ST. LOUIS -- Ryan Miller was supposed to be the piece the St. Louis Blues needed to make a deep playoff run and perhaps at long last win a first Stanley Cup. The highly-decorated goalie was among those falling fall short for a franchise smarting from another early exit, and he might not be back. The team scheduled availabilities for general manager Doug Armstrong, coach Ken Hitchcock and players for Tuesday. Hitchcock deflected questions about the 34-year-old Miller, wholl be an unrestricted free agent, after the Blues were eliminated Sunday in Chicago. The Blues could opt to go with prospect Jake Allen, called the franchise goalie of the future by Armstrong when the Miller deal was made. "I dont get into long-term stuff. Thats Dougs department," Hitchcock said. "He played good for us. Im sure theres some goals that hed like to have back, just like any goalie would. We win as a team and lose as a team." Asked how he played, Miller said: "Im going to sit down and think about that. Not good enough, I guess." The Blues were among the NHLs best before a six-game losing streak to end the regular season landed them with a tougher first-round draw. For the second straight year they were knocked out in four straight by the defending Stanley Cup champion after taking a 2-0 series lead. Last season, it was the Kings. This time, it was Chicago. It was small consolation that before the Blackhawks four-goal third period in Game 6, the difference was razor-thin. The first five games were decided by one goal, discounting an empty-netter by the Blackhawks in the final minute of Game 3. "Youve got to bring your game every night, every shift, every period," captain David Backes said Sunday. "I sound like a broken record here. Finding ways to win those close games, they did and we didnt." Miller was acquired from Buffalo on Feb. 28 along with forward Steve Ott in a deal that cost the Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak, forward Chris Stewart and a first-round pick in 2015. He made $6.25 million last season. "Ive just got to take things as they come right now," he said, adding, "I guess Im free to go to my sister-in-laws wedding." Miller would like to stay, but acknowledged he wasnt sure how the Blues "feel about me." He had a 2.70 goals-against average and .897 save percentage in the series. Hitchcock wasnt pinning the teams failure on the goalie. He noted the Blackhawks split the defence on the go-ahead goal and the Blues surrendered a breakaway on the third goal, which he called "a back-breaker." Just as important, they couldnt capitalize on scoring chances. St. Louis was 2 for 29 on the power play in the series. "Ill take more than my share of the blame," Backes said. "Im counted on to produce and I didnt produce. Ill think about that a lot this summer and drive the engine going into next year." Injuries factored into the early exit. Backes missed two games with stiffness in his neck after an illegal hit by Brent Seabrook, who was suspended for three games. T.J Oshie also wasnt quite himself coming off a blow to the head late in the regular season and Patrik Berglund was no factor coming off a shoulder injury, scoreless and minus-7 in four games. Vladimir Tarasenko was a breakout star early in the series and had four goals, one of them forcing overtime with 6.4 seconds to go in Game 3. But he was scoreless the last two games. The Blues defence got burned on an ill-timed change in the pivotal Game 5, leading to Jonathan Toews overtime winner. Barret Jackman was minus-5, Jaden Schwartz minus-4. Backes, Oshie, Ott and Roman Polak were all minus-3. "We all need to look in the mirror and assess how we did and we didnt do, and take that gut check," Backes said. "No offence to you guys," he added to reporters, "but these interviews are getting a little sickening to have in April and not in June." Adidas Superstar East River . The moves were the first punitive steps taken by the Dolphins since a report on the NFLs investigation of the case was released last week. Investigators found that guard Richie Incognito and two teammates engaged in persistent harassment directed at tackle Jonathan Martin, another offensive lineman and an assistant trainer. http://www.adisuperstaruk.biz/adidas-neo-trainers.html . -- The Chicago Bears say an MRI taken Monday showed Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher suffered no major structural damage to his left knee in a season-ending win at Minnesota. NBA officials ruled the court unplayable in the Bucks final exhibition game on Oct. 25 because players were slipping, and the game was cancelled midway through the first period. Adidas Zx 700 Trainers - Pink/White .Y. - Defensive tackle Kyle Williams and linebacker Nigel Bradham missed their second day of practice because of knee injuries, leaving the two Buffalo Bills starters status uncertain to play at Detroit on Sunday.New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau has been selected as the NHLs Rookie of the Month for December, the league announced Friday. Gaudreau topped all rookies with eight goals and 13 points in 14 December games, highlighted by his first career hat trick in Calgarys 4-3 come-from- behind win over reigning Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles on Dec. 22. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- David Nelson was home in Texas and getting ready to head to a baseball game Monday night, when his agent called. Forget the Texas Rangers-Tampa Bay Rays wild-card tiebreaker, he told the wide receiver. "You should probably watch the football game," Nelson recalled him saying. "Because youre going to be playing next Monday night." The New York Jets signed Nelson on Wednesday, and the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver could make an immediate impact on a banged-up receiving corps. Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill could both be sidelined for the Jets game against the Falcons at Atlanta on Monday night, so Nelson might need to be ready to play despite just getting to his new team. "Im confident that I can, when it comes to Monday," Nelson said, "Ill know where to be and when to be there." Holmes tweaked a hamstring at Tennessee last Sunday and is expected to miss a few games. Hill suffered a concussion, and his status was uncertain. "I think David is going to be a big-time target for us," quarterback Geno Smith said. Nelson played with Buffalo from 2010-12 and caught 94 passes for 1,042 yards and eight touchdowns. He signed with Cleveland in the off-season but was among the Browns final cuts before the regular season. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Nelsons best season came in 2011, when he had 61 receptions for 658 yards and five touchdowns. "Ive never been involved in a West Coast system, per se," Nelson said about offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinwegs offence. "Routes are similar. Its just done in a little bit different manner as far as motioning and formations. But the routes are the same, so its just figuring out what routes go with what concept." He said hes completely healthy after he tore a ligament in his right knee in the Bills season opener last year -- against the Jets at MetLife Stadium. Nelson, who impressed the Jets during a workout last week, spent several hours working with receivers coach Sanjay Lal on Tuesday. Nelson said Smith also introduced himself and immediately took him to the film room to watch the Falcons offence together. "Hes a veteran guy, and youve got to get him up to speed in a hurry," coach Rex Ryan said. "I have no idea how much he knows of this system or anything else right now. But I know we had to defend against him. Hes a very capable receiver." In four games against the Jets, Nelson had 15 receptions for 189 yards and two TDs -- both in 2011. "I told him its good to finally be on his side so I dont have to worry about his schemes anymore," Nelson said he told Ryan. "And he turned around and said, Its good to have you on my side so I dont have to worry about scheming against you anymore. So, that was comforting and gave me a lot of confidence." Oh, and as far as that Rangers game, Nelson still went and watched Texas season end with a 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay. "Im a huge Rangers fan, and a huge baseball fan," Nelson said. "It was just a chance to celebrate with my brother and spend one last night in Dallas before it was back to the grind." wholesale nfl jerseys . -- Dustin Tokarski made 32 saves as the Norfolk Admirals extended their record winning streak to 21 games with a 2-0 victory over the St. nfl jerseys china . Who are some of the funniest teammates youve played with? Hartnell was pretty funny. Matt Greene, when I was in L.A. he was really funny it was comical.PHOENIX - Here are some scary thoughts for the rest of the NFL:A win Sunday will stamp the Seahawks as one of the best teams of the Super Bowl era. And, given Seattles makeup and philosophy, the future for the franchise might be brighter than for any other club.Rarely has a team with so many key young players been so formidable. The last such group might have been the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys of the early 1990s, when Dallas had the Triplets: future Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.Seattle has its own trio of All-Pros, but on defence: cornerback Richard Sherman, safety Earl Thomas and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. All are 26 or younger.Theyre complemented by young talent all over the lineup, from Kam Chancellor (26) in the secondary to linebacker K.J. Wright (25) to offensive leaders quarterback Russell Wilson (26), receivers Doug Baldwin (26) and Jermaine Kearse (25 next week), tight end Luke Willson (25) and a bunch of twenty-somethings on the line. All of them already have experienced the ultimate success on the field, and if they can beat New England for a second straight championship, the D word frequently will be thrown around. For us to win the Super Bowl back-to-back years, we definitely could be a team thats talked about as a dynasty, Wright says. Im glad that the core players of this team are still together. The more we continue to stay around here, the more championships well win.Very possibly. But its not just the talent coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have collected, and how quickly Seattle locked up key personnel with contracts; only Wilson and Wagner need to be re-signed among the elite players. Its the culture the Seahawks have developed.Unlike the Patriots, who emulate the approach of their reveal-nothing coach and front office, the Seahawks are free-wheeling. It some ways, they resemble a college team, which makes perfect sense: Before turning around the Seahawks, Carroll won two national titles at Southern Cal.While the methods of Bill Belichick clearly work in New England — no franchise has been more successful overall in the last 15 years — the Patriots last won a championship a decade ago. Although Tom Brady says he hopes to quarterback the team well into his 40s (hes 37), the current roster doesnt strike fear for the future the way Seattles might.Thats true even if the Patriots win Sunday in a dead-even game: The betting line is pick-em.ddddddddddddhere are a number of kind of tenets you know, but developing a really competitive roster, keeping it young, always trying to upgrade, Carroll says of the program hes installed in Seattle since arriving in 2010. That mentality is really pervading. It shows up everywhere. The style of play that we want, that we agreed to, about being a physical team and running the football and playing defence on teams. And with that thought, those are all just kind of the tenets that weve built it on and weve tried to remain uncommonly consistent in that commitment. I think thats at the core of everything. The Nolls and Landrys and, yes, Belichicks might scoff at the openness. But in the Gen X NFL, letting players be themselves, as Sherman says, could be the way to go.In a copycat league, if the Seahawks come through Sunday, whos to say Seattles approach wont be emulated? Lots of the Seahawks think so, even hope so.With championships in the bank and money to spend under the salary cap, the Pacific Northwest becomes an even more attractive landing spot. And that will be true even if — as expected — some of Carrolls assistants leave for promotions elsewhere this off-season.I know that the guys that are here really want to be here, and want to have the style of coaching, says centre Max Unger, a six-year veteran. I think that it really just focuses on what you do well and highlighting that within your position. Its just a positive mindset. And then theres the ultimate attraction: winning rings.Man, thats why I stayed because of being able to play in these types of games and just a chance to play on this team, says defensive end Michael Bennett, who left Tampa after four seasons, won a championship last year on a one-season deal, and then re-signed with the Seahawks. I mean, this team is full of energy, full of superstars, full of everybody who wants to be successful.I mean, money cant put a price on winning. I know a lot of guys who have made a lot of money and they are still upset that they cant be in this spotlight. Pro Bowls are one thing, MVP is one thing, but Super Bowl is a whole other atmosphere. When you win a Super Bowl, you get so much notoriety and you get the chance to really be on a great team. Money just cant put a price on that.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China ' ' ' |

