believe his greatest season is yet to come." The Seattle native hasnt missed a regular-season game since entering the league in 2005. His mark of 162 consecutive games played is the longest active streak in the CFL. "I cannot say enough about Ryans leadership and accomplishments during his time as a Lion," said head coach Mike Benevides. "Hes been with us for the better parrt of a decade and we will be leaning on him not only as a key component of our defence, but also as part of our core leadership group.ddddddddddddquot; Phillips has appeared in 13 playoff games and won Grey Cups with the Lions in 2006 and 2011. "Signing this extension is very satisfying for me for a number of reasons," Phillips said. "Having an opportunity to play in front of my friends and family is very important to me and Im grateful to the Lions for making that happen for years to come. "Im also honoured to play alongside some of the best defensive players in the CFL such as Dante Marsh, Cord Parks, Adam Bighill and Solomon Elimimian. We have a great team here and more specifically we have great defensive players that are not concerned with personal recognition but instead, simply winning championships." CHICAGO -- Chase Utley stuck it to the Cubs again. Its just what he does to teams when hes healthy and hitting. Utley went 3-for-3 and homered for the second day in a row, and Cliff Lee pitched seven scoreless innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. "He looks good," Sandberg said. "Hes feeling good, hes in great shape and hes producing quality at-bats right now. Hes very healthy and he looks good." Dominic Brown drove in Utley for the Phillies other run with a single in the fourth inning. Lee (2-0) allowed 10 hits and had just one 1-2-3 inning. But it never felt as if he was in trouble. He worked on the edges of both sides of the plate and kept the Cubs hitters off balance. Four of his six strikeouts were called third strikes. "I still had to battle a little bit," said Lee, who won his first start of the season despite allowing eight runs in five innings. "They got their fair share of hits, but I was able to make pitches when I needed to. "Seven innings, no runs, Ill take that every time." The Cubs wasted another strong start from Jeff Samardzija (0-1), who allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings. He walked three and struck out eight. In his two starts, the right-hander has a 1.29 ERA with nothing to show for it, but said hes confident the offence will come around. "Absolutely," he said. "I see these guys working every day; I know what theyre doing. If it were a different situation, if I thought these guys were being lazy or this or that, obviously itd be different. But these guys come to work every day, doing everything we can. "Its early in the season, were going to keep going, keep pushing and figure this out." Utley ensured that Lee would take the mound with a lead when he cranked a 1-1 fastball from Samardzija into the right-field bleachers for a two-out solo home run in the top of the first inning. It was Utleys second homer of the season. Utley then led off the fourth with a walk, took second on a single by Ryan Howard and scored on a single by Brown to make it 2-0. Utley, who has been bothered by knee problems in recent years, showed how healthy hes feeling on the play. Browns hit was a liner to left-centre. Utley got a quick read on the ball and raced around third to score without a play. With Lee painting the corners, the two-run advantage seemed huge. The Cubs managed two hits in each the first, third and seventh innings, but couldnt produce a big hit break through - just like things have gone so far this season. NOTES: The Cubs confirmed that RHP Carlos Villanueva will make his scheduled start in Sundays series finale. Villanuevas status was in question because he used in relief twice during the opening series in Pittsburgh. He was losing pitcher in both, meaning hell take the mound for his first start with a 0-2 record and a 13.50 ERA. A.J. Burnett (0-0, 1.50) will start for the Phillies. The veteran RHP allowed one run in six innings in his first start of the season. . Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins was back in the lineup after missing the previous two games when he returned to Philadelphia for the birth of his second child, a daughter named Logan Aliya. . Utleys double in the eighth inning was the 300th of his career, which is eighth on the Phillies all-time list. It left the coach in a jovial mood, even though the comeback probably wont be enough to save his job.I think we all expect whats going to happen is going to happen, Ryan said. Im not afraid of what lies ahead, I can tell you that.Smith had his best game in a rocky season, throwing for a career-high 358 yards and three touchdowns. That more than negated a 97-yard run by Lamar Miller, the longest play from scrimmage in Dolphins history. The game was entertaining but mostly meaningless because it involved two teams out of the playoff chase. And with the Jets sitting out the post-season for the fourth consecutive year, owner Woody Johnson is widely expected to fire Ryan, and perhaps general manager John Idzik. The Jets (4-12) finished with their worst record since 2007.This is a great team — just, we havent had a great record, Ryan