BERLIN -- Hoffenheim dampened Bayern Munichs Bundesliga title celebrations by grabbing a 3-3 draw to end the champions 19-game winning run on Saturday. Anthony Modestes 23rd-minute opening goal only seemed to rile Bayern, which responded with three goals in nine minutes -- a brace from Claudio Pizarro and one from Xherdan Shaqiri. But Sejad Salihovic pulled a goal back with a brilliant free kick in the 40th and Roberto Firmino equalized in the 75th. Hoffenheim goalkeeper Jens Grahl preserved the draw, denying Bayern substitute Arjen Robben with three minutes remaining. "It was a great day for us but Bayern are still beyond reach for us," Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol said. It was only the third time in 28 games that Bayern -- which clinched the title with a record seven games to spare on Tuesday -- dropped points this season. However, Bayern still managed to extend its record 53-game unbeaten run. "Compliments to Hoffenheim," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said. "We always had a solution in the first half, not in the second half. We had no control, it went here and there, and when that happens the other 17 teams are better than us." Marco Reus scored a hat trick for Borussia Dortmund to come from behind and win 3-2 at 10-man Stuttgart to reclaim second place from rival Schalke. "The second half was great. We deserved to win," said Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp, whose side visits Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday. Bayer Leverkusen could only draw 1-1 with bottom side Eintracht Braunschweig. Mainz enjoyed a 3-0 win over Augsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt lost 2-1 at Wolfsburg. In the late game, Felix Klaus wonderful 65th-minute strike to the far top corner clinched a 3-2 come-from-behind win for Freiburg over fellow relegation candidate Nuremberg. Emanuel Pogatetz, who opened the scoring for Nuremberg in the sixth, was sent off with his second yellow card in injury time. "We won a game, nothing more. Were in a fight against the drop," said Freiburg coach Christian Streich, whose side moved five points clear of the relegation zone. Pep Guardiola rewarded his side for winning the Bundesliga by making several changes from the side that won 3-1 at Hertha Berlin. The Bayern coach also likely had one eye on Tuesdays Champions League quarterfinal first leg at Manchester United. Tom Starke made a rare start in place of regular goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, while David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Toni Kroos, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Mueller and Robben were also rested. Hoffenheim took advantage of the home sides high defence to open the scoring. Kevin Volland sent Anthony Modeste on his way from inside his own half. The French strikers first effort was parried by Starke but he followed up to fire the loose ball home. Shaqiri crossed for Pizarro to equalize in the 31st, and the Peruvian returned the favour for Shaqiri to make it 2-1 three minutes later, six minutes before Franck Ribery crossed for Pizarro to claim his second. Salihovic scored with a free kick from around 30 metres (yards), and Roberto Firmino eluded Dante and Rafinha to complete the come-back before Grahl secured the point. "We have to analyze what happened today," Guardiola said. "Were not favourites against Manchester on Tuesday if we play like we did today in the second half." The worst news from Bayerns point of view was the first half injury to midfielder Thiago Alcantara. An MRI scan confirmed the Spaniard suffered an extended partial ligament tear in his right knee, ruling him out of action for up to eight weeks. Dortmund fell two goals behind in Stuttgart after Christian Gentner scored in the ninth and Martin Harnik made it 2-0 10 minutes later. Jonas Hofmann set up Reus to score in the 30th, and the Dortmund attacking midfielder equalized with a penalty in the 68th, after last defender Georg Niedermeier was sent off for bringing down Robert Lewandowski, who had earlier struck the post. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cut the ball back for Reus winner in the 83rd. "Its hard but thats the way you come away from the bottom -- fighting and sticking together," said Stuttgart coach Huub Stevens, whose side remains second from bottom. The game was interrupted briefly in the second half for injured referee Michael Weiner to be replaced by one of the linesmen. Naldos 89th-minute long-range strike ensured Wolfsburg closed within a point of Leverkusen. Stefan Aigner scored for Frankfurt in the 11th but Ivica Olic equalized in the 69th. Leverkusen needed a penalty from Stefan Kiessling in the 51st to rescue a point against Braunschweig, which took the lead four minutes before through Ken Reichels superb volley inside the near post. Captain Mikko Koivu had a goal and two assists to lead the Wild to a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. Koivu scored the winning goal with less than three minutes to play, allowing the Wild to rebound from the disappointment of Tuesdays 6-2 loss at Montreal. Former Senator Dany Heatley had a goal and an assist for the Wild (14-5-4) as did Jonas Brodin. Jason Pominville had the other Minnesota goal while Zach Parise had two assists. "I felt good going into this game and I felt confident that we were going to play really hard because of our leadership and because of the way weve responded in the past," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. "Ive got a lot of confidence in that leadership but the one thing I was worried about was our legs after three games in four days. I thought it was a factor in the first period but I thought our guys were able to find another gear." Milan Michalek scored on the power play as the teams approached the midway point of the third period to pull Ottawa even with the Wild, and it looked as if that goal would at least get the Senators to overtime. "Its disappointing. We got the game tied up, but again, were chasing the game. Any time youre chasing the game, it makes the game hard," Senators coach Paul MacLean said. Kyle Turris and Mika Zibanejad also scored for the Senators (8-10-4), who have lost three straight games and four of their past five. "Its very disappointing, its frustrating. We came out and had our best first period of the year. We played a pretty solid game but again, theres one or two mistakes that we let happen and they capitalized on," Turris said. A pair of goals in the second period allowed the Wild to take a 3-2 lead into the third, and Heatley played a part in both. He drew a primary assist on Brodins goal that tied the game 2-2 exactly three minutes into the period and then jammed in a loose puck while behind the net at 6:05. Heatley pushed a loose puck to the front of the net and then beat Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson to the puck before banking it off goaltender Craig Andersons right pad and in, all while standing behind the goal-line. "Whetther were in Ottawa or not were worried about our team and (Tuesday) night wasnt acceptable and I think everyone thought that way.dddddddddddd We needed to come back with a big win and we did," said Heatley, who had a sour parting of the ways after four season in the Senators organization. The Wild had the only power play of the first period but it proved to be fruitful for both sides while Jared Cowen sat in the penalty box for interference. The Senators opened the scoring with a short-handed goal on a nifty pass from Clarke MacArthur to Turris. With his stick between his legs, MacArthur fed Turris in the slot and his one-timer slowly trickled across the goal-line at 5:54. But just 59 seconds later Pominville took a pass at the corner of the face-off circle and beat Anderson with a quick shot inside the near post. Pominville, who leads the Wild with 13 goals, skated in the warm-up but was listed as a scratch on the starting line up before eventually suiting up. Zibanejad gave the Senators the lead at 11:11 but the celebration was short-lived. The Senators outshot the Wild 37-25, making it just the sixth time the season they have outshot their opposition. It was also just the sixth time in 22 games they have allowed fewer than 30 shots. "On a positive side of it, we look at the stat sheet and the balance (shots on goal) is starting to go the other way. So thats a positive for us. We only gave up 25 shots on our net. The scoring chances are unofficially in our favour, we gave up a lot less," MacLean said. "Are we going in the right direction? We believe so, but we wont know until our next game." Notes: The Senators played their 800th home game in franchise history, and 676th at the building currently named the Canadian Tire Centre ... The Senators have lost only 15 man-games to injury all season. The Wild have lost 62 ... The Wild recalled forward Jason Zucker from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League. Zucker had four goals and eight points in 12 games with Iowa this season ... Minnesota has allowed a league-low 23 five-on-five goals this season ... Matt Kassian, Eric Gryba and Joe Corvo were scratches for the Senators while Torrey Mitchell and Mike Rupp didnt dress for the Wild. LOS ANGELES -- A trial will be held next month to determine whether Donald Sterling, who opposes his estranged wifes planned sale of the Los Angeles Clippers, was properly removed as an administrator for the family trust that owns the team. A probate court judge in Los Angeles Wednesday denied Shelly Sterlings urgent request to confirm her authority as sole administrator of The Sterling Family Trust so that she can unilaterally proceed with a $2 billion sale of the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Instead, the judge agreed to an expedited hearing because of looming sales deadlines. The development is the latest in a legal tug-of-war following the NBAs decision to ban Donald Sterling for life after racist remarks to a girlfriend were recorded and publicized. Donald Sterling is fighting the decision and suing the league for $1 billion. The league has contended the comments were bad for business and damaged both the Clippers and the NBA. The four-day trial was granted exceptionally quickly and will begin July 7. The deadline for the sale is July 15, which also is the date the NBAs owners hope to vote on whether they will approve the sale. Court filings Wednesday indicated the NBA has set a hard deadline of Sept. 15. If the sale isnt completed then, the league will undertake proceedings to seize and sell the team on its own. Donald Sterlings lawyer, Bobby Samini, left the courthouse without comment after a clerk announced the trial schedule. Neither Sterling was present. "I just want to resolve this as quickly as possible," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver told The Associated Press on Wednesday in Miami at an NBA Cares event. The crux of the case will centre on the question of whether the 80-year-old Donald Sterling is mentally competent to be a co-trustee of The Sterling Family Trust, which gives him the authority to determine the teams future. According to the trusts terms, he can be ruled "mentally incapacitated" after being evaluated by two doctors, said Pierce ODonnell, Shelly Sterlings attorney. Shelly Sterling activated that clause in negotiating what would be a record-breaking deal with Ballmer as sole trustee. But Donald Sterling challenged the removal in a letter sent Monday to his wifes attorney said "any attempt to remove me as a Trustee of the Sterling Trust is invalid and illegal. Furthermore, any assertion that I am incapacitated... is false and without merit." According to court documents, two doctors examined Donald Sterling in May and concluded that he suffers from "mild cognitive impairment consistent with early Alzheimers Disease" or some other forms of brain disease after examining brain scans and having him undergo other tests. "In my opinion he is substantially unable to manage his finances and resist fraud and undue influence, and is no longer competent to act as trustee of his trust," concluded Dr. James E. Spar, who is affiliated with the division of geriatric psychiatry at UCLA. Sterling voluntarily went to the doctors at the request of his wife, according to a person with knowledge of the proceedings who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the details publicly. A third doctor reviewed the two doctors findings as well as Sterlings brain scans and concurred with