Winnipeg Jets forward Matt Halischuk underwent successful forearm surgery on Sunday to repair a fracture and will be out of action indefinitely. The injury happened in the first period of Saturdays 6-4 loss to the Dallas Stars. The 25-year-old Halischuk scored his third goal of the season in the first period of Saturdays contest before leaving the game with what was being called an upper-body injury. The news comes on the same day the Jets learned that 24-year-old Anthony Peluso was suspended for three games for boarding Stars defenceman Alex Goligoski in Saturdays game. Halischuk has three goals and four assists through 30 games this season. Shin-Soo Choo Jersey . Jim Johnson (1-0) fanned three and allowed one hit in 1 2/3 scoreless relief innings. I have not glanced at a stat sheet or the board about batting average, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. eer. He has 72
The NBA Draft is just days away and while the first pick is set in stone, the rest of the draft is anyones guess. 1. New Orleans - PF Anthony Davis Why? Because Davis is easily the top prospect in the draft. Hes long, athletic, tough and always plays hard. He is an elite rebounder and shot-blocker. He can defend. He shoots a terrific percentage from the floor and has surprising ball-handling skills. Winning the lottery means the Hornets rebuild is now in the express lane. 2. Charlotte - PF Thomas Robinson The Charlotte Bobcats are actively exploring ways to turn this pick into multiple young assets. And lets face it they need help everywhere. If they do keep the pick Robinson is a solid option and the team liked him in workouts. At 21-years-old his body has developed to the point where it is NBA ready. 3. Washington - SG Bradley Beal The Wizards swung a big move to add Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza from the Hornets. That gives them a starting lineup that incldues John Wall at point, Ariza at the three, Nene at four and Okafor at centre. What they need is a two which makes Beal the obvious choice if he slips past Charlotte. He can shoot from anywhere which would be perfect fit alongside Wall. Beal is also a good athlete, good ball-hanlder and a terrific rebounder for a guard. 4. Cleveland - SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist A power forward might be a better fit for Cleveland but Kidd-Gilchrist is just too good to let slip. He may not have the biggest offensive repertoire but he is a high character guy who plays hard all the time. Oh and he is an athletic specimen. 5. Scaramento - C Andre Drummond Sacramento is another of several teams in this draft looking at moving their pick. If you keep the pick why not swing for the fences and go with Drummond. Drummond is a much bigger risk than say, Harrison Barnes who is far more mature, but he also has a bigger upside. He just looks like an NBA centre - long, athletic and a great leaper. He can intimidate defensively, rebounds the ball and blocks shots at a high level. Put him beside DeMarcus Cousins and thats an intimidating front court. This could also blow up in their faces. The other team had its playoff hopes on the line and was trying to save its season. http://www.adi-superstar.fr/adidas-yeezy-boost-350.html . Semien hit a tiebreaking RBI double in a two-run 12th, Jose Quintana pitched one-hit ball over seven innings, and the White Sox beat the Cubs 3-1 at Wrigley Field on Monday night. From the 3,500 minor hockey associations across the country to the highest halls of hockey power, Nicholsons ability to establish, build and maintain connections turned Hockey Canada into a powerful sports organization.OTTAWA - Mathieu Perreault is still looking for his first goal of the season — sort of.Perreault scored in the sixth round of the shootout as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Saturday night. The fact that as a shootout goal it wont count on the stats page doesnt bother him.It was a great feeling, said Perreault of the only goal scored in the shootout. I was looking at what the other guys were doing and they were all coming in with speed and trying to rip it so I just tried to slow it down a bit and pick a corner.Luckily it went in.Perreaults timely goal helped the Jets to improve to 6-0-2 over their past eight games.Although Perreaults shootout heroics won the game, goaltending was the story of the night. Ottawas Craig Anderson and Winnipegs Ondrej Pavelec stopped a combined 73-of-75 shots through regulation and overtime.Toby Enstrom had the goal for the Jets (8-5-2) and Pavelec made 37 saves plus six more in the shootout including a huge glove save off David Legwand.Chis Neil scored in regulation for the Senators (7-3-3) while Anderson made 36 saves and denied five skaters in the shootout.I dont like the shootouts at all. Especially ones that go that long, Pavelec said. We found a way to win and it continues what weve been doing lately. It was a tough game for us. (Anderson) has been great for Ottawa all season long and he was great again tonight. It was a battle. Its all about the two points and we got them.Neither team was able to break the 1-1 tie as they entered the third period with both goaltenders shining.Legwand did have Pavelec at his mercy with less than five minutes to play in regulation. With Mark Stuart off for tripping and the Senators enjoying their second power play of the game, the puck came to Legwand at the side of the goal but he fanned on his shot with Pavelec out of position.Mike Hoffman had a great opportunity in overtime to give Ottawa the win, but his quick shot from the slot was stopped by the quicker right pad from Pavelec.Moments later, Erik Karlsson took out Jets forward