said. But as far as how you build a team, its there.Ryan is 46-50 in six seasons — not including 4-2 in the post-season — but remains popular with his players, and they dumped a bucket of sports drink on him when the game ended. We love coach Ryan, Smith said. Id love to play for him my entire career.Ryan continually tried to deflect postgame questions about his future, saying Johnson will talk to him at the appropriate time. They met briefly after the game.I said, Hey, boss, Im going to give the whole team a game ball. Sorry. And thats exactly what we did. Hes good with it, Ryan said. The Dolphins (8-8) missed a shot at their first winning season since 2008, which is the last time they made the playoffs. Owner Stephen Ross has said coach Joe Philbin will be back for a fourth season in 2015, and hell have disharmony to address after benching star receiver Mike Wallace for the entire second half.Wallace was punished for arguing with the coaching staff at halftime. He declined to talk to reporters after the game, and instead had teammate Brandon Gibson speak on his behalf, which made for a bizarre scene as they stood side by side at their lockers. Why was Gibson doing the talking?I just dont wwant my dog to say anything wrong, Gibson said.ddddddddddddDifferences in opinion led to Mike not playing in the second half, so thats what were going to say about coaches. ... Things that were communicated probably were misunderstood. The half-empty stadium and also-ran status of the teams created the atmosphere of an exhibition game, and with the stakes modest, Ryan threw in an occasional frill. The Jets ran a reverse out of the wildcat, with receiver Jeremy Kerley throwing incomplete to Smith. The fake punt came when New York clung to a 27-24 lead. Punter Ryan Quigley lobbed a 38-yard pass to tight end Zach Sudfeld on fourth-and-12.Somebody had the guts to call it, Ryan said. I dont know who, but hes probably standing in front of you.On the next play, Smith hit Jeff Cumberland with a 23-yard pass for the clinching touchdown.New York came in ranked last in the NFL in passing, but Smith went 20 of 25 and had a passer rating of 158.3 — the only perfect rating this year by a quarterback throwing at least seven passes, according to STATS. The South Florida native helped the Jets achieve a season-high points total.Even so, the game might have been Smiths final start for the Jets. Theyre expected to seek quarterback help in the draft or free agency.I have complete confidence in myself, Smith said, but consistency is the thing that Im searching for and Im getting better with.Eric Decker caught 10 passes for a career-high 221 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown, the longest play by the Jets this year. David Harris had 2 1/2 of the Jets seven sacks of Ryan Tannehill.Miller ran for a career-high 178 yards and reached the 1,000-yard milestone for the first time. His touchdown was the longest run allowed by the Jets, and the longest play from scrimmage in the NFL this season.NOTES: Jets DT Sheldon Richardson left the game in the second quarter with a head injury and didnt return. CHICAGO -- The Blackhawks top line of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa is proving to be quite a challenge for the rest of the NHL these days. Just ask the Winnipeg Jets. Toews scored in the first period and Sharp had a goal and an assist, leading the Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over the Jets on Wednesday night. "Weve had a couple games where we didnt click as much as we want to, but I think we got back to where we support each other, being in the right areas, and you saw the chances we got," Toews said. "The more we do that, the more chances we get to score." Fellow Winnipeg native Duncan Keith added two assists in Chicagos fourth win in five games. Patrick Kane scored in the final seconds of the first period and Brandon Pirri added his third of the season on a breakaway in the second. Sharp also scored in his hometown of Winnipeg during Saturdays 5-1 win. Toews is tied with Kane for the team lead with 14 points, and Sharp has three multipoint games this season. "Three players that want to hold onto the puck and make plays," Sharp said, explaining the recent success of his line. "You dont see anybody trying to beat people 1-on-1. Its getting goals by moving the puck back and forth, and all three guys like to score." Winnipeg forward Michael Frolik received a standing ovation when he was recognized during a break in the first period in his first game in Chicago since he helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in June. Frolik, who played a pivotal role on Chicagos penalty-kill unit last season, was traded to the Jets for draft picks at the beginning of the off-season. Frolik stood in front of the Winnipeg bench and waved as the crowd cheered after the Blackhawks showed some of his highlights from his time in Chicago. "It was awesome. The fans are great here," Frolik said. "Theyre one of the best in the league and I really appreciate what they did. Its something very special and will never forget it." With the game in hand with 6:22 left in the third, Blackhawks forward Brandon Bollig got a big cheer from the sellout crowd when he drove Jets defenceman Adam Pardy through a glass panel in Winnipegs end of the ice. Pardy