their conclusions that he "lacks the capacity to function as trustee." Donald Sterlings attorney, Maxwell Blecher, contested the doctors findings in remarks Tuesday to The Associated Press. "Anybody at his age level on a brain scan would probably show some impairment. But that doesnt mean you forget where your car keys are and youre incompetent," Blecher said. "There isnt the slightest evidence hes incapable of managing his affairs." Donald Sterling said in a statement that hes not just fighting for the Clippers but taking a stand against the NBA, which he called "a band of hypocrites and bullies" and "despicable monsters" who want "to take away our privacy rights and freedom of speech." "As Ive said previously, if Donald chooses to litigate against us, so be it," Silver said. "So its going to take longer than we had hoped for this transaction to close, but itll get done ultimately. Its just a question of time." Ballmers attorney, Adam Streisand, said he was pleased with the trial schedule and "confident that after the trial the court is going to bless this transaction." The NBAs general counsel, Rick Buchanan, warned in a court papers that if the judge didnt confirm Shelly Sterlings sole trusteeship and if her deal with Ballmer "is not promptly consummated, there will be substantial harm" to the Clippers, the NBA and even The Sterling Family Trust -- the last of which would be responsible for the NBAs costs related to the legal proceedings that result. Buchanan said a recent independent survey of more than 500 Clippers fans found the majority would be less likely to support the team if Donald Sterling remained its owner. Buchanan said thousands of NBA fans worldwide have contacted the league directly or via social media to say theyre hurt or embarrassed by his views and arent sure theyll continue supporting the league and its teams. He also cited NBA player worries about the impact for the team with the upcoming NBA draft. "Mr. Sterlings continued ownership is damaging the Clippers and NBAs relationships with existing and potential business partners and licenses," Buchanan wrote. He said nearly all of the Clippers local sponsors have terminated or suspended their relationships with the team, including Adidas, Commerce Casino and Hotel, Red Bull, Mandalay Bay Hotel, Virgin America and Mercedes. Shelly Sterlings court bid aims to have a judge confirm her authority as sole trustee to ensure the Ballmer sale moves forward. Blecher said that a representative for Donald Sterling would be at any hearing, and that the next step is to have other doctors evaluate Donald Sterling. "I have no doubt at the end of the day the court is not going to say hes incompetent," Blecher said. "Thats a very high burden in the probate court -- otherwise people would get their sisters and wife and brother-in-laws and everybody declared incompetent."

PHOENIX - So many times this season, the Minnesota Timberwolves failed in close games down the stretch. On Tuesday night, they turned the tables on the Phoenix Suns. Kevin Love fell an assist shy of his second triple-double in three games and the Timberwolves used a fourth-quarter outburst to beat the Suns 110-101. Love, whose first career triple-double came at Utah on Saturday, had 33 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who trailed by eight with 7:57 to play, then outscored the Suns 24-6. He knew late in the game about that one missing assist. "I think when we were up 10 they told me that if I can get an outlet here, you get your triple-double," Love said, "but at the point I just wanted to secure the rebound and get to the free throw line, get the lead up a little bit more so we wouldnt have to worry about much. Nine assists again, I have been there a few times." Rookie Shabazz Muhammad, not even in the rotation much of the season, had a career-high 20 points. "He was terrific," Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said. "You have to give him all the credit in the world. He kept working and working and working, " Muhammad also had six rebounds and two steals with just one turnover in a season-high 24 minutes. "Im just happy Im finally getting some playing time," he said. "Like I said, Ive been staying after practice working with the coaches and its really paying off for me." Corey Brewer added 18 points for Minnesota. Markieff Morris scored 24 and Gerald Green 19 for Phoenix. Goran Dragic scored 16 but fouled out with 3:46 to play, the third time hes fouled out in his career and first this season. The Suns P.J. Tucker grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds. "It is still just one loss," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "It is just the way you lose it. Giving up 35 points tonight in the fourth quarter, 34 (Sunday) night in the fourth quarter. You are not going to win games." Dragic twisted his right ankle in the third quarter and went to the locker room to have it re-taped, then returned. He said hed have to wait and see if he would be able to play Wednesday night at Utah. On Dragics sixth foul, Love made two free throws to put Minnesota ahead 96-95. "I think the momentum had swung prior to him fouling out anyway," Hornacek said. "He twisted his ankle and wanted to come back and give it a shot. In hindsight maybe I should have just left him off of it." Markieff Morris made a 16-footer to give Phoenix its final lead, 97-96, with 3:26 to go as the Suns lost their second straight at home. Minnesota has won four of five. The Suns were up 91-83 after Ish Smiths three-point play with 7:57 left, then the Timberwolves scored the next nine. Brewers 13-footer put Minnesota ahead 92-90 with 5:29 to go. Dragic scored twice, then Love made one inside before Dragics final foul. Brewer had two baskets and Love capped the big run with a 3-pointer and the Timberwolves led 105-97 with a minute to go. Neither team led by more than eight in the first half, with the Suns up 52-50 at the break. Loves 3-pointer gave Minnesota a 66-64 lead with 7:03 left in the third quarter. Greens inside basket tied it and started a 15-4 run that put Phoenix up 79-70 on Markieff Morris dunk with 2:18 left in the quarter. The Suns led 81-75 entering the fourth. Minnesota outscored the Suns 35-20 in the fourth quarter. The Suns were just 3 of 15 from 3-point range. Foster went undrafted out of Tennessee before signing as a free agent with the Texans and eventually developing into one of the NFLs best running backs. On Sunday when Foster was out with a groin injury, it was Blues chance to shine. The former LSU back took advantage of the opportunity, carrying a franchise-record 36 times and tying Houstons single-game rookie rushing record with 156 yards. He didnt allow himself to soak in the moment during the win over the Browns. He was too busy worrying about the next carry.I never during the game sat down and relaxed like: Wow, Im doing good, he said. Just keep your foot on the pedal. I knew I was running the ball hard and (I said) just keep doing what youre doing and running the ball hard.It was a culmination of years of hard work for Blue, who was likely headed for a higher draft position before tearing his ACL in the third week of the 2012 season. He spent months recovering and said he didnt really feel like himself again until midway through his senior season. It was very difficult. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome, Blue said. Youve got to get your confidence back. Youve got to train harder. Youre behind everybody, so really youre coming from the back of the line to get back to where you were.ddddddddddddWhen he was drafted by the Texans, Blue was determined to crack the 53-man roster and decided hed worry about everything else after that. He developed an immediate bond with Foster, watching him intently on the practice field and asking him for pointers off of it.He said the No. 1 thing Foster tried to drill into his head was the importance of being patient. When you do get carries you want to try to impress people so youre not really running with patience, Blue said. Youre just trying to get it done and make that big run to wow the coaches. It took a while, but Blue finally understood why Foster harped on that singular point. As the season went on, I kind of started to understand what Arian was saying, he said. You cant force it. Just be patient and that long ones going to come.Foster is listed as day to day this week, but even if he returns on Sunday, coach Bill OBrien said theyll use Blue, too. OBrien was asked if Blues performance on Sunday gave him confidence in the young running back. He insisted that he didnt need that game to feel that way about him.I have a lot of confidence in Alfred. I really do, OBrien said. If I didnt have confidence in Alfred, I wouldnt have played him against Cleveland. I would have played (Jonathan) Grimes more. And it isnt just OBrien who has noticed Blues work this season. Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis raved about him as the Bengals prepare to meet Houston on Sunday. He really did a great job of making a lot of yardage after contact last week, Lewis said. Hes an impressive player. Obviously going through the draft process ... we had evaluations of guys and thought he was a talented player.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China ' ' ' |

MADRID, Spain -- A second-half goal from Luis "Pizzi" Afonso earned Espanyol a 2-1 victory at Malaga in the Spanish league on Tuesday, while Elche held fourth-place Athletic Bilbao to a 0-0 draw. Cristian Stuani laid the ball off for Sergio Garcia to smash home an angled shot as Espanyol took the lead in the 32nd minute. Malaga levelled two minutes later despite Pablo Perez being offside when he collected the ball before lifting a shot over goalkeeper Francisco Casilla. Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero made a number of key saves but couldnt reach Pizzis winner in the 75th. Malagas rally was stalled when Perez was red carded moments later. "An important win for ensuring we stay up in the first division," Garcia said after Espanyol reached 40 points to go provisionally eighth. Athletic, which currently holds the final Champions League qualifying spot, provisionally stretched its advantage over fifth-place Sevilla to nine points. Sevilla hosts Real Madrid, which is looking to rebound from its weekend defeat to Barcelona, on Wednesday. Neither team dominated at the Elches Martinez Valero Stadium, with Bilbao coming close in the 16th when goalkeeper Manuel Herrera palmed Ander Herreras curling free kick over the bar. The hosts best chance came in the 72nd when Christian Herrera cut a shot back across the box but it ran wide of the far post. Elche moved three points clear of 18th-place Getafe and the drop. "The weather didnt help, the pitch didnt help, neither team played great," Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera said. "I think we could have offered a better performance." Atletico Madrid leads the standings with 70 points, the same as Madrid but it enjoys the tiebreaker. Atletico plays Granada on Wednesday, when Barcelona faces Celta Vigo. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said Friday that he does not anticipate using the franchise tag on any free agents, something the team has done each of the past three seasons. The Chiefs are poised to lose several key players from last years 11-5 team, including Pro Bowl left tackle Branden Albert, Pro Bowl punt returner Dexter McCluster and starting defensive end Tyson Jackson, safety Kendrick Lewis and offensive guards Jon Asamoah and Geoff Schwartz. The deadline to use the franchise tag is March 3. "Probably not," Dorsey said. "We probably wont use it." The Chiefs used the tag on Albert last season, paying him more than $9.8 million -- the average of the top five salaries at his position the previous year. They could franchise him again but would be on the hook for 120 per cent of Alberts salary, a massive financial commitment for a team that is already bumping along just below the salary cap. Kansas City used the franchise tag on linebacker Tamba Hali two years ago, eventually signing him to a long-term contract. The same story unfolded last year for wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, who signed a $56 million, five-year contract one year after receiving the tag. Dorsey did say that hes having "ongoing conversations" with representatives of all of the Chiefs free agents, including Albert, but refused to get into the specifics. "We will continue to have ongoing discussions with his representatives here at the combine," Dorsey said. "Weve done is weve reached out to every representative for every unrestricted free agent that we have, and weve also talked to Alex Smiths representative as well." Smith wont become a free agent until after the 2014 season, but signing him to an extension would not only lock him up but also offer some salary cap relief. Smiths number this is season is $8 million, but the Chiefs could trim that roughly in half with an extension. The Chiefs have already waived defensive back Dunta Robinson to free up salary, and its likely they will either restructure current contracts or part ways with some of their veterans in order to create more off-season flexibility. "I dont think its fair to talk about a players contract in a setting like this," Dorsey said. "I think thats not the proper business that you like to do." Dorsey did address several other issues at the combine, including his belief in building through the draft. Thats the same philosophy followed by his mentor, Ted Thompson of the Green Bay Packers, and one espoused by Chiefs coach Andy Reid. That means that the Chiefs are unlikely to be quite as active as they were in free agency last year, when they turned over roughly half of their roster. Free agency begins March 1. Still, there are plenty of holes to fill, especially along the offensive line. "We look at everybody right now and make sure that you cover all the positions," Reid said Thursday. "One of the tricks of the draft is that you take the best players available, if you can stay that disciplined to do so and make yourself a better football team." Other positions of need include free safety, where Lewis struggled much of the season, and wide receiver, where the Chiefs kept shuffling through options with little success. "We have a pretty good group of young players to form a nice nucleus," Reid said. "I look forward to adding guys too, and Im a big believer that you build your team through the draft. Free agency can be a bit of a tease at times, and I think you have to be real careful." Cheap Nike Air Max 1 Mens Trainers . Finlands Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves to lead Dallas over the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 Saturday night. He received plenty of help from the Stars defence and got goals from Ray Whitney and Russias Valeri Nichushkin. Canadas Jamie Benn assisted on Whitneys goal. The victory moved Dallas into the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference for the first time this season. "Weve come from a long way," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "Youve got to give the guys credit for digging in. "I thought if we got within three or four points at the break, we could be a serious contender. Weve exceeded that." The Stars and Coyotes have identical 27-21-10 records for 64 points, but Dallas holds a tiebreaker over Phoenix, which fell to ninth. Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said his teams position at the break is "probably about where we should be. I think were better than that, but thats where we are." "Im not worrying about that too much yet," Lehtonen said of Dallas position in the standings. "Its good that were moving to the right direction. We just have to keep going." He was more impressed by defeating Phoenix twice in five days to make up four points on the Coyotes. "They were huge games both times. I really like it when we play well as a team." Dallas limited Phoenix to 27 shots, 13 in the third period. Lehtonen shut them out until Radim Vrbata scored on a power play with 15 seconds remaining. The Coyotes had six skaters to the Stars four because Tippett had pulled goalie Mike Smith, who had 31 saves. "Again (Lehtonen) was rock solid," said Ruff, an assistant coach for Canadas Olympic team. "He came up with some big saves. One when we were killing a penalty he went down low and made a glove save. He made a big stop on their breakaway when they were short-handed. "The only thing I would like to have seen was for him to get the shutout." "We couldnt generate too much offensively," Vrbata said. "But I think (Smiths) playiing the way we know he can play.dddddddddddd Hopefully, hes going to stay like that and we can do a little better for him." Whitney scored just 2:10 into the game. Nichushkin scored at 19:26 of the second period, deflecting in a shot by Trevor Daley. Dallas took the early lead when Whitney carried the puck into the Phoenix zone along the left side, skated into the slot and sent a wrist shot past Smith into the upper right corner of the net. "It was kind of not much happening in the first period until we decided we didnt want to back check on a play and give them the first goal," Tippett said. "That was something we talked about as a group, if we get behind its going to be much tougher on us." The Stars ended the first period a man up and put three shots on Smith for a 7-4 edge in shots. One of Dallas shots was short-handed, as the Stars made it difficult for the Coyotes to get out of their end. Midway through the second period, Dallas had two good scoring chances, but Smith gloved a high drive by Sergei Gonchar and stopped a tip-in attempt by Benn in front of the goal. Nichushkin deflected Daleys slap shot from the blue line for the rookies 13th goal with 34 seconds left in the second period for a 1-0 lead. The goal was reviewed to see whether Nichushkins deflection was on a high stick. NOTES: Whitney has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his last seven games against Phoenix. ... Coyotes D Derek Morris (upper-body injury) was inactive. He was hurt during Phoenixs victory over Chicago Friday. C Martin Hanzal, who missed that game because of illness, returned against Dallas. ... The Stars have not allowed more than 28 shots in any of their last 11 games. ... Vrbata has scored three goals in the last four games. ... Saturdays game was delayed briefly in the second period when linesman Ryan Galloway was upended in a collision with Whitney along the boards. Galloway stayed in the game. ... The public address announcer saluted the five Coyotes and three Stars who will be competing in the Olympics. Smith, a former Stars goalie, received almost as strong an ovation as the Dallas players. MONTREAL - Defender Nelson Rivas, who was ejected from the only game he played in 2013, has signed a new contract with the Montreal Impact, the Major League Soccer club announced Friday. The 30-year-old Colombian missed the entire regular season after knee surgery and then was shown the red card for charging an opponent in the 69th minute of Montreals 3-0 loss to Houston in the knock-out round of the playoffs. The club said Rivas will return for the 2014 campaign but gave no financial details of the deal. "We are extremely happy to have Nelson back next season," sporting director Nick De Santis said in a statement. "After the retirement of Alessandro Nesta, it was important to have another centre back on the roster. "We know he has not played a lot in his first two seasons but he has been healthy for months now. Nelson is still at a good age and is a player with power and strength. He also brings that intimidation factor on the field." The former Inter Milan defender was the first player signed by Montreal for their entry into MLS in 2012. Black Michael Kors Jet Set Tote .A. Juan Uribe scored on David Freeses errant throw to the plate in the ninth inning, and the Dodgers evened the Freeway Series with a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Kershaw recovered from a rocky start to pitch seven innings of seven-hit ball, but he gave up three early runs to the Angels resourceful lineup. The two-time Cy Young winner didnt get a win for just the second time in 12 starts since May. "It was a struggle at first, (and) I really dont know why," Kershaw said. "I was just missing. Theyre a great team, and theyre going to hit mistakes. And sometimes theyre going to hit pitches that arent mistakes." Kershaw still left with a chance for his major league-leading 14th victory until Albert Pujols drove a tying homer into the left-field bullpen against Brian Wilson in the eighth. Uribe hit an early three-run homer for the NL-leading Dodgers. He then singled against Kevin Jepsen (0-1) and eventually scored from third on Andre Ethiers grounder off a low curveball. "Its all about putting a good, quality swing on the ball," Ethier said. Freese was charged with his second throwing error of the night when Chris Iannetta couldnt hang on to the ball for the Angels (67-45), who dropped two games behind Oakland in the AL West. "The ball just didnt have enough pace on it for David to get it and make a throw in one motion," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "On the defensive end, we hurt ourselves. Against a good club, weve got to play a clean game, especially against a guy like Clayton Kershaw." Pujols and Iannetta had RBI doubles for the Angels, who made three errors and got just oone hit after the third inning.dddddddddddd Hector Santiago yielded five hits and three walks while pitching into the sixth. Kenley Jansen (2-3) struck out the side in the ninth. The Dodgers went ahead on an unearned run without a hit in the sixth. Matt Kemp reached on Freeses first throwing error and eventually scored on Scott Van Slykes fly. STAR VS STAR: Mike Trout went 2 for 3 while facing Kershaw in the regular season for the first time in the Southern California stars careers. "I love watching a guy like that," said Trout, who has a 20-game hitting streak in interleague play. "Its pretty cool facing him." Trout beat out an infield single in the first inning, and he laced a double down the line on the first pitch of the third. Kershaw, who hadnt pitched against the Angels since 2011, struck out Trout on three pitches in the fifth. "Im not going to talk about individual at-bats," Kershaw said. "I mean, hes a great hitter and he got two hits tonight, so tip your cap." ALBERTS SHOT: Pujols eighth-inning homer was his 513th, passing Eddie Mathews and Ernie Banks for 21st place in baseball history. The shot was his first since July 9, ending a 21-game drought. TRAINERS ROOM: Angels: Left-hander Tyler Skaggs is resting his strained left forearm before the team decides on a rehabilitation plan. Dodgers: Reliever Paco Rodriguez went on the disabled list with a strained shoulder, and the Dodgers recalled Pedro Baez from Triple-A Albuquerque. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals were trailing the Twins by a run in the ninth inning Tuesday night, and Kansas City manager Ned Yost was on the top step of the dugout, conferring with catching coach Pedro Grifol about the potential decisions he would have to make. Thats when Yost heard a voice pipe up. "The bat boy who never says anything turns around and says, Esky is going to get a hit and Gordos taking him in the fountain," Yost said. "I said, OK. Sounds like a pretty good plan." One that worked out perfectly, too. Alcides Escobar led off with a blooper to shallow right for a single, and Alex Gordon swatted the second pitch he saw over the right-field wall to give the AL Central-leading Royals a dramatic 2-1 victory over Minnesota -- and help them avoid their first three-game skid since mid-July. "Got a slider over the plate and put a good swing on it," Gordon said. "Really didnt have any offence going all night and was able to muster up something, so that was great." The Royals had been shut down all night by Ricky Nolasco, who scattered three hits over seven innings. But after going quietly in the eighth, they managed to break through against Perkins (3-1), who had converted 18 consecutive saves on the road. "We had a really good game out of Ricky. I feel bad for him because he pitched seven shutout innings and threw the ball well," Perkins said. "He and the team dont have anything to show for it. Its not a fun feeling." Wade Davis (7-2) earned the win with a perfect ninth inning in relief. Danny Duffy was nearly as sharp for the Royals as Nolasco was for Minnesota. The left-hander allowed four hits and a pair of walks over 6 2-3 innings, but was in line for the loss after giving up a double to Brian Dozier and a slicing single to Joe Mauer to start the seventh. The Royals had several chances to push a run across much earlier -- and with much less drama. Billy Butler was hit by pitches from Nolasco on two occasions, and the first time -- in the second inning -- he advanced to third before getting stranded. Christian Colon was left standing on