Evander Kane with a hip check at the blue-line that drew a rise out of the crowd and a long gaze from Kane at Karlsson. We had opportunities in overtime to put them away and I think we gave ourselves a chance to win and thats all you can ask for, Neil explained..ddddddddddddWhen you get to a shootout its a 50-50 coin flip and obviously (Anderson) gave us a chance to win. We werent able to bury one and it makes it tough when you cant score goals.Neil opened the scoring when he capitalized on the Senators only power play of the first period by beating Pavelec with a wrist shot on the short side at 11:48.The Jets used their only power play of the period to tie the game six minutes later when Enstroms point shot hit the post before finding the back of the net behind Anderson.Winnipeg outshot Ottawa 14-7 in the first period. It was Anderson that kept the game tied going into the second period. He had allowed just one goal in the two previous games heading into Saturday. It was one of those nights where both teams were playing pretty solid five-on-five and limiting the opportunities. At one point it both teams seemed to be throwing everything at the net and trying to generate things, Anderson said. Its a credit to both teams the way they played defensively and not allowing second and third opportunities. One of those games would be nice every once in a while to have few shots, but you have to look at the quality scoring chances and thats the key number. It doesnt matter what the shot clock is, its what kind of chances youre giving up and we played really solid defensively and didnt give up a whole lot so Im proud of the guys for doing that. The Senators outshot the Jets 12-10 in a scoreless second period that saw both goaltenders shine as they each made key saves.Notes: Chris Phillips, Bobby Ryan and Alex Caisson were all scratches for the Senators on Saturday. CHICAGO -- Bayern Munich forward Julian Green wants to play for the U.S. national team and has applied to FIFA to change his association from Germany. The 18-year-old, who was born in Tampa, Fla., played for Germany in three qualifiers for the 2014 European Under-19 Championship, making his debut last Oct. 10 against Belarus and getting assists two days later against Latvia and on Oct. 15 versus Scotland. He made his professional debut for Bayern on Nov. 27 as an 88th-minute substitute in a Champions League match at CSKA Moscow. FIFA since 2009 has allowed a one-time change in national team affiliation for a player who has appeared in an official match for a youth national team as long as the player had dual citizenship at the time. "We are absolutely thrilled," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a statement Tuesday. "He is a very special talent. We wanted him to feel comfortable with our program and listen to his heart when making this decision." Green trained with the U.S. team in Germany this month ahead of its exhibition game against Ukraine. "Obviously this was a big decision, and I spent a long time discussing it with my family," Green said in a statement issued by the U.S. Soccer Federation. "I was born in Florida and my father still lives there, so I have deep roots in the U.S. Im very proud to be representing the United States. "A big part of the decision was the experience I had in Frankfurt. All the players were super nice and welcomed me from the beginning. Clint Dempsey gave me a jersey with my name on it, and the way they supported me gave me a lot of belief. The coaches have shown a lot of trust in me, and now I hope to do everything I can to earn a spot on the World Cup roster." Green has been invited to the U.S. training camp ahead of an April 2 exhibition against Mexico in Glendale, Ariz. He will become the latest German-American to join the U.S. program under Klinsmann, following Jermaine Jones, Fabian Johnson, Daniel Williams, Timmy Chandler and Alfredo Morales. Klinsmann played for Germanys team that won the 1990 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship, and he coached Germany to third place in the 2006 World Cup. He moved to California after retiring as a player in 1998 and replaced Bob Bradley as U.S. coach three years ago. Adidas Superstar 2 Women . Lead players lawyer Sol Weiss expects the courts financial expert to advise the judge "shortly" on his view of the class-action plan. Senior U.S. District Judge Anita Brody has voiced concerns that the fund wont cover 20,000 retirees for 65 years. And critics believe the NFL is getting off lightly, given its $9 billion in annual revenues. "When you look at it objectively, it didnt matter how much money the NFL had, it was, Is there enough money to take care of (people)?" Weiss said Friday at a seminar at the Villanova University School of Law outside Philadelphia. The proposed settlement would pay as much as $5 million for men with the most serious neurological injuries, such as Lou Gehrigs disease. The awards would depend on a retirees age and diagnosis. Those with serious dementia would get $3 million, while an 80-year-old with early dementia would get $25,000. All plaintiffs would get cognitive testing, and follow-up care if needed. "Even if only 10 per cent of retired NFL football players eventually receive a qualifying diagnosis ... it is difficult to see how the monetary award fund would have the funds available over its lifespan to pay all claimants at these significant award levels," Brody wrote in January, when she asked for more actuarial details and appointed New York financier Perry Golkin to advise her. Weeiss remains confident the fund is sufficient, and that most players will sign on rather than spend years fighting the NFL in court.dddddddddddd The surprise settlement emerged in August, after several months of closed-door meetings with a mediator. "There were a lot of talks; they went on for a long period of time ... and the NFLs tough," Weiss said Friday. "We did get to a point where there was enough money on the table to take care of the sick players and their families, and thats the time we make the deal." Brody was expected to hold a fairness hearing in the coming months, when objectors can challenge the plan, and decide whether to opt out. "Those players and their lawyers who think its not enough money will get an opportunity to be heard," Weiss said Friday. Brody could approve the settlement, reject it, or perhaps suggest the two sides negotiate anew. However, the