then was leaning over the boards and into the crowd when a fan took his helmet off and put it on. A woman also dumped her beer on Pardy before the officials were able to break up the scrum. "I dont know what happened to my stick, either. It got lost in the crowd somewhere, too," Pardy said. "Just a little insult to the injury, I guess. It was a tough night for all of us. "It was tough enough to get put through the glass, but then to get a beer thrown on my head, too, it wasnt a good thing." Devin Setoguchi scored his third goal for the Jets in the third period of his 400th career game. Al Montoya had 24 stops in his second career game in his native Chicago. The Blackhawks grabbed control at the end of the first, jumping ahead 2-0 in a span of 2:25 while bouncing back from Sundays 3-2 overtime loss to Calgary. Toews provided a spark when he set up Kane with a nice spinning pass on a 2-on-1. Kane was stopped by Montoya, but Toews skated around to the front of the net, got a pass from Sharp and stuffed it home at 17:29. Kane then skated through much of Winnipegs end before beating Montoya with a wrist shot for his team-best ninth goal of the season with 6 seconds left in the first. Kane also had a dizzying skating stretch in the second that led to a tripping penalty on Jets forward Eric Tangradi. "He had a couple of shifts when he was putting on a show," Toews said. "That was old-fashioned Kaner there. When he gets it going -- I think that one play when he drew the penalty, it was pretty fun to watch." Sharp made it 4-0 when he beat Montoya on the glove side at 4:00 in the third period. Crawford was working on his first shutout of the season before Setoguchi scored on a rebound at 8:40 of the third. Former Blackhawks defenceman Dustin Byfuglien got an assist on the play. "I thought the game was pretty much what we anticipated," Winnipeg coach Claude Noel said. "Thats a team that can really hurt you, and we made some of the mistakes we made the previous time we played these guys." NOTES: Jets LW Evander Kane missed his second straight game with an unspecified injury. D Zach Redmond also was scratched. ... Fs Michal Handzus, Jeremy Morin and Brad Mills were scratched for the Blackhawks. Handzus has missed six straight games with an upper-body injury. ... Spring training officially began Thursday when Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers reported, with their first workout set for Friday. On the other side of suburban Phoenix, in Glendale, Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers and catchers report on Saturday. Full-squad workouts for both teams begin next week. The Diamondbacks and Dodgers get an early start because they will open the MLB season with a two-game series in Australia on March 22-23. The rest of the teams begin workouts next week at their spring training haunts in Arizona and Florida. Arizonas reporting date signals the beginning of preparation for a season that wont end until the World Series eight months from now. The Diamondbacks are coming off consecutive 81-81 seasons and face the prospect, like the rest of the NL West, of trying to compete with the cash- and pitching-rich Dodgers. Arizona wanted to add a veteran starter in the off-season and still may. A person with knowledge of the situation said Thursday that the Diamondbacks were talking with representatives of Bronson Arroyo with the possibility of landing the 36-year-old right-hander. The person asked not to be identified because the talks had not been made public. The Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles also reportedly have interest in Arroyo. If no changes are made, the Diamondbacks rotation is expected to include left-handers Patrick Corbin and Wade Miley and right-handers Trevor Cahill and Brandon McCarthy. Young right-hander Randall Delgado and top minor league prospect Archie Bradley could vie for the other rotation spot. Diamondbacks players went through informal workouts in relatively chilly weather, at least by Arizona standards, on Thursday. Temperatures were in the low 60s but were expected to rise to the high 70s over the weekend. Kirk Gibson is entering his fourth season as manager and earlier this week got an extension of his contract, which had been set to expire this year. He said the early start to spring training will mean a larger gap between the start of full-squad workouts and the beginning of spring gammes.dddddddddddd "Well come in on the 11th and our first games on the 26th," he said. "It gives us a challenge. We need to get our pitchers ready to be ready to go on March 22." After the long trip to Australia, the Diamondbacks and Dodgers will come back to Arizona to complete spring training before their stateside regular-season openers. "The seasons going to be a little longer, " Gibson said, "but if you look at the other people that have played abroad early, I think theres 10 teams that went and five of them have went to post-season play." Even though its an early start to spring training, McCarthy said players are more than ready to get back at it. "In the last month is when you start to hit that boredom point," he said. "Youre done with the off-season, youre sick of your loved ones, you want to get out of your house. Now it turns real and you kind of get back to work." The other significant