second in the third inning, and Jarrod Dyson was picked off first base in the sixth. Dyson was also picked off first base in Monday nights 1-0 loss to the Yankees. The Twins also had opportunities to push across an early run. Trevor Plouffe grounded into inning-ending double plays in the second and fifth, and Danny Santana was picked off first base in the fourth. Eduardo Escobar was stranded at second base in the sixth. Those missed chances proved to be important when the ninth inning rolled around. "I dont think anybody saw that coming," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said, "a bloop and a blast and a big walk-off for them." SPARSE CROWD There were only 13,847 fans in attendance, and the empty seats certainly caught Yosts eye. "Were in a pennant race," he said. "Weve been working hard to try to make our fans happy and make our fans proud of us for a lot of years, and wed like them out here to enjoy a night like this with us, because this was a special night. A fun night. I just wish there could have been more out here to enjoy it with us." NOLASCOS BUG Nolasco may have benefited from a warm, muggy night at Kauffman Stadium, where the temp at first pitch was 91 degrees. Hed been battling a flu bug thats been going through the clubhouse. "The heat may have helped him," Gardenhire said. "He sweat some of that out." TRAINERS ROOM Twins: OF Byron Buxton, one of baseballs top prospects, is headed for the Arizona Fall League. Buxton is still recovering from post-concussion symptoms -- primarily headaches -- that he sustained after an outfield collision at Double-A New Britain on Aug. 13. Royals: RHP Yordano Ventura will miss his start Wednesday night with soreness in his back, and 2B Omar Infante could miss a couple days with shoulder inflammation. "Everybody is dealing with something this time of year," Yost said. "My feet hurt." UP NEXT Twins: RHP Phil Hughes (14-8, 3.65 ERA) tries to win his fifth straight when he faces Kansas City for the fifth time this season. Royals: RHP Liam Hendriks makes his Royals debut after arriving in a trade from Toronto. Hendriks spent his first three seasons with Minnesota. "Itll be interesting," Hendriks said of facing his former team. "It could be really good or really bad." Adidas Superstar Supercolor Online . Ellsbury lined an RBI single on a 0-2 pitch to score Derek Jeter with the go ahead run in the eighth inning, and the Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 on Tuesday night. Nike Air Max 2016 For Sale . The midfielder had an operation on Saturday, and is set to miss seven Premier League games, the third round of the FA Cup and the semifinals of the League Cup. Adidas Zx 850 Womens Ireland .com) - James Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas each scored eight of their 15 points during the pivotal third quarter, and Toronto snapped its four-game skid by pulling away for a 109-96 victory over the Boston Celtics at Air Canada Centre.PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- Winning ugly is nothing that Kansas coach Bill Self will complain about. In fact, theres times he finds it downright satisfying. Like Thursday, for instance, when Canadian Andrew Wiggins was slowed by the flu, when the second-ranked Jayhawks used reserves more than starters in the second half and when the hottest scorer on the court happened to be wearing a Wake Forest uniform. No problem -- Self was all smiles afterward, because above all else, a win always beats the alternative. Wiggins scored 12 of his 17 points in the final 5:53, and Kansas held off previously unbeaten Wake Forest 87-78 in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis. A pair of reserves, Frank Mason and Joel Embiid, combined for 23 more points for the Jayhawks (5-0), who will face Villanova in the semifinals on Friday night. "Ive always taken great pride in winning ugly," Self said. "I think its good to win ugly. Id rather win pretty, but theres nothing wrong with winning ugly. The thing about it thats frustrating to me, and I think these guys will probably agree, weve always been a team that won ugly by not allowing the other team to score." That wasnt the case Thursday, at least not in the final 20 minutes. Well, the last 20:01, really. Kansas was up by 16 when Codi Miller-McIntyre got a layup to fall for Wake Forest just before the first half ended. Before that shot, Miller-McIntyre had only four points. He finished with a career-best 26, and has scored at least 20 in five of Wake Forests six games this season. "Ive been coaching for a long time and hes one of the best Ive ever been around," Wake Forest coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "Great, great person. Youre seeing the fruits of his labour. ... Ive never seen a young man put the amount of time into his game as he has, both on the court, in the weight room and cerebral. He watches as much film as us as coaches." Miller-McIntyre was seated to Bzdeliks right as he raved about his effort. As his coach spoke, Miller-McIntyres facial expression barely changed. The Demon Deacons let a chance slip away, and Miller-McIntyre wasnt thrilled about that realization. "I hate the term moral victory," he said. The Demon Deacons (5-1) held Kansas to a season-low 47 per cent from the field, but loost forward Devin Thomas after he was ejected for two technical fouls with 7:28 remaining.dddddddddddd Bzdelik said he was not given an explanation. And when told that Kansas was getting four free throws, even Self scoffed. "I hated what happened with Thomas," Self said. Tyler Cavanaugh scored 11 points, while Madison Jones and Coron Williams each had 10 for Wake Forest. When Thomas got ejected, Kansas Conner Frankamp made three of the four free throws to put the Jayhawks up 64-52. And when Wiggins, who was largely silent offensively for the first 35 minutes, made a 3-pointer for a 68-57 lead, the overwhelmingly pro-KU crowd might have sensed that Wakes upset bid had run dry. The Demon Deacons had other ideas. Miller-McIntyre kept attacking, and his 3-pointer with just under 2 minutes left got Wake Forest to 77-72. Desperately needing a stop, Wake Forest wound up losing Arnaud Adala Moto to his fifth foul when he got in Wiggins way on a drive with 38 seconds left. Wiggins made the first free throw and missed the second, but the ball bounced out of bounds to Kansas. Naadir Tharpe hit a pair of foul shots to make it a three-possession game, and Kansas escaped. "Were happy we won," Self said. "I thought Wake Forest really outplayed us in the second half." A three-games-in-three-days tournament is a chance for teams to show off their depth. Kansas wasted no time in doing just that. The Jayhawks had eight players score in the first 10 minutes, running out to a quick 24-13 lead. A 17-2 run put Kansas in early control, with the Demon Deacons getting only one field goal in a stretch that lasted nearly 8 minutes. Kansas had seven players score in that burst, no one getting more than four points and Wiggins not even registering a field goal. Wake Forest weathered that storm, and the score was 27-20 with 5:25 left until the break. Thats when the Jayhawks hit the gas again, scoring 13 of the next 17 points before winding up with a 40-26 edge at halftime. Miller-McIntyre got a layup to fall just before the halftime buzzer, and then the Demon Deacons opened the second half on a 16-6 run. But the Jayhawks never lost the lead in the second half, even with reserves in there for long stretches. "Our bench was really good," Self said. FALL RIVER, Mass. - Jurors will get to see Aaron Hernandezs trophy case when they visit his home during the former New England Patriots stars murder trial, a judge ruled Tuesday.Assistant District Attorney William McCauley had sought to have the case hidden, saying the defence wanted to get the benefit of having the jury be impressed by trophies or medals.Prosecutors also cited the O.J. Simpson murder trial in arguing that they wanted to avoid what they called strategic manipulation of the home. In the Simpson case, photographs and pictures were placed in the home to portray the defendant as a family man, and a Bible was placed on a table to play to jurors religious sympathies, prosecutors said in a court filing.Hernandezs lawyer, James Sultan, argued that the house should be shown to the jurors exactly the way it was at the time of Odin Lloyds death. The fact the Mr. Hernandez played for the Patriots, thats in the case, Sultan said. The trial is about the truth. This is the truth of his house.Fall River Superior Court Justice Susan Garsh agreed with the defence, saying the trophy case would remain uncovered.Jury selection is set to begin Friday for Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty to killing Lloyd, a semiprofessional football player. Hernandez was a tight end for the Patriots with a $40 million contract when prosecutors say he killed Lloyd in an industrial park near his North Attleborough home in June 2013. Lloyd, 27, was dating the sister of Hernandezs fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins.Hernandez also has pleaded not guilty in the fatal shootings of two men in 2012 after an encounter at a Boston nightclub. That case has not yet gone to trial. On Tuesday, Garsh also allowed Jenkins and Hernandezs mother to attend the trial, even though they may be called as witnesses. She also allowed others close to Lloyd to attend, including his mother, his sister and Shaneah Jenkins, Shayannas sister and Lloyds girlfriend.Shayanna Jenkins is accused of lying to a grand jury investigating the case and has pleaded not guilty to perjury.A hearing is set for Wednesday about two petitions by prosecutors to grant immunity to Shayanna Jenkins and one other witness, said Mark Ferriera, an assistant court clerk. Neither he nor Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the district attorneys office, would say who the other witness was, citing rules that close courtrooms for such petitions.Shayanna Jenkins lawyer, Janice Bassil, did not return an email sent Monday seeking more information about the hearing. Jenkins and Hernandez have a child together. The judge indicated there may be another hearing Thursday before jury selection begins. The trial is expected to last six to 10 weeks, and dozens of witnesses could be called, including Patriots coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft. With Bayern playing the Club World Cup final in Morocco, Leverkusen and Dortmund could have gained some ground on the undefeated leader. But Leverkusen went down 1-0 at Werder Bremen and Dortmund lost 2-1 at home to Hertha Berlin, leaving Bayern seven points ahead of Leverkusen and 12 ahead of Dortmund, with one match in hand. Here are my thoughts on Dwane Caseys contract extension, Michael Carter Williams as rookie of the year, Mark Jacksons firing in Golden State, RC Buford as executive of the year and Kevin Durant as most valuable player. 1. Dwane Casey contract extension: Makes complete sense to me. Stability in leadership positions in any organization is vital to success and the fact that you know what the vision/direction of the Raptors will be for the foreseeable future, thats a positive. He earned that extension with a solid approach the past three years. The building process of creep-crawl-walk-run is in the walk stage right now and thats a solid development. Lots and lots of work ahead to get it to the run stage but usually an important part of that vital next step beyond better players is having consistency and shared vision at the top to see the job through. The right decision was made. A good day for not only Dwane Casey but for Raptors fans. 2. Michael Carter Williams (76ers): Rookie of the Year choice was a no-brainer. Hes actually a better pro than what I saw from him in college at Syracuse. Wonderful all-round talent that impacts the game on so many fronts. If they can add a solid supporting cast around him, hes got a chance to be one of the elite lead guards in the league for a long time. A real positive amidst a season of frustration in Philly. 3. Mark Jackson (Warriors): Cant say Im surprised by this move. With two assistant coachhes being let go during the regular season and the constant rumors, you knew that something behind the scenes had run amiss in the Bay Area.dddddddddddd He did a good job in his run there and in my opinion, deserves and will get another crack at it at some point, possibly quite soon. Opens up a very attractive job. If Im in their shoes, the guy I go get is Stan Van Gundy. He did a terrific job in both Miami and Orlando as a head coach and, after taking two years off, youd be getting an energized guy with big time leadership and head coaching experience. Lots of talent and money invested there so go get a guy that can help you see full return on your investment. 