plaintiffs lawyers consider time of the essence, especially for families dealing with the dementia, depression and even violence associated with traumatic brain injuries. "These are profoundly injured people. Some of them are dead, and their families deserve compensation," said Weiss, whose lead plaintiff, former Atlanta Falcon safety Ray Easterling, committed suicide in 2012, a year after filing suit. "They forget things. They have a lot of anger issues. They cant hold a job. They really cant have a meaningful relations," Weiss said. "Their lives are upside down." ALAMEDA, Calif. - For a general manager who preaches building through the draft, Reggie McKenzie has struggled to find impact players his first two years in Oakland. With all of his picks on the first two days for the first time in three drafts with the Raiders, McKenzie is looking to add players who can be part of the foundation of the rebuilding project in Oakland. "Its my goal and the Raiders goal to hit on my picks, and to be right in everything we do," he said. "This year, Im more excited. I cant call it pressure. Im more excited because of the foundation that weve built this off-season." The Raiders enter the draft with the fifth overall pick and also have choices near the top of the second, third and fourth rounds. Oakland has traded its fifth- and sixth-round picks away but does have three selections in the seventh round. The Raiders didnt pick until 95th overall in 2012 because of previous deals. But McKenzie was unable to find any hidden gems as none of the six players selected started a single game last season. Oakland had premium picks a year ago, but first-round cornerback D.J. Hayden was hampered as he recovered from heart surgery and struggled in his limited playing time. Second-round offensive lineman Menelik Watson barely made it on the field because of injuries. "I want to get it right every year, with every pick," McKenzie said. "Will you be 100 per cent right? Absolutely not." Here are five things to watch with the Raiders when the draft starts Thursday night: QUARTERBACK QUANDARY: The Raiders entered the off-season in need of finding a starting quarterback. After trading a sixth-round pick for Matt Schaub in March, McKenzie no longer needs to fill that hole through the draft. "Thats still a position that well look at, but I think what it does is, you dont feel that pressure that you have to go out there and try and draft a quarterback," coach Dennis Allen said. "You kind of let everything fall to you now." WIN NOW: The Raiders have spent the first two years under the leadership of McKenzie and Allen tearing down the franchise after years of poor management under late owner Al Davis. Now they are in the rebuild mode, but owner Mark Davis is losing patience after consecutive four-win seasons. McKenzie said that does not put pressure on him to find players who can contribute immediately. "You draft for the future," McKenzie said. "You dont draft for right now. Thats not the way I do it." GOING DEEP: One of the deepest positions in this draft is receiver, where more than a dozen players are projected to go in the first three rounds. Even after adding veteran James Jones in free agency, the Raiders could look for a playmaker in the draft. Clemsons Sammy Watkins is considered the best of the group, but the Raiders also could wait to get a quality receiver in the second or third round. "If I feel like this guy is an impact player, Im not going to bypass him just because theres some other good, solid receivers," McKenzie said. "When youre comparing great to good, Id rather have great." DRAFT DEALINGS: McKenzie has not been shy about making draft-day trades. He has moved down in the draft four times in his first two years to add additional picks, including dropping nine spots in the first round last year to take Hayden 12th overall and add the pick for Watson in the second round. "Thats what makes it fun — the uncertainty," he said. "But I cannot plan that at all. I can just be hardheaded and stubborn and say, Im not moving. But thats not my style." UNDRAFTED GEMS: A GMs work is not done once Mr. Irrelevant is picked. McKenzie has done a good job finding some gems in the undrafted free agent market with receiver Rod Streater, quarterback Matt McGloin, punter Marquette King and offensive lineman Lucas Nix all making contributions the past two years after joining Oakland as undrafted free agents. Nike Air Yeezy 2 For Sale .com) - James Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas each scored eight of their 15 points during the pivotal third quarter, and Toronto snapped its four-game skid by pulling away for a 109-96 victory over the Boston Celtics at Air Canada Centre. Nike Lunarglide 4 Womens . Kazmir was tagged for three homers and allowed a season-high seven runs in the As 10-1 loss to the New York Mets and Bartolo Colon on Tuesday night. http://www.airzoompegasusuk.biz/nike-blazer-low/nike-blazer-low-black.html . As for regular Olympic spectators, theyre being warned that most travel insurance policies wont cover acts of terrorism or war. The Games in southern Russia, which run from Feb. 7-23, are being staged amid unprecedented security and under global warnings of danger. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31 Black . Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was being investigated for sexual assault, and his Heisman Trophy stock was falling. Nike Shox Clearance . -- Kevin Durant insists he and Russell Westbrook arent turning their first-round series into a two-man show, even if the NBA scoring champ says they may be shooting too much.Buffalo Bills 1 (4) - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson; 2 (44) - Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama; 3 (79) - Preston Brown, ILB, Louisville; 4 (109) Ross Cockrell, CB, Duke; 5 (153) - Cyril Richardson, OG, Baylor; 7 (221) - Randell Johnson, OLB, Florida Atlantic; 7 (237) - Seantrel Henderson, OT, Miami Top Picks Analysis: Buffalo was very active in an attempt to help speed up the development of second-year quarterback EJ Manuel. Bills GM Doug Whaley proved to be bold, trading up five spots to get one of the four real blue-chip players in the draft, Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins at No. 4 overall. The problem is they gave up a ton to do it, surrendering next years first-round pick to Cleveland in order to jump up five