addition to the Diamondbacks pitching staff is Addison Reed, The 25-year-old right-hander had 69 saves the last two seasons with the Chicago White Sox, 40 last year. Arizona acquired him from the White Sox for third baseman Matt Davidson. Reed hasnt been anointed the Arizona closer yet, though, facing competition from the likes of J.J. Putz, David Hernandez and Brad Zeigler. "Obviously everybody knows that I want to close. Its the only thing Ive ever wanted to do," Reed said, "but Im here and whatever they have me do is what Ill do and Ill be happy to. As long as Im out there throwing, Ill be a happy guy." McCarthy said that a core group of Arizona players plans to take a bigger leadership role in the coming year. "I think theres a group of guys here that know exactly what they want," he said. "Last year I think we were kind of getting there but we didnt have that true leadership that really came through. Its the one thing Ive seen just in talking to guys so far, that heres an idea of exactly what we want and I think we know how to implement that now. "Youre going to see a clubhouse of guys that go out of their way to get things the way they want it, to set an attitude the way they want it." SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- From the moment Phil Mickelson set foot at TPC Scottsdale early Thursday morning, it was clear that the back pain that sidelined him last weekend was gone. It also was quickly evident that his game was a little off. "My back is fine. My game was a little rusty," Mickelson said after opening his Phoenix Open title defence with an even-par 71. After effortlessly hitting his opening drive 300 yards down the middle on the par-4 10th, Mickelson dumped a 90-yard wedge shot into the left greenside bunker. He blasted 10 feet past the hole and sighed in relief when his par putt slid in. A few minutes later on the par-3 12th, Mickelson found the water hazard along the right side of the green. His chip from the fringe stopped about 15 feet short and he two-putted for a double bogey. He three-putted twice, once for par and another for bogey. "I threw away a lot of shots," Mickelson said. "I made some careless swings. Hitting it in the water on 12 was just pathetic." He was seven strokes behind leaders Bubba Watson and Y.E. Yang. "I got off to a poor start, played a couple over, and finished poorly," Mickelson said. "In the middle of the round, though, I hit a lot of good shots and had a good little run, but it just wasnt quite sharp. I wasnt quite focused on every shot the way I need to be and let way too many shots slide." Mickelson first felt soreness in his back two weeks ago in Abu Dhabi, and pulled out of his hometown event in San Diego after making the 36-hole cut at Torrey Pines. He flew to Georgia to see back specialist Tom Boers and was told his facet joints locked up. "Its fine. Honestly, its no big deal," Mickelson said. "It was a five-minute fix. I just have to be careful for a week or two as it heals up. Its fine. Mobility is back. Its just not a big deal. ... It happens every now and then. Last time was about four years ago." After the double bogey on 12, he rebounded with 20-foot birdie putts on the next two holes, but three-putted for par on the par-5 15th after hitting a hybrid pin-high from 245 yards. "Fifteen really stung," Mickelson said. "It was only a 12- or 15-footer, and I am thinking eagle. I roll it 6 feet by and I miss it coming back. That was costly. Mickelson got to 3 under with birdies on Nos. 17, 1 and 4, then bogeyed three of his last five holes. He three-putted the par-4 fifth -- missing from 5 1/2 and 3 1/2 feet -- and failed to get-up-down for par after finding greenside bunkers on Nos. 7 and 9. "Playing the last five holes at 3 over ... that was really bad," Mickelson said. He hit five of 14 fairways, 11 greens in regulation and had 30 putts. "I wasnt as sharp as I need to be, for sure," Mickelson said. In his victory last year, he opened with a 60 -- lipping out a birdie putt on the final hole -- and matched the tournament record at 28-under 256. The 43-year-old former Arizona State star is making his 25th appearance in the event that he also won in 1996 and 2005. "Its fun to be back here," Mickelson said. "I love playing here." Watson and Yang shot 64. Watson birdied four of the final six holes. The 2012 Masters champion had eight birdies and a bogey in the afternoon session. "This golf course, if your ball-striking is good, you can shoot some good numbers here," Watson said after hitting 17 greens in regulation. "Hit a lot of greens, didnt make too many mistakes, didnt miss too many fairways. Just played solid." Yang birdied the final two holes. The 2009 PGA winner also had eight birdies and a bogey, playing the back nine in 6-under 30 in his morning round. "I think you have to be aggressive," the South Korean player said through a translator. "At the same time, you cant be too aggressive. ... You have to really balance it out, but you still have to be a little bit more aggressive than other tournaments." Scottsdale residents Pat Perez, Kevin Stadler and Matt Jones were a stroke back at 65 along with Harris English, William McGirt, Greg Chalmers and Chris Kirk. English birdied Nos. 12-15 to top the leaderboard at 8 under, but bogeyed the par-3 16th -- the rowdy stadium hole -- and the par-4 18th. He hit an 8-iron over the green on the 178-yard 16th. "I guess I was a little juiced up on that tee," English said. "I left myself with an impossible up-and-down." Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., fired a 4-under 67. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., is another shot back at 68. Amateur Ki Taek Lee of Vancouver shot a 2-over 74. Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., carded a 75, and Calgarys Stephen Ames had a 76.. The crowd was estimated at 88,113, a record for the first round. Winslow, the teams leading receiver with 17 catches, is immediately beginning his suspension, meaning he will sit out the Jets game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. "It came as a huge surprise to me when I learned that I tested positive for a banned substance," Winslow said in a statement issued by his publicist. "I have investigated all possible sources since learning of the positive test, including possible medical causes, but frustratingly, I do not know the source. "I do not take supplements that list any banned ingredients, but the NFL policy is very strict, so I am accountable for the results." He will be eligible to return to the Jets active roster on Nov. 4, following New Yorks game against New Orleans on Nov. 3. The Jets have a bye-week break after they play the Saints, so Winslows next opportunity to play would be on Nov. 17 at Buffalo. "I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches and Jets fans for this situation," Winslow said. "I will work extremely hard during this time away from the field and look forward to contributing to the team as soon as the suspension ends." Winslow had been listed as doubtful on the Jets injury report on Friday, and coach Rex Ryan excused him from participating in practice but declined to go into details. "Id rather not get into it," Ryan said. "I excused him. Ill just say that." The 30-year-old Winslow, in his first year with the Jets, has been dealing with a balky right knee all season that kept him out of practice all week. He hasnt missed any games, though, and had two touchdown catches, including one in New Yorks 30-28 victory at Atlanta on Monday night. But he didnt speak to reporters after the win, and uncharacteristically chose to not speak in the locker room after practice all week. That led to speculation that perhaaps he was unhappy with his role in the offence.dddddddddddd Last season, Winslow played in just one game with New England before asking to be released because he anticipated a lack of playing time behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Ryan said on Friday that he hadnt been approached by Winslow about his role, which is the No. 2 tight end behind Jeff Cumberland. He was unsure, however, if Winslow had spoken to offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinweg. "We have to look at it this way: We have a really good tight end in Jeff Cumberland, and this is a guy whos a young stud tight end," Ryan said. "You look at him, hes a big guy, can block and he does a nice job receiving. Hes a good player." Before the suspension was announced, Ryan was asked if he expected Winslow to remain with the team, and the coach answered simply, "Yes." Ryan was then asked if he thought Winslow might not want to remain with the team. "I think youd have to ask him those types of questions," Ryan said. "What I can tell you about Kellen is hes done a tremendous job here and a guy, and I laughed about it, I said hes a warrior. He wasnt lying when he said that. We got the video out of it. But thats him: a great competitor. "Thats what hes brought here." It is likely that tight end Zach Sudfeld, claimed off waivers from New England last week, will make his debut with the Jets on Sunday with Winslow out. Along with Cumberland, New York also has Konrad Reuland on the roster at the position. Since Winslow will be placed on the suspended list, the Jets will have an open spot on their 53-man roster. Winslow was offered a tryout by the Jets in minicamp in June, and signed him a few days later. The former Pro Bowl tight end had a terrific debut, catching a team-leading seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. He is only two years removed from catching 75 passes for Tampa Bay in 2011, but his surgically repaired right knee made him a low-risk, high-reward option for the Jets. Juventus eased to a 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Chievo Verona in Serie A as its remarkable home record continued on Sunday. Juventus, which has now won all 12 of its home league matches this season, remained nine points clear of Roma, which beat Sampdoria 3-0 in the days late kickoff and has a game in hand. It was coach Antonio Contes 100th match in charge. Kwadwo Asamoah, Claudio Marchisio and Fernando Llorente scored for Juventus, which conceded a comical own goal. "Its tough to be aggressive for the entire 95 minutes," Conte said. "But we cant allow ourselves to let up during this particular period. The minute our attention levels drop for a second, everything happens. "Its not easy for anyone to win for three years in a row, but these lads are doing just that. Everyone has surprised me in a positive manner, and I hope they keep doing so." Napoli remained four points behind Roma