4. RC Buford (Spurs): The model franchise. Partnership, leadership, basketball savvy and smarts all in effect in major doses. Behind the scenes, Buford sets the tone for the positive direction for this organization. No panic, always the big picture in mind and a terrific feel for the team concept. They do things in a first class fashion and his support of Gregg Popovich in the shadows is impressive. Well earned and well deserved. 5. Kevin Durant (Thunder): If you havent watched/listened to Durants MVP acceptance speech, please do so. Wow! Ive always been a huge fan of him as a person and player but now Im head over heels about him. Gotta tell you, he had me crying. What a terrific speech from one of the true genuine guys in sport today. A class act and a true gentleman. ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Detroit Lions have signed Missouri quarterback James Franklin. Detroit cut rugby star Carlin Isles on Monday. The Lions signed the 5-foot-8, 165-pound Isles after an impressive workout late last season and added the former Ashland University football player to their practice squad. The Lions also signed undrafted free agents Florida State fullback Chad Abram, Tennessee guard Alex Bullard, William & Mary defensive back Jerome Couplin, Wake Forest linebacker Justin Jackson, Kansas State offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, Oklahoma defensive back Gabe Lynn, Louisiana-Lafayette tight end Jacob Maxwell, Old Dominion guard D.J. Morrell, Appalachian State receiver Andrew Peacock, and Nebraska defensive back Mohammed Seisay. Detroit also released Sherman Carter, Jon Morgan, Nate Ness, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, John Potter, Matt Veldman and Cody Wilson. The Desert Foxes took part in the 2010 World Cup and failed to advance past the group stage, and the African side figures to have a tough time reaching the last 16 this time around as well. Belgiums last appearance on the big stage was the 2002 tournament when the team reached the second round before bowing out to eventual champions Brazil. And the Red Devils will expect to reach at least the last 16 as the favorites in Group H this year. Head coach Marc Wilmots was a member of the 2002 World Cup team, and he will be on the sidelines this time around. Wilmots doesnt have an extensive coaching resume, but he brings with him a talented young side that could make some noise in Brazil. Belgium has a number of quality attacking options led by 22-year-old Chelsea star Eden Hazard, while Everton winger Kevin Mirallas figures to play opposite Hazard and provide quality service to striker Romelu Lukaku, who was a teammate of Mirallas at Everton this past season while on loan from Chelsea. That trio should provide plenty of scoring chances for Belgium, but how far this team goes could be determined by how well they hold up in defense. Captain Vincent Kompany will serve as the anchor, and he will be joined by players like Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Vermaelen and Toby Alderweireld in front of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is coming off a great season with Atletico Madrid. All the ingredients are there for Belgium to make an impact in this tournament, and there is no reason for Wilmots to expect anything less than three points from this opening game. Algeria finished last in Group C in 2010, claiming one point and failing to score a goal in three games. The team will hope for a better showing this year with Sofiane Feghouli at the heart of things in midfield. The Valencia man must provide service for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, who is Algerias biggest goal threat, while 19-year-old Nabil Bentaleb is another player to watch in midfield after making a strong debut this past season with Tottenham in the English Premier League. Algeria is captained by veteran defender Madjid Bougherra, and he will have his hands full with the plethora of attacking options in the Belgium side. If Algeria is able to take anything from this match, it will be a big surprise and will change the landscape in Group H. Brazil aims to seize control of Group A against Mexico - 3pm et/Noon pt (TSN 1050, TSN 690, TSN 1260, TEAM 1410) Fortaleza, Brazil - After a fairly straight-forward opening victory last Thursday, host nation Brazil will shoot for its second straight win in Group A play against Mexico at the Estadio Castelao. Brazil got its World Cup campaign off to a flying start last week, easing to a 3-1 victory over Croatia at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo despite a less- than-stellar overall performance. The hosts fell behind early after a cross from the left flank by Ivica Olic that was mishandled by Nikica Jelavic, but the ball was directed home by Brazil defender Marcelo for the own goal. Brazil remained patient despite the early hole and grabbed the equalizer in the 29th minute as Neymar ran onto a pass from Oscar following a giveaway in midfield and fired a low strike that trickled past Croatian goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa. The match then fully turned in the direction of Brazil when the hosts were handed a questionable penalty decision after Fred went down in the area under minimaal contact from Croatian defender Dejan Lovren.dddddddddddd. Neymar converted the ensuing spot kick to give Brazil the lead in the 71st minute. Croatia pushed in search of a tying goal and came close on several occasions only to be denied by a few key saves from Julio Cesar. But Brazils day would not be ruined as Oscar wrapped up the affair in stoppage time, poking a home a shot from outside the box following a counterattack to hand the hosts the win by a flattering score line. Neymar was thrilled with the result following the match. "It was better than I thought," he said.. "I was hoping that wed win, but to be able to debut in a World Cup with a brace is an unmeasurable joy." Mexico is also looking for a second win in Group A after squeezing past Cameroon, 1-0, on Friday in Natal. Miguel Herreras side was hard done early in the match as two goals were disallowed, but they eventually found the only goal of the contest in the 61st minute. Giovani Dos Santos, who had the early goals taken off the board, had a hand in creating the games only tally when he split the defense and fired a low shot on goal that was stopped by Cameroon goalkeeper Charles Itandje, but Oribe Peralta arrived late to tuck home the rebound. "Despite difficult circumstances, we managed to push forward and put on a nice display," Dos Santos said. "Playing at the World Cup is always a unique experience, and Im grateful to the coach for the trust he placed in me. I feel good - Im happy and motivated." Russia squares off with Korea in Group H tilt - 6pm et/3pm pt (TSN 1050, TSN 1200, TEAM 1410) Cuiaba, Brazil - Fabio Capello returns to the World Cup as manager of Russia, and his side will open Group H play against South Korea at the Arena Pantanal on Tuesday. Capello crashed out of the 2010 World Cup as boss of England in the round of 16, which was a big disappointment for the Three Lions. But the Italian is back on the big stage with Russia, a team that is making its first appearance at the World Cup since 2002. South Korea, meanwhile, has become a fixture at the tournament, reaching the World Cup for the eighth successive time. However, if Koreas qualifying campaign is any indication of where the team is at, they could be making a brief stay in Brazil. South Korea endured a poor qualification cycle that saw the side lose twice to Iran as well as once to Lebanon. But now that Korea has come through it, the Taegeuk Warriors are hoping for a fresh start. Hong Myung-Bo has since taken charge of the team and the former player will try to get the most out of a young side that is in a bit of a transition period. Hong is the most-capped player in South Koreas history, and he was a member of the 2002 side that reached the semifinals of the World Cup, so he knows a thing or two about winning. However, it is tough to see the Koreans having the same kind of success this year, although a favorable draw in Group H gives them a good chance to finish second. The strength of this team is in the midfield with Sunderlands Ki Sung- Yueng and Cardiff Citys Kim Bo-Kyung pulling the strings, and this match with Russia will go a long way toward determining who goes through to the next round. Capellos side has plenty of experience, but the question in this match will be whether they have the legs to keep up with the youthful Koreans. Veterans Sergei Ignashevich and Vasili Berezutski will hold things down in the back for Capello, while Alan Dzagoev controls the midfield. Two players to watch for Russia up top are Aleksander Kokorin and Aleksandr Kerzhakov, who will need to play well for Russia to have a chance at reaching the knockout round. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Bases loaded in the first inning, none out and Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista at the plate. A recipe for disaster for most pitchers. Especially a teenage thrower. But it turned into a day to remember for 17-year-old starter Ben Onyshko who managed to hold Bautista and his US$14-million annual salary to a sacrifice fly. The Winnipeg native got out of the inning without further damage and yielded just two runs on four hits over his three innings for the Canadian junior baseball team. "The experience of a lifetime," Onyshko said after leaving the game tied 2-2. The young Canadians took it on the chin after that. A Toronto Blue Jays split squad rallied for three runs in the fifth inning, four in the seventh and three in the eighth en route to a 12-2 victory over the Canadian juniors Tuesday under the sunshine at Al Lang Field. Onyshko, who has accepted a scholarship to Stetson University, said he tried to just focus on the task at hand in the first when Bautista came to the plate after two walks and a Moises Sierra single. "Ive got to admit my mind was racing a little bit," the left-hander said with a smile. "It was surreal." "I was scared for a split second when he (Bautista) hit the ball. Once I was able to get that first out, I think things started to roll a bit better. I settled in." Onyshko, who recorded one strikeout, had his parents and sister looking on in the stands. Jays starter Brandon Morrow, not helped by a Colby Rasmus error, gave up two runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked three. Morrow, who threw 47 pitches, was happy with his split-fingered delivered but called his command of the fast ball "terrible." "I was getting frustrated with myself out there, if you didnt notice," he said dryly. Morrow was followed by Sergio Santos, Steve Delabar and Aaron Sanchez. Onyshko gave way to Zach Pop of Brampton, Ont., J.P. Stevenson of Hunter River, P.E.I., and Isaac Anesty of Guelph, Ont. The Jays finished with 12 hits to seven for the Canadians, who were tagged with three errors. Delabar got the win and Sanchez the save while Pop took the loss. Toronto broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fifth off Pop, with Canadian Brett Lawrie sparking the charge with a double. A Canadian error helped the Toronto cause. Highly touted outfielder Gareth Morgan of Toronto singled, walked and struck out for the young Canadians. While other major league teams tend to put up prospects against the Canadian juniors, Toronto brought out some stars as well as a bevy of its own young Canadian talent. Bautista, Adam Lind, Rasmus, Dioner Navarro and Munenori Kawasaki were in a starting lineup that also included Canadians Lawrie (Langley, B.C.) and Dalton Pompey (Mississauga, Ont). Lawrie, who used to be part of the Baseball Canada program, was 2-for-3 on the day. Other Canadians who saw action for the Jays included Michael Crouse of Port Moody, B.C., Markus Knecht of Toronto, Justin Atkinson of Surrey, B.C., Mike Reeves of Peterborough, Ont., and Mike Nickeas of Vancouver. It was no ordinary spring training game. Players from both teams mingled for a group photograph in the outfield before the first pitch, with Kawasaki and Bautista sticking around for their own shot surrounded by the young Canadians. Bautista also gave the Canadian teens a pep talk. The Canadian