spots. "You have a young quarterback in EJ Manuel; a talented kid. Now they want to surround him with a weapon, and they went and the premier wide receiver in this draft," NFL Draft analyst Mike Mayock said. Whaley also attempted to sure up things in front of Manuel by landing Alabama offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio in the second round before addressing defense in the third by landing Louisville inside linebacker Preston Brown, who should serve as the backup in the middle to the newly-signed Brandon Spikes. Best Value Pick: Kouandjio is a comparable talent to D.J. Fluker, who went No. 11 overall in the 2013 draft. Concerns over the big mans knee sent him tumbling a bit so getting a talent like Kouandjio at a need position with the 44th pick is the definition of great value. "Kouandjio slipped to the second round mostly because of a knee injury and the rumors surrounding it. He is a big, powerful tackle; think Phil Loadholt from Minnesota," Mayock said. "Hes so long that not many can get by him in pass protection." Questionable Calls: With or without Watkins most believe Buffalo wont be contending for a playoff spot in 2014 so giving up next years first-round choice could prove to be very painful next year. Summary: Whaley also traded veteran receiver Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers for an undisclosed 2015 draft choice and acquired Philadelphia running back Bryce Brown for a future conditional mid-round draft pick. Moving Johnson was expected once Watkins was in the fold but acquiring Brown, a pure talent with fumbling issues, for a meaningful pick when you already have CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson on the depth chart was a head-scratcher. Anytime you get a player like Watkins there is plenty of good in the draft but there were just too many questionable moves surrounding the acquisition to call it a home run. FINAL GRADE: B- Undrafted rookie free agent signings: DT Damien Jacobs, Florida; DB Deon Broomfield, Iowa State; CB Darius Robinson, Clemson; LB Darrin Kitchens, Florida; S Kenny Ladler, Vanderbilt; OL Jimmy Gaines, Miami; DB Derek Brim, Buffalo Miami Dolphins 1 (19) - JaWuan James, OT, Tennessee; 2 (63) - Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU; 3 (6) Billy Turner, OT, North Dakota State; 4 (125) - Walt Aikens, CB, Liberty; 5 (155) - Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia; 5 (171) - Jordan Tripp, OLB, Montana; 6 (190) - Matt Hazel, WR, Coastal Carolina; 7 (234) - Terrence Fede, DE, Marist Top Pick Analysis: Miami general manager Dennis Hickey developed tunnel vision in his first draft, reaching for Tennessee offensive tackle JaWuan James with the 19th overall pick. James was given a second- to third-round grade by most and there were probably 30 to 40 players left on the board who project as better players than James on the professional level. Hickey settled down in the second round and was able to get talented LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry, a strong route runner with tremendous hands. In the third Miami went back to the offensive line with North Dakota State project Billy Turner, a raw player with a solid upside. Best Value Pick: Fifth-round linebacker Jordan Tripp of Montana can really run and should be an elite special-teamer at the bare minimum. Questionable Calls: Clearly offensive tackle was a need position for the Dolphins but prioritizing need over talent at No. 19 overall is a very poor decision. The names picked directly behind James were Brandin Cooks, Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix and Johnny Manziel. In a game of who doesnt belong? James sticks out like a sore thumb. Summary: Hickeys self-described analytics approach produced some very strange results. Either he is the smartest guy in the room or hes in over his head. FINAL GRADE: C- Undrafted rookie free agent signings: QB Brock Jensen, North Dakota State; CB Steven Clarke, Vanderbilt; DT Curtis Porter, Miami; DT Anthony Johnson, LSU; WR Rantavious Wooten, Georgia; OT David Hurd, Arkansas; S Demetrius Wright, USC; TE/FB Gator Hoskins, Marshall; DL Shayron Green, Miami; OL Evan Finkenberg, Arizona State; DE Trevor Mims, USF; CB Deion Belue, Alabama; DT Garrison Smith, Georgia; WR Ryan Lankford, Illinois; P Stephen Clark, Auburn; LB Tariq Edwards, Virginia Tech; OT Gasten Gabriel, Southeastern Louisiana; OLB Derrell Johnson, East Carolina; C Tyler Larsen, Utah State; G Devointe Wallace, New Mexico State; RB Damien Williams, Oklahoma; LB Andrew Wilson, Missouri; K Anthony Fera, Texas; OLB Marcus Thompson, Rutgers New England Patriots 1 (29) - Dominique Easley, DT, Florida; 2 (62) - Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois; 4 (105) Bryan Stork, OC, Florida State; 4 (130) - James White, RB, Wisconsin; 4 (140) - Cameron Fleming, OT, Stanford; 6 (1779) - Jon Halapio, OG, Florida; 6 (198) - Zach Moore, DE, Concordia; 6 (206) - Jemea Thomas, CB, Georgia Tech; 7 (244) Jeremy Gallon, WR, Michigan Top Picks Analysis: The Patriots gambled and selected Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley with the 29th overall pick.dddddddddddd. Easley is a top-10 talent with a history of significant knee problems playing a position which demands he carries a lot of weight on his 6-foot-2 frame. Easley tore both of his ACLs during his time in Gainesville, Fla., most recently damaging the ACL and meniscus in his right knee last September, cutting short was shaping up as a monster season for the Staten Island, N.Y., native. Easley has always shown the kind of quick, active hands that are a staple of three-technique stars in the NFL and despite being "undersized" at 288 pounds has always been able to hold his own against the run thanks to impressive core and lower-body strength. "He was a top 30 pick until he tore his ACL in September," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said. "Hes quick and explosive. A lot of people felt like he was going to drop because of the ACL. This is a typical Bill Belichick pick. The rest of the league discounted his talent, but hell be in training camp. The Patriots needed defensive linemen and this kid is gifted." In the second round New England may have invested in the heir to Tom Bradys throne in Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Brady still has plenty of shelf life left but he is 36 and current backup Ryan Mallett will likely be moving on sooner