after beating lowly Sassuolo 2-0. "We created several chances to score, I cant be anything other than happy," Napoli coach Rafa Benitez said. "I never talk about individuals, but I see (Marek) Hamsik is improving game after game." Earlier, Catania pulled off a surprise 3-1 victory over Lazio to move off bottom spot. Also, it was: Genoa 3, Udinese 3; Atalanta 0, Parma 4; and Cagliari 1, Livorno 2. Juventus took the lead in the 18th minute when Asamoah curled a powerful effort into the far side of goal from just outside the area. The Serie A leader doubled its advantage 11 minutes later. Chievo goalkeeper Michael Agazzi did well to parry Andrea Pirlos free kick but Marchisio was on hand to net the rebound. Juventus had squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at promoted Hellas Verona last week and it risked falling foul of another Verona team after a sluggish start to the second half. Chievo pulled one back six minutes after the break as Stephan Lichtsteiners attempted clearance ricocheted off teammate Martin Caceres and into the back of the net. However, Llorente sealed the match in the 58th when he headed home Pirlos corner. Juventus has scored three or more goals in all but one of its past nine home matches. Roma kept up the pressure on Juventus with a comfortable victory in the evening match. Two sections of the Stadio Olimpico were closed in the first of a two-match punishment following anti-Neapolitan chants by Romas fans during an Italian Cup match earlier in the month. Mattia Destro scored twice, either side of Miralem Pjanics stunning 30-meter free kick. With his side three goals down, Sampdoria defender Daniele Gastaldello was sent off 10 minutes from time after a second booking. Napoli maintained its bid for a Champions League berth with a comfortable win at Sassuolo. Blerim Dzemaili broke the deadlock in the 37th minute after a series of fine saves from Sassuolo goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo. Lorenzo Insigne scored 10 minutes after halftime when he raced into the area and curled a shot into the far right of goal. Dzemaili also hit the crossbar late on. It was coach Francesco Guidolins 172nd Serie A game in charge of Udinese, matching the club record set by Giuseppe Bigogno, and he looked set to celebrate with victory after two goals in quick succession from Dusan Basta and Bruno Fernandes Moussa Konate reduced the deficit on the stroke of halftime but Udinese restored its two-goal advantage immediately after the break when Nicolas Burdisso tugged Thomas Heurtauxs shirt in the box and Luis Muriel converted the resulting penalty. A brace from Alberto Gilardino saw Genoa rescue a point. Catania had won only one of its previous 12 matches and started the day bottom of the table. However, it got off to the best possible start when Mariano Izco volleyed in off the inside of the right post after just 41 seconds. Stefano Mauri was making his first start since May following a ban for his role in a match-fixing scandal. The Lazio captain headed his team level in first-half stoppage time. Nicolas Spolli headed Catania back in front immediately after halftime and Gino Peruzzi sealed the result in the 58th minute. The relegation battle between Cagliari and Livorno burst into life a minute before halftime with a stunning strike from Emerson which swerved into the top corner from 40 metres. Tempers flared towards the end and Cagliari captain Daniele Conti was sent off for insulting the referee. Livorno ended the match in nine men after Federico Ceccherini was dismissed for two yellow cards and Marco Benassi saw red for a poor challenge on Mauricio Pinilla. Adidas Superstar 80s Metal Toe . They won, and thats all that mattered to the veteran club. Tim Duncan had 29 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, and San Antonio overcame a fourth-quarter collapse to beat the Denver Nuggets 108-103 Wednesday night for its 15th straight victory. Tiago Splitter, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili had 10 points apiece for the Spurs (55-16), who have the leagues best record. "They made it competitive," Parker said. "They played with a lot of energy. We missed a lot of little stuff; easy layups that we always make and they got back in the game. It happens sometimes. Were not going to beat everybody by 20." It just seemed like they were after overwhelming the Nuggets in the first half. Danny Greens 3-pointer at the buzzer was his fifth of the half, giving San Antonio its largest lead of opening 24 minutes at 63-43. Green scored 16 points, all in the first half, before leaving with a foot injury early in the second. His status is unknown, but he wore a walking boot as a precaution after the game and will have an MRI on Thursday morning. "All of a sudden he couldnt walk," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "The bottom of the foot, there is something. They are going to X-ray it. I am just guessing it is plantar fasciitis or something like that." San Antonio had 19 assists while going 24 for 42 from the field and forcing nine turnovers in the first half. "We were getting embarrassed in the first half," Denver forward Darrell Arthur said. "I was upset. I had words with some of the guys in the locker room." Aaron Brooks scored 25 points and Kenneth Faried had 24 points, including 