juniors play in the fall instructional league against young major league talent before their spring series in Florida in March and April. This year, the Florida opposition includes teams from the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals as well as the Jays. In May, the Canadians take part in the Dominican Summer League. The idea is to expose the young players to a professional environment and competition. The Canadian schedule is built around a qualifying tournament in Mexico in September for the 2015 world junior championships in Japan. Canada is bidding to become one of four teams to emerge from the Americas. With John Gibbons leading another Jays squad in Lakeland, Fla., against the Detroit Tigers, first-base coach Tim Leiper served as manager in St. Petersburg. Leiper has Canadian ties. He managed in the Montreal Expos organization, including a stint at the helm of the triple-A Ottawa Lynx of the International League in 2002. He also served as a coach on the 2004 Canadian Olympic team as well as Canadas 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic squads. He was part of the Baseball Canada staff that won bronze medals at both the 2008 and 2011 Baseball World Cups and gold in the 2011 Pan-American Games. Leiper joined the Jays coaching staff in the off-season after spending the past year as a special assistant to player development in the Toronto system. Michael Kors Black Friday Sale . The pair also spoke to how P.K. Subban might deal with a reduced role on the team, the make-up of the Canadian defence and whether or not players currently on the fringes - like forwards Chris Kunitz and Martin St. Louis will make the squad. Goaltenders: Carey Price, Roberto Luongo and Mike Smith Defence: (Left) - (Right) Duncan Keith - Drew Doughty Jay Bouwmeester - Shea Weber Marc-Edouard Vlasic - Alex Pietrangelo Dan Boyle (R) - P.K. Subban Forwards: (Left Wing - Centre - Right Wing) Logan Couture - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos Jamie Benn - Jonathan Toews - Corey Perry Matt Duchene - Ryan Getzlaf - Claude Giroux Patrick Sharp - John Tavares - Rick Nash Patrice Bergeron - Martin St. Louis Fighting for Positions: Forwards: Eric Staal, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Marleau and Jeff Carter Defence: Mark Giordano, Dan Hamhuis, Marc Staal and Brent Seabrook Considering the minutes he logs and the role he plays for the Montreal Canadiens, can P.K. Subban be a seventh or eighth defenceman for Canada? Dreger: If you ask P.K. Subban, hell say absolutely - "Just name me to the team and Ill worry about where I fit in when we get to Russia and we start competing in the Games." But from a management or coaching perspective, Team Canada has to ask the question. Youre a big minute guy for the Montreal Canadiens - are you okay with being a bit player - if you will - not playing in games and being used sparingly if all the defencemen on Team Canada remain healthy? Again, I believe that the answer is yes. P.K. just wants to make this team. Back in the summer, Team Canada coach Mike Babcock said hed like four right defencemen and four left defencemen. Do you think it will end up that way? McKenzie: I think its likely that its going to be four lefts and four rights and that might be problematic for P.K. p;Subban or Brent Seabrook or Dan Boyle, one of the very good right defencemen.dddddddddddd. But I think this is what Mike Babcock wants. Now in the final analysis, do they maybe change their minds and go with two rights and go with Subban and Seabrook as your seventh and eighth defencemen? I suppose thats a possibility, but I dont think theres any question that Mike Babcock would prefer four lefts and four rights. Chris Kunitz is having a great year alongside Sidney Crosby and hes listed as "fighting for a position." Can he win over the decision makers? Dreger: I think he can, but its going to be a really difficult decision and the next round of decisions will be made on Monday. And dont be surprised if Kunitz becomes one of those players who is a final decision leading up to the announcement as late as Tuesday morning. Thats what its going to come down to. Statistically, hes made a very strong case. Is he better than Patrick Sharp? Is he better than Matt Duchene or Jamie Benn? And what happens, God forbid, if Sidney Crosby goes down? Can Chris Kunitz be as effective without No. 87? Steve Yzerman did not pick Martin St. Louis for the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, but now hes the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis has been a superstar for him. Is there any way he cant pick St. Louis? McKenzie: I cant imagine that Martin St. Louis is not going to be on this team and when I look at that right wing position and you see St. Louis competing for a spot, I can see possibly four guys ahead of him - Steven Stamkos, Claude Giroux, Corey Perry and Rick Nash. I believe that those four guys will be on the team, but I also think in the final analysis, with Stamkos out and St. Louis absolutely carrying the Tampa Bay Lightning, I cant imagine that Steve Yzerman can do anything but make St. Louis one of the 14 forwards. If thats the case and there are five guys on the right, then youve got seven guys - Logan Couture, Jamie Benn, Matt Duchene, Patrick Marleau, Patrick Sharp, Eric Staal and Chris Kunitz - with only four who can make it. Thats the kind of difficult decision that people will have to make. Hockey Canada announces its mens team for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games on Tuesday. TORONTO - Josh Donaldson estimates hes watched thousands of hours of Jose Bautista game tape, modelling his swing — right down to the leg kick — after the Toronto Blue Jays star right-fielder.The two became teammates in a late-night trade Friday, creating what Donaldson said could be the most potent lineup in Major League Baseball this season.I spoke to (Bautista) at the all-star game and let him know Ive studied a lot of his work, and really appreciate what hes accomplished up to this point in his career, Donaldson said on a conference call Saturday. The third baseman called Bautista one of the best outfielders and hitters in all of baseball.I feel like this team is going to be so talented, he said. Its going to be nice, and its also going to be interesting to see what happens because I feel like its going to be a pretty fun year. The 28-year-old was home simultaneously playing some old-school Mortal Kombat and watching the Golf Channel on Friday night, when his phone alerted him to the news. He was headed to Toronto in a shocking deal that sent Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie, plus shortstop Franklin Barreto and pitchers Sean Nolin and Kendall Graveman, to the Oakland Athletics. My phone started exploding. I decided to check it out, Donaldson said. The first text I see is Blue Jays I was like Yup, I just got traded. The 28-year-old Donaldson virtually came out of nowhere in 2012, and finished eighth in AL MVP voting this year after hitting .255 for Oakland with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs. A right-handed hitter, Donaldson had a .342 on-base percentage while finishing sixth in the American League with 76 walks. He has a career batting average of .268 with 63 home runs and 228 RBIs and a .347 on-base percentage in 405 games.Donaldson said the trade was a little bit ahead of schedule, but he hopes to bring a habit of winning to Toronto.Ever since I was five years old, my teams have won, the all-star said. Im not saying that its necessarily just me thats causing that, but I think theres a mentality about winning. I just hope to be able to come in and instil that winning mentality.Donaldson already had fond feelings for Toronto after making his debut in the majors here in 2010, recording his first major league hit, a two-run home run, at Rogers Centre.I remember Toronto was a great place, a great city, its just one of those melting pots, you kind of have a little bit of everything in Toronto, he said. Every time Ive been there its been very beautiful and Ive enjoyed my time there.Donaldson said he believes that the bold move by Alex Anthopoulos shows the Jays GM is determined to turn the team around immediately.Last week, Anthopoulos signed star catcher Russell Martin as a free agent.I 100 per cent can say theyre trying to win right now, Donaldson said. What theyre also trying to do is prepare themselves for the future, and Russell Martin has a long-term deal. . . With (Marcus) Stroman and a couple of guys on that staff, they have a young nucleus of pitchers who are very talented. So I definitely think the elements are there to win, its just about going out there and playing the game.Donaldson, known also for his sure-handed, athletic defending, said playing on the punishing turf of Rogers Centre could take some getting used to after the grass of Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. He has a bit of experience with Torontos turf after playing a three-game series here. He switched up his cleats between hitting and playing defence, to help soften some of the pounding. It helped, because the third game I played there in a row, I was definitely starting to feel that I was playing on turf, Donaldson said. And then whenever I decided Hey, Im going to start changing my shoes from defence to offence, it really made a significant difference in how my body was feeling. So, its going to take some getting used to. I definitely believe that I can do it and I will do it. So I really think it will be a non-issue.Hours after the deal, Donaldson said he was still a little shocked. But I tell you what, he said. Somebody Id seen on Twitter or something the other day, somebody had put me in one of those Toronto Blue Jays uniforms, the all-whites, and I tell you what, those uniforms are pretty sexy.Lawrie, meanwhile, sent a note to Toronto fans via Twitter on Saturday. You fans made my time in Toronto unforgettable, the native of Langley, B.C., said in a note posted as a photo. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to play in my own backyard with the (Maple Leaf) on my chest every day. It was a blessing and it will be truly missed!New chapter is upon me, he added, and I intend to make it worth it!!!!! Nike Air Huarache Triple Black For Sale . Coach Rick Adelman was playing him only as a matter of last resort despite a glaring need for help off the bench, and Williams was growing increasingly frustrated with the sporadic minutes.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Sabres headed into the Christmas break playing their best hockey of the season. It was pretty much the opposite for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Catch all the action on TSN and TSN Radio 1050 at 7:30pm et /4:30pm pt. The Sabres will shoot for a fourth win in five games when they visit the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs in Fridays Atlantic Division battle at Air Canada Centre. Toronto lost seven out of nine heading into the Christmas break, but the club at least has managed to earn points in three straight outings. The Maple Leafs have gone to the shootout phase in each of their last three games, beating Phoenix on Dec. 19 before losing consecutive tilts against Detroit and the New York Rangers. The Maple Leafs seemed on the verge of a regulation defeat Monday in New York City, but they came up with a controversial goal after Rangers forward Chris Kreider was sent off for shooting the puck over the glass with 3:34 remaining in the third period. New York goaltender Cam Talbot appeared to cover up David Clarksons chance in-close on the man advantage, but the whistle never blew and Nazem Kadri alertly pushed the puck over the line to make it a 1-1 game with only 84 seconds to go in regulation. However, Derek Stepan and Mats Zuccarello each scored for the Rangers during the shootout, while Joffrey Lupul scored Torontos lone goal in the decisive segment. Kadri had a chance to extend the shootout for Toronto, but was denied by Talbot. Toronto fell for the ninth time in its last 10 road games despite a terrific 42-save performance from Jonathan Bernier. "Our goaltender stood on his head," Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle remarked. "Thats all you can ask in a game like this one.