rather than later. "This kids got a quick release, good arm and is very athletic," Mayock said of Garoppolo. "Tom Brady, at his age, and Ryan Malletts uncertain status forces this pick. This is an insurance policy for an unknown future." Best Value Pick: Offensive tackle Cameron Fleming, the teams fourth-round pick from Stanford, fits very well into what the Patriots do offensively and could develop into a future starter on the right side of the offensive line. Questionable Calls: Remember it isnt about one knee injury with Easley, we are at two and counting. If the Pats wanted help on the defensive line they could have looked at another player with an extremely high ceiling and no real injury history, RaShede Hageman. Summary: Call this the risk/reward draft for New England. They could hit it big with Easley and Garoppolo or end up with nothing. Final Grade: B- Undrafted rookie free agent signings: TE Tyler Beck, Bowling Green; RB Roy Finch, Oklahoma; DL Micajah Reynolds, Michigan State; LB James Morris, Iowa; DB Travis Hawkins, Delaware; TE Justin Jones, East Carolina; DL Deylan Buntyn, N.C. State; OLB Cameron Gordon, Michigan; LS Tyler Ott, Harvard; TE Asa Watson, N.C. State; DT Sealii Espensa, UCLA; WR Ja-Mes Logan, Ole Miss; RB Stephen Houston, Indiana; LB Deontae Skinner, Mississippi State; CB Malcolm Butler, West Alabama; S Jeremy Deering, Rutgers; LB Cameron Gordon, Michigan New York Jets 1 (18) - Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville; 2 (49) - Jace Amaro, TE, Texas A&M; 3 (80) - Dexter McDougle, CB, Maryland; 4 (104) - Jalen Saunders, WR, Oklahoma; 4 (115) - Shaq Evans, WR, UCLA; 4 (137) - Dakota Dozier, OT, Furman; 5 (154) - Jeremiah George, ILB, Iowa State; 6 (195) - Brandon Dixon, CB, Northwest Missouri State; 6 (209) - Quincy Enunwa, WR, Nebraska; 6 (210) - IK Enemkpali, DE, Louisiana Tech; 6 (213) - Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson; 7 (233) - Trevor Riley, OLB, Utah Top Picks Analysis: Cornerback seemed like the bigger need for the Jets but John Idzik and Rex Ryan couldnt pass up Louisville safety Calvin Pryor with the 18th overall pick. An old school, seek-and-destroy safety, Pryor is a little bit better in coverage than he gets credit for and a lot of scouts have described him as a bigger Bob Sanders. If the second round New York added to its improved playmaking unit on offense by selecting Texas A&M tight end Jace Amaro, who is more of a glorified slot receiver in the mold of Aaron Hernandez than a traditional "Y." "I like this pick a lot for the Jets as they try to fortify their offensive firepower," NFL Network draft analyst Charles Davis said. "(Amaro) is a physical route runner. He gets into seams very well. Once he catches the ball, he becomes an excellent ball carrier." Rex finally got his corner in the third round when Idzik tabbed Marylands Dexter McDougle, who isnt very big but runs pretty well. Best Value Pick: Shaq Evans, a fourth-round wide receiver out of UCLA, has impressive size and solid hands. He could develop into a solid possession receiver who can work the middle of the field and prove to be a chain-mover. Questionable Calls: McDougle has a shoulder problem and was rated as a late- round pick by most. His ceiling as a player is likely a sub-package slot option. Summary: The top two picks were very good and things tapered off a bit from there. FINAL GRADE: B Undrafted rookie free agent signings: DT Kerry Hyder Jr, Texas Tech; OT Tevon Conrad, Saginaw Valley State; LB Nick Dimarco, William Penn; LB Steele Divitto, Boston College; OT Brent Qvale, Nebraska; DE Zach Thompson, Wake Forest; K Michael Palardy, Tennessee; FB Chad Young, San Diego State; WR Jermaine Jones, St. Augustine; DL Anthony Grady, Missouri State; WR Terrence Miller, Arizona; WR DeMario Bennett, Coastal Carolina Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China ' ' ' |

VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks got into the spirit of the Heritage Classic on Saturday. The Canucks donned vintage maroon, red and beige uniforms as they practised on a makeshift rink at B.C. Place Stadium in preparation for Sundays outdoor game against the Ottawa Senators. The Senators were scheduled to skate later Saturday. First, the Canucks wore the replica Vancouver Millionaires jerseys and posed for a team picture. Then they switched into practice uniforms with goalies and forwards in maroon red and defencemen in grey. Coach John Tortorella and his staff wore maroon sweatsuits. But goalies Roberto Luongo and Eddie Lack had the best-looking stuff. Luongo wore a maroon mask adorned with a beige "V" and the word Vancouver on it. He also sported faux-leather brown pads and gloves. Lack wore a similar mask with maroon and beige pads and gloves, he will draw the start for the Canucks on Sunday. Lack will be making his third consecutive start for the Canucks since the Olympic break on Sunday. He posted a 20 save shutout against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday before falling to the Minnesota Wild in a shootout on Friday. Luongo has not played since returning from backing up Carey Price for Team Canada at Sochi 2014. Players are hoping the stadium roof will be open Sunday as it was on a partly cloudy Saturday. Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for coastal B.C. on Sunday with five to 10 centimetres expected inland and at higher elevations in Metro Vancouver. But in case the weather forecast is wrong, the field has already been covered with artificial snow. Others agreeing to deals were pitcher Ryan Cook and outfielders Craig Gentry and Sam Fuld. Shelley Smith Jersey .J. -- Rex Ryan was fired up. SALT LAKE CITY -- After Kevin Love hit back-to-back 3-pointers again, Enes Kanter put his hands out to his side and said, "What can I do?" No one in the NBA seems to have an answer. Love continued his torrid pace with 37 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for his first career triple-double to help the Minnesota Timberwolves cruise past the Utah Jazz 121-104 Saturday night. "I thought at some point it would happen. Ive been very close. Happy it was tonight and more happy we got the win," Love said of achieving the triple-double. "This is one Ill definitely remember." Minnesota was again playing without starters Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and Kevin Martin (finger), but Love filled the void, keeping one step ahead of the Jazz