15 points in a frenzied final quarter for the Nuggets. Denver went on a 34-20 run in the final 11 minutes. "We played a good half, we played a bad half," Popovich said. "The NBA is a 48-minute game and youve got to keep playing." After leading by as many as 24 points and by 20 midway through the third quarter, San Antonio needed Duncans late heroics to preserve its win streak.dddddddddddd Duncan scored all but one of the Spurs final 11 points, capping his performance with an off-balance jumper off the glass for a 107-99 lead with 30 seconds remaining. The heavily contested shot sealed the win and led Nuggets coach Brian Shaw to turn and smile at Popovich, who shook his head as well. "(Duncan) played a great all-around game," Popovich said. "Probably nobody noticed, but it was assists, boards, scoring — he was the guy that kept it together." Duncan finished the game 12 for 20, including going 4 for 5 in the final five minutes on a series of layups and jumpers. It seemed like it was going to be an early night for Duncan and San Antonios veterans after the team rolled to a sizeable early lead. The Nuggets opened at a frenetic pace and the Spurs were more than willing to play along. The teams combined for 24 shots in the opening six minutes. Green and Kawhi Leonard benefited the most from the fast start, going a combined 4 for 5 on 3-pointers. Leonard got the Spurs started by swatting Farieds jumper from behind off the opening tip and then hitting a 3-pointer and 19-footer to give San Antonio a 7-4 lead. Green then hit three consecutive 3-pointers to extend the advantage to 16-10 with 8 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Green ended the run by draining a closely contested 3 on Randy Foye after screaming for the ball as Duncan brought it up court off a rebound. "We fell asleep," Brooks said. "They got a lot of backdoors in the first half. We fell asleep on a lot of plays and allowed them to run their offence, and I think in the second half we pressured a little bit more." NOTES: Spurs F Austin Daye has become an overnight fan favourite, receiving an ovation second only to Ginobilis upon entering with 29.5 seconds remaining in the first quarter. After averaging just 2.3 minutes in four games since being acquired from Toronto, Daye scored a game-high 22 points in 29 minutes in a 113-91 victory over Philadelphia on Monday. ... After averaging just 2.3 minutes in four games since being acquired from Toronto, Daye scored a game-high 22 points in 29 minutes in a 113-91 victory over Philadelphia on Monday. ... Spurs F Matt Bonner (right calf strain) missed his second straight game and his ninth due to injury this season. The Senators, who are 6-6-1 as the guest, defeated the Jets, 6-4, as Zack Smith scored the game- winner late in the third period. Ottawa will complete its trek Saturday in Washington. Tuesdays contest featured four lead changes and the Sens allowed Evander Kane to score two goals in the first 2:41 of the third period to give the Jets a 4-3 lead. Ottawa then scored three unanswered goals to skate away with the win. Smith and Milan Michalek both had two goals for Ottawa, while Jason Spezza and Nick Foligno also lit the lamp in the clubs second straight win. Craig Anderson gave up four goals on 43 shots to help the Sens improve to 5-1-1 in their last seven trips to the ice. Senators forward Nikita Filatov, who has just one assist in eight games this year, suffered a broken nose when he was accidentally kicked in the face by the skate of Winnipegs Eric Fehr. Filatov is questionable for this evenings game, as is Ottawa defenseman Filip Kuba, who sustained an upper body injury on Tuesday. Andrew Raycroft earned his first win in nearly a year in Dallas last trip to the ice and the goaltender will try to make it two in a row tonight, as the Stars welcome the Senators. Raycroft has been forced into the Stars No. 1 goaltending spot thanks to a groin injury to Kari Lehtonen. The veteran backstop won his first start since Lehtonen went down, as Raycroft made 35 saves to help Dallas notch Mondays 3-1 victory in Colorado. It was the first win for Raycroft since he and the Stars defeated Minnesota on Jan. 9 of last season. Raycroft is now 1-5-0 on the season with a respectable .912 save percentage. Lehtonen, who is expected to miss three weeks, was 13-4-1 before injuring his groin Saturday against Phoenix. "It was a big win for all of us tonight," said Raycroft. "I felt really good in practice and the guys were skating well all night. Whenever you get a win on the road its big." Michael Ryder had two goals while Eric Nystrom scored the other for the Stars, who are 3-1-1 since a five-game losing streak. Dallas has a solid 8-3-1 record as the host this year and is kicking off a brief two-game homestand tonight. The Stars will also welcome the New York Islanders on Saturday. Dallas posted a 2-1 regulation win in Ottawa last season and tonights tilt is the only scheduled meeting between the clubs this season. The Stars have taken two straight and four of six from the Senators and Dallas has come out on top in three of the last four matchups in the Big D. --- Flames host Blue Jackets (Sports Network) - One of the reasons the Calgary Flames sit last in the Northwest Division has been their inability to string together victories. A visit from the Columbus Blue Jackets could help the Flames secure the momentum is desperately needs. Calgary seeks to win three in a row for the first time this season in a meeting with struggling Columbus at the Saddledome. The Flames snapped a three-game slide with a victory at the Wild on Sunday and then won two straight for only the second time this season after securing Tuesdays 1-0 victory over the Predators. Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside 26 shots for his first shutout of the season and 41st of his career. Derek Smith scored his first career goal for the Flames, who havent notched three consecutive victories since April 1-6 of last season. "We made sure we were focused like we needed to be, when you play Nashville you need to stay with your game and be patient," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter. The victory evened Calgarys home record to 5-5-1 on the season, but it will play tonight without defenseman Mark Giordano because of a hamstring ailment. The blueliner had the lone Flames goal when the club visited the Blue Jackets on Nov. 21 and suffered a 4-1 defeat. While these two clubs have split their last 10 encounters, Columbus has dropped two straight and eight of its last 10 in Calgary. Jeff Carter scored twice for the Blue Jackets against the Flames, but he and the rest of the offense were mostly shut down by the Canucks Cory Schneider on Tuesday.dddddddddddd Despite launching 48 shots on net, a club record in a regulation game, the Blue Jackets were handed a 4-1 defeat. Samuel Pahlsson scored the lone Columbus goal while shorthanded and Fedor Tyutin logged an assist for a third straight game for the Blue Jackets, who have lost two straight since a 3-0-2 run. Curtis Sanford made 30 saves in the loss. "We had a lot of shots and a lot of good chances, but Schneider was sharp," said Pahlsson. "We lost some battles early, but I thought we played a pretty good game." Columbus lost the opener of a four-game swing through Canada and is only 1-8-2 as the visiting team this year. Scoring first could help the Blue Jackets secure their second road win of the season. Columbus allowed the first goal on Tuesday for the 14th time this year and fell to 1-11-2 after doing so. --- Schneider, Canucks host Predators (Sports Network) - There was some big news for the Canucks coming out of Vancouver prior to tonights meeting with the Nashville Predators. The biggest may be the return of forward Mason Raymond from a serious injury suffered during last seasons Stanley Cup Finals, but the more interesting could be head coach Alain Vigneault to start Cory Schneider in net for a seventh game in a row over Roberto Luongo. Schneider will try to back stop Vancouver to a sixth straight victory this evening as he faces off against the struggling Predators. Schneider initially took over for Luongo when the latter was dealing with an upper-body injury, but the former Vezina Trophy nominee has yet to start since Nov. 13 despite being healthy. That is because of the roll Schneider has been on. He stopped a career-high 47 shots in Tuesdays 4-1 win over Columbus and has only allowed four goals while posting two shutouts over Vancouvers season high winning streak. "I feel great. Im just enjoying playing and not thinking too much about it," Schneider said. "Getting in net is a good feeling, but Im just happy the teams winning." Daniel Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Alexandre Burrows each had a goal and an assist while David Booth also scored for the Canucks, who with a victory tonight would be on their longest win streak since a seven-game run from March 3-16. While Vancouver could be without defenseman Sami Salo tonight after he tweaked a groin injury on Tuesday, Raymond is ready to play for the first time since suffering a fractured vertebrae in game 6 of the Cup Finals. "Ive come a long way," said Raymond on Vancouvers website. "You go from lying in bed for a week not even barely moving and being in a brace for a few months. Did I know that Id be here playing at this time? I dont know, it might have been Christmas or January, but its been a long process." Raymond scored 25 goals and 53 points in 82 games during the 2009-10 season while notching 15 goals and 24 assists in 70 regular-season contests a year ago. The Predators will be aiming to avoid a sixth defeat in seven games this evening after a 1-0 setback in Calgary on Tuesday. Pekka Rinne made 28 saves for Nashville, but was outdueled by the Flames Miikka Kiprusoff and his 26 stops. Nashville began the season 6-3-1 on the road, but has lost three of four on a five-game road trip that ends tonight and has been held to two goals or less in five straight. "This years a new group and its a new identity, but I think were headed in the right direction," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "Sometimes I forget that were the youngest team in the league." These two clubs split four meetings a season ago before the Canucks opened up this years series with a 5-1 home win on Oct. 20. Sedin had a goal and two assists, while Luongo got the start and made 25 saves. Rinne was pulled after giving up four goals on 16 shots in the first period. Anders Lindback made 23 saves in relief for a Predators club that has lost five of its last eight in Vancouver.