&quoot; The Leafs are 12-8-1 as the home team this season compared to a 6-8-4 record on the road.dddddddddddd Although Buffalo is still last in the NHL with 23 points, the club has recorded four of its 10 wins this season over the last seven games. The Sabres latest victory, Mondays 2-1 overtime win against visiting Phoenix, came with a little bit of luck, as Buffalo was the beneficiary of a bizarre play in the extra session. Mark Pysyk fired a shot from near the right circle 3:47 into the extra session which was initially stopped by Coyotes goalie Mike Smith, but the puck bounced straight up into the air and was batted down by a Phoenix defender and landed in the back of Smiths pants. Smith, unaware of the disc wedged in his pants, turned and slid backwards into the net carrying the puck across the goal line for the game-winner. "I saw it come down and figured it landed. I didnt know where it went from there, but I saw he was in the net and figured it was in," said Pysyk. Tyler Ennis scored the game-tying goal 14:01 into the final session for the Sabres. Ryan Miller made 36 saves in the win. Although Buffalo has picked up the pace recently, the club still enters Friday on an eight-game road losing streak. The Sabres, who last won as the guest on Nov. 5 in San Jose, are just 3-12-1 on the road this season. The Sabres have not fared well in Toronto recently either, losing two straight and seven of the last eight encounters at Air Canada Centre. Buffalo, however, has won three of the past four meetings overall. Buffalo hopes to have leading scorer Cody Hodgson back tonight after the centerman missed the last two games due to an upper-body injury. Hodgson has eight goals and 11 assists to pace the Sabres with 19 points. MANCHESTER, England -- The two Manchester clubs slumped to shock defeats and Arsenal moved two points clear with a win at Swansea on Saturday, extending the unpredictable start to the English Premier League. Five months after capturing a 20th English title, Manchester United is languishing in 12th place in the 20-team standings after losing 2-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion in the latest setback to hit David Moyes troubled first season in charge. Amid its worst six-game start to a league season since 1989, United slipped eight points behind Arsenal after the London club beat Swansea 2-1 for an eighth straight away victory in the league. The only solace for United on an action-packed day was neighbour Manchester City enduring similar misery by sinking 3-2 at Aston Villa. With the Manchester giants showing fluctuating form, their rivals from London are taking full advantage. Tottenham is two points behind in second after drawing 1-1 at home to third-place Chelsea in an entertaining match that saw Fernando Torres sent off for the visitors. "Im concerned after todays result, but only because we didnt play well," said Moyes, whose team took another blow six days after losing 4-1 to City in the derby. "But there are a lot of games to go and Ill try to put it right." Even promoted teams Cardiff and Hull are above United after six games. Cardiff won its first away match of the season, 2-1 at Fulham, and Hull edged West Ham 1-0. But another newcomer, Crystal Palace, lost 2-0 at Southampton, which is adding to the surprise factor this season by sitting in fourth place. Sunderland is lodged to the bottom on one point ahead of Sundays game against Liverpool. Unbeaten Everton hosts Newcastle on Monday. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey maintained his stunning start to the season by setting up Serge Gnabrys opener in the 58th then scoring himself four minutes later at Liberty Stadium. Ben Davies cut the deficit in the 81st but Arsenal held on and is confounding expectations. "We have a lot of quality," said Ramsey, who has scored eight goals in nine matches this season. "Weve had a lot of injuries recently but weve managed to dig in and put a load of wins together and hopefully now we get players back and were in with a shout (of winning the title)." West Brom fully deserved its first win at United in 35 years, with Saido Berahino clinching victory with a 67th-minute strike from the edge of the box that finished off a flowing team move. Wayne Rooneys free kick score cancelled out Morgan Amalfitanos stylish solo goal, but a United side missing several regular first-team stars with a Champions League match at Shakhtar Donetsk in mind struggled throughout. Moyes team hasnt scored from open play since the first day of the season. City was toasting derby glory last weekend, but was brought to earth by the loss at Villa to drop to fifth. City twice threw away the lead given by Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko before Andreas Weimann struck Villas winner to leave the visitors without an away win this season. "We played very well and deserved to win, but in five minutes (when Villa scored twice) we threw away everything good we did in the rest of the match," City manager Manuel Pellegrini said. "The way we lost this game was incredible." Tottenham showed it should be held up as a genuine title contender by holding Chelsea to a draw at White Hart Lane, although it will be disappointed the team couldnt kick on after Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring in the first half. Chelsea seized the initiative in the second half, with John Terry equalizing with a header from Juan Matas free kick but hopes of victory receded with around 10 minutes to go when Torres was shown a second yellow card for an aerial collision with Jan Vertonghen. "Im sad because the game was good," Mourinho said. "In the first half it was not such a good Chelsea, in the second half Chelsea was not good -- Chelsea was very, very good." Cardiff inflicted more misery on Fulham manager Martin Jol after substitute Jordon Mutch curled home the winner in the second minute of injury time. Steven Caulkers opener for Cardiff in the 12th had been cancelled out in the 45th by substitute Bryan Ruiz. Robbie Brady won and converted a 12th-minute penalty for Hull while Pablo Osvaldo and Rickie Lambert -- with his 200th league goal -- were the scorers for Southampton. Ignazio Abate AC Milan Maglia . Rays manager Joe Maddon said after a 7-3 loss to the Royals that the team was still awaiting results from another series of tests. Moore was getting a second opinion from Andrews after an MRI exam performed in Kansas City proved to be inconclusive. Maddon did say that it appears the ligaments in Moores elbow were not fully torn. If that was the case, season-ending surgery would be a foregone conclusion. "There is no surgery tomorrow. Thats not planned. I can tell you that," Maddon said. "We need to get all the facts and see how we want to proceed with this, see if surgery is necessary or if its not necessary. Were still waiting to find out." Moore was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, one day after feeling discomfort in his elbow during a loss to the Royals. Moore conceded at tthe time that surgery "is a possibility.dddddddddddd." Moore was dynamic for the Rays last season, going 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA, even though he was on the disabled list from July 31 to Sept. 3 because of soreness in his elbow. "I would say its quite a bit different in how it feels, in how it dangles, with regards to soreness," Moore said before Tuesday nights game. "The discomfort is similar. The severity has jumped from what I was feeling. Its frustrating." Many pitchers have been able to play several seasons with a partially torn ligament, though they often end up undergoing Tommy John surgery eventually. "We are waiting with baited breath," Rays general manager Andrew Friedman said. The Rays recalled left-hander Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham to fill Moores roster spot Tuesday. He appeared in Wednesdays game and was sent back to Durham afterward. Tampa Bay will make another roster move before a weekend series in Cincinnati. PRETORIA, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius was taken away in a police van with barred windows Tuesday to start serving a five-year prison sentence for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Delivering her sentence, Judge Thokozile Masipa cited the gross negligence the double-amputee Olympic runner showed when he shot Steenkamp multiple times through a toilet cubicle door in his home. Pistorius, who had cried and wretched during his trial, was unemotional as he stood to hear his sentence. His prison term begins immediately and he was led down a flight of stairs and toward holding cells before leaving the South African courthouse in the armoured vehicle. Pistorius could be released after 10 months in jail to serve the remainder under house arrest, according to legal experts. Steenkamps parents were also in court to hear the sentence and the dead models mother, June, said justice had been done. A close friend of Steenkamp, Gina Myers, said: I really dont think any of us will heal anytime soon ... there will always be questions. Pistorius uncle, Arnold Pistorius, said: Oscar will embrace this opportunity to pay back to society. He appealed to reporters to give the family privacy after what he called 20 months of relentless public trial. Pistorius uncle also criticized state prosecutors for pursuing a premeditated charge against Pistorius, and said they decided to inflict as much collateral damage as they could. Masipa said her sentence was a balancing act between retribution and clemency. I am of the view that a non-custodial sentence would send a wrong message to the community, Masipa said after summarizing parts of the case and explaining why she reached her decision. On the other hand, a long sentence would not be appropriate either as it would lack the element of mercy. Masipa last month convicted Pistorius of culpable homicide, but acquitted him of murder after he testified he mistook Steenkamp for a nighttime intruder. She asked Pistorius to stand as she delivered the sentence Tuesday, and he faced her with his hands clasped in front of him. Pistorius was then led away by police, stopping briefly to grip the hands of his uncle and other family members as he headed to prison. Pistorius defence and the prosecution have 14 days to lodge any appeal against the judges decision. Prosecutors said they are considering whether to appeal the sentence, where Pistorius, 27, could serve less than a year in jail for killing his 29-year-old girlfriend. Nathi Mncube, the prosecution spokesman, said his office was disappointed in the culpable homicide conviction and had not yet decided whether to appeal the sentence. We have not made up our minds whether were going to appeal it or not, he said. He added that there was an appetite to appeal but that prosecutors would review their options. We are satisfied with the fact that he will be serving some time in prison, Mncube said. Masipa had a wide range of options available to her because South Africa does not have a minimum sentence for culpable homicide, which is comparable to manslaughter. Pistorius faced up to 15 years in jail, but could also have received a completely suspended sentence or house arrest. Marius du Toit, a legal analyst and criminal defence lawyer, said Pistorius would have to serve one-sixth of his sentence in prison -- 10 months -- before he could be eligible to be moved to house arrest. Its an appropriate sentence, du Toit said. He said a higher sentence would have been impossible because you cannot elevate the sentence to murder. Another analyst, law professor Kelly Phelps, said Judge Masipa had done a remarkable job at balancing all of the competing interests that were weighing down on her. As Pistorius left in the police van, a raucous crowd gathered around the vehicle, whistling, shouting and banging on the caged windows. Nike Free 3.0 v5 Hardloopschoenen Dames . Andrew Cogliano scored the go-ahead goal at 14:41 as Anaheim scored twice in the third period in a 3-2 victory over the resilient Flames. "Thats one of the biggest two points of the season, for sure," said Cogliano. "To come back from behind in the third period, it shows where were going as a team and I think its a big statement win for us." Stephane Robidas shot from the blue-line was kicked out by Karri Ramo but the puck went right to Cogliano at the face-off circle, who buried his 21st of the season. "Right place at the right time. It landed right on my stick. When I saw the net, no better feeling," said Cogliano, who put a shot off the post just minutes earlier. "Those are the goals were trying to score, especially myself. Getting to the net, getting some rebounds." Finishing it off wasnt easy, however. The Flames poured on the pressure in the final minute