through the game. He compiled all his statistics in 32 minutes to earn a spot on the bench for the final nine minutes of the Wolves third runaway win against the Jazz this season. "Kevin Love was unbelievable. Hes incredible," Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said. "To get a triple-double in three quarters, thats pretty darn good." Ricky Rubio had 15 points, and Corey Brewer and Chase Budinger scored 13 apiece as the Wolves won their third straight for just their third streak of three-plus victories. "Its fun to play with him," Rubio said of Love. Kanter couldnt stop Love, but had success against him on the offensive end, scoring 25 points for the Jazz, who dropped their third in a row after a season-best three-game win streak. Kanter didnt get much help. Trey Burke had 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting and Alec Burks added 15 for the Jazz, who played without starting centre Derrick Favours. Utah dropped to 0-9 without the defensive-minded Favours in the lineup and the Jazz allowed the Wolves to shoot 51 per cent. A lot of that also had to do with Love, who often ignited fast breaks with long outlet passes and crafty feeds around the perimeter. When the Jazz didnt run another player at him, Love made a bevy of outside shots as well as his regular quota of post moves and put-backs. Love was 6 of 10 from beyond the arc and committed just one turnover. He is averaging more than 33 points and 15 rebounds over his last nine contests and this effort markked his fourth straight 30-plus point game, tying Kevin Garnetts franchise record.dddddddddddd. "He made some crazy shots. He plays with his heart, and he plays hard," Kanter said. Even without Pekovic, the Timberwolves outrebounded the Jazz 49-34 and had 24 fast-break points to Utahs 13. After leading Minnesota a 59-49 lead at halftime, Love hit consecutive 3-pointers and scored eight points in a 10-3 run for a 69-52 advantage that left Utah post defenders shaking their heads. Another pair of 3-pointers from Love later in the third quarter stretched the lead to 85-64. Love had 22 points in the third period alone. "The third quarter was incredible. A tremendous effort, especially with how short-handed we were," Adelman marveled. The Wolves still need to make up five games to reach the playoffs in the deep Western Conference, but they have started their charge without their second- and third-leading scorers. Martin (19.0 points) has been sidelined for five games with a non-displaced fracture in his left thumb and Pekovic (18.0 points) has sat out the last 11 due to right ankle bursitis. Love -- whose 46 double-doubles lead the league -- was the perfect passer for the Wolves fast-breaking strategy against the Jazz. Minnesota released whoever was defending a perimeter jump shooter for easy layups on the other end after Love found them with one-handed passes. "My parents never let me play football. It was my way of being a quarterback out there," Love said. Love registered his career-best 10th assist when he grabbed a defensive rebound and let fly a three-quarter-court pass to Brewer, who had outrun the defence and got a layup. "I was glad it was Brew for the 10th assist. It was fitting that it came in an outlet pass," Love said. No one in the NBA seems to have an answer. CHICAGO -- Yadier Molina had a simple goal for his ninth-inning at-bat with the bases loaded and the score tied on Sunday. "I was looking not to strike out," he said. After fouling off some tough two-strike pitches, Molina hit a ground-ball single up the middle to drive in two runs and the St. Louis Cardinals snapped out of an offensive funk with a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs. "I got a little lucky that they were playing me to pull," Molina said. "It was a good at-bat. I was able to put the ball in play and good things happened." The defending National League champions had lost four of five to fall a game below .500. The Cardinals scored all their runs with two outs. Molina, moved into the No. 2 spot to jump start the lineup, was 0 for 4 before coming through in the ninth. But it was a wild pitch in the seventh inning that allowed the Cubs to tie the score at 3 that had Molina more frustrated. The pitch from reliever Carlos Martinez was in the dirt and trickled through Molinas legs, allowing Luis Valbuena to score. "I was there," Molina said. "I dont know. Its one of those things. I was ready for it and the ball still goes through my legs." Kevin Siegrist (1-1) got the win in relief, while Trevor Rosenthal picked up his eighth save in as many opportunities despite a scare in the ninth inning. Hector Randon (0-1) took the loss for the Cubs, who were attempting to win four straight games for the first time since July. While Cardinals manager Mike Matheny had looked for Molina, one of his hottest hitters, to get the offence going, it was a couple of struggling batters at the bottom of the lineup that got things started early. With two outs in the second inning and Jhonny Peralta on first base, Randal Grichuk drilled a triple into the right-centre field gap for a 1-0 lead. Mark Ellis, who went 3 for 4, followed with a double to left-centre to make it 2-0. Both Grichuk (.167) and Ellis (.143) entered hitting well below .200. St. Louis stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third as Matt Adams doubled home Matt Holiday. The Cubs pulled within 3-2 in the fourth with some clutch two-out hitting. With one out, Ryan Kalish singled and John Baker walked. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Cubs starter Jason Hammel singled to right to drive in both. Molinas go-ahead single to centre came on the sixth pitch of the at-bat from Randon. "I thought I made a good pitch today, but something happened," Randon said. Molina seemed more relieved that the wild pitch wasnt a factor than he drove in the game-deciding runs. "(Molina) does a good job of not wearing his emotions and how frustrating that is for him," Matheny said. "Its hard to count the number of balls he keeps in front of him, the number of runs he saves. Its something we dont take for granted." Valbuena doubled in a run with two outs in the ninth to make it 5-4, but Rosenthal got Anthony Rizzo to ground out to end the game. "Guys kept grinding it out," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "We just fell a little short." NOTES: The ESPN broadcast team of Dan Shulman and John