with the goalie pulled. Mike Cammalleris blast came the closest to getting past Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller, but the Ducks hung on. "Its one of those things where theyre just throwing everything at the net and youre trying to find the puck somehow. I found it once or twice there so we could at least get a whistle," said Hiller, who had 32 saves. It was a nice bounce-back game for him after getting chased less than 12 minutes into the last start at the Scotiabank Saddledome after yielding three goals on five shots. "The whole team was upset with what happened last time. I didnt feel I played terribly or whatever but those things happen and its nice if you get a chance pretty quick to do better," said Hiller. "Definitely happy with the way we responded and the way I responded. I thought we played a pretty good road game." Nick Bonino and Mathieu Perreault also scored for Anaheim (47-18-7), which kicks off a three-game road trip to Western Canada with its sixth road win in its last eight games away from the Honda Center. The win moves the Ducks to within two points of the San Jose Sharks and the lead in the Pacific Division. Anaheim still holds two games in hand. Hiller says winning the division is definitely a priority. "It would be great to be up there because if youre second, you have a good chance of playing L.A. in the first round which would be a tough match-up," Hiller said. Brian McGrattan and Jiri Hudler scored for Calgary (30-36-7). Rookie defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon had an assist to give the 21-year-old points inn his last three games.dddddddddddd "Thats the way you learn sometimes, too. You learn from tough losses," said McGrattan, who was playing his 300th NHL game. "Our group hasnt given up all year. Were in every game and work our butts off right until the end and thats a good sign." Its the Flames league-leading 44th one-goal game, one shy of the franchise record set in 2005-06. "If you look at the young guys throughout the year, how theyre showing up against these teams late in the year when were playing San Jose, L.A., Anaheim — were playing all these top teams down the stretch and were giving them a run for the money every night. Thats a lot to build off of as a group and its a lot to learn from," said McGrattan. Trailing 2-1 headed to the third period, the Ducks tied it at 5:32 on Perreaults 16th goal. "We fought hard in the third and got a couple bounces our way and finally we were able to put it in and win the game," said Perreault, who extended his point streak to six games (four goals, two assists). "Coming down the stretch, we play a couple teams that are already out of the playoffs. We have to take advantage of those games." Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Flames scored twice in the second to take the lead. The tying goal, which bounced off Kevin Westgarths glove in front and then into the net off of McGrattans hip was the rugged wingers fourth goal and 10th of his career. Calgary took a 2-1 lead with 26 seconds left in the second when a pretty fake shot then pass from Ladislav Smid set up Hudler. "Its a good effort. We know we can play with every team in the league but its not good enough — a good effort, we have to get results too. Thats the business of hockey," said Ramo, who had won his previous five decisions. Ramo, who had 31 stops, had his record fall to 13-11-4. Hiller improves to 29-11-6. "They paid the price and when they came to the net, they had a lot of shots and a lot of traffic with them," said Ramo. "They were into the game today, unlike the last game. I think they had a chip on their shoulders when they came here today." Notes: On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the trade of Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh, the two players they received in return - LW Kenny Agostino and RW Ben Hanowski, were both healthy scratches for the Flames... Calgary LW TJ Galiardi drew back in after missing the past two games... Not in the line-up for Anaheim were D Francois Beauchemin, C Daniel Winnik and LW Matt Beleskey... Stephane Robidas shot from the blue-line was kicked out by Karri Ramo but the puck went right to Cogliano at the face-off circle, who buried his 21st of the season. Anaheims 22nd road victory ties the franchise record, previously done in 2006-07 and in 2008-09. The 25-year-old made 24 saves -- including 12 in the third period with Toronto clinging to a one-goal lead -- as the Marlies held off the Chicago Wolves 4-2 in the American Hockey League on Saturday. "He was good, he played well," said Marlies coach Dallas Eakins. "Thats a strong team over there and for Jussi to battle through the third period, when we didnt have a lot of confidence in the defensive zone, thats a big victory for him." It was the fourth consecutive start for Rynnas, who had won just one of his previous four decisions. "If you want to win, you need a goalie wholl make some big saves," Rynnas said. "I made a few good saves today. "Youve got to show that youre worth it when the coach gives you the start. I have to get a little better, more consistent, but if I can play like I did today, thats good." Torontos Mike Zigomanis and Joe Colborne scored on the power play, while Jesse Blacker had the game-winner and Carter Ashton added an empty-netter as the Marlies improved to 25-15-4 in front of 5,399 fans at Ricoh Coliseum. Colborne and Blacker each assists, while Jake Gardiner chipped in with a pair of his own. "Colborne was engaged today," Eakins said. "He played very well, he recognized danger, he protected the puck and hes willing to take it to the net. This kid isnt going away." Bill Sweatt and Andrew Gordon replied for Chicago (23-16-5). Darren Haydar contributed two assists. Chicago goalie Matt Climie blocked 20 of 23 shots for the loss. The Marlies led 1-0 after the firrst period and were ahead 3-1 through 40 minutes.dddddddddddd Toronto was 2-for-5 with the man advantage, while Chicago went 0-for-2. Chicago scored early in the third period and outshot Toronto 12-7 in the final frame, but Rynnas was sharp in making a couple of point-blank saves with the game on the line. "Hes earned (a chance at the starting job)," Eakins said. "Were looking for somebody to take over for Ben Scrivens (whos in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs). Rynnas has been here for a few years, as long as anybody else in the organization. "Hes worked hard, hes done his best, hes earned his shot. And were doing our best to keep going back to him and hoping he gets back to playing his best, night after night." Zigomanis opened the scoring when he finished off a give-and-go with Tim Connolly by one-timing a shot past Climies blocker for a power-play goal at 16:27 of the first period. Colborne gave the Marlies a 2-0 lead when he squeezed a wraparound between Climies skate and the post for another power-play marker at 4:28 of the second period. The Wolves closed the gap less than a minute later when Sweatt one-timed a high shot from the slot past Rynnas at 5:14. Blacker made it 3-1 for Toronto when he wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Climie at 14:17 of the second. Gordon pulled the Wolves to within a goal when he snapped a wrist shot past Rynnas at 5:23 of the third period. Ashton closed out the scoring when he deposited an empty-netter at 18:55 to seal the game for the Marlies. RECIFE, Brazil -- Mario Balotelli couldnt care less if hes mentioned in the same breath as Neymar or Lionel Messi at this World Cup -- as long as he comes away with the trophy. Having scored the winning goal in Italys 2-1 victory over England and now getting ready for Fridays match against Costa Rica, the temperamental forward has gained more attention than any other Azzurri player in Brazil. "I hope this is Italys World Cup, not Marios. Im not really interested in being compared with the big stars," Balotelli said Thursday. "In the end its the squad that wins. I dont want to be a big star. I want to win the World Cup." "Personally, I want to score as many goals as possible," he added at the official pre-match news conference. "But the important thing is that the squad wins and advances." Wearing a black cap turned backward and a total of three diamond earrings -- two on his right ear, one on the left -- Balotelli was his usual candid self. Asked if he minds being the lone forward in coach Cesare Prandellis 4-1-4-1 formation, Balotelli snapped back: "As long as I play." This is a first World Cup for Balotelli, who helped lead Italy to the 2012 European Championship final. "This is the biggest event of my career and I want to give my all," he said. "The World Cup is more important than the Golden Ball, the Champions League or the scudetto (Serie A title), so its only normal that it creates a spark inside of you." Balotelli has made headlines almost from the moment he landed in Brazil, first by proposing to his Belgian girlfriend on a moon-lit beach in the week leading up to the England match. "The proposal had nothing to do with the World Cup," Balotelli said. "The proposal would have occurred even without the World Cup." Balotelli is coming off an up-and-down club season with AC Milan and has been the subject of rampant transfer speculation in recent weeks. There have been reports that Arsenal is offering Milan a (euro)30 million ($40 million) transfer fee, and a contract for Balotelli worth 180,000 pounds (more than $300,000) per week. "My focus is 100 per cent on the World Cup," he said. "I dont know what will happen afterward. I dont know anything." While he does appear focused, Balotelli was not prepared for questions about Costa Ricas players. For example, what does he think about Keylor Navas, who had a strong season with Levante and is considered one of the top goalkeepers in the Spanish league? "Honestly, Im unprepared for this question because I havent seen the Costa Rica goalkeeper," he responded. OK, so what impressed him about Costa Ricas defence in a 3-1 win over Uruguay? "I saw the match but to be sincere I didnt study the players," Balotelli said. "Ill watch them tonight." That was the point when Prandelli butted in and offered help. "If you want, I can answer about all of the players," the coach told a Costa Rican journalist with a smile. Costa Rica defender Giancarlo Gonzalez, however, wasnt amused. "We will let the world know that we are here," Gonzalez said. Sitting right next to Balotelli, Prandelli managed to analyze his prized players hot and cold streaks as if he were there alone. "If you look at Mario in these four years there have been moments of alarm," Prandelli said. "One moment hes the man whos going to bring you to the top of the world and then a moment later he shouldnt even be at the World Cup." "The important thing for us is for him to stay focused and play like he did in the last match," Prandelli added. "If he does that for 90 minutes he could be decisive. He needs to give 100 per cent." The Cubs purchased the contract of Ramon Ortiz from Triple-A Iowa to start Tuesday nights game against the Washington Nationals. Ortiz last pitched in the majors on May 19, 2010, for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ortiz was 6-3 with a 4.26 earned-run average for Iowa. He was needed because Carlos Zambrano is on the disabled list with a sore back. Four of Chicagos five starters from the opening day rotation have been on the disabled list this season. The last time the Cubs needed 10 starters before the all-star break was in 2006. Ortiz became the second starter in as many days to fill a sudden hole in the rotation. On Monday, Casey Coleman was recalled from Iowa and started against Washingtonn because Ryan Dempster was recovering from an abdominal ailment that had him hospitalized in Chicago over the weekend.dddddddddddd Cubs manager Mike Quade said Dempster is still day-to-day with a stiff lower back but the team is "hoping he can answer the bell" for his next scheduled start Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Also Tuesday, the Cubs placed right-handed reliever Marcos Mateo on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow. Mateo left in the 10th inning of Mondays game after he apparently injured himself on a ball-four pitch to Jayson Werth. Mateo was flown to Chicago and had an MRI on Tuesday, but the team doesnt expect to have the results for another day or two. The Cubs also flip-flopped the move they made Monday, recalling reliever Chris Carpenter from Iowa and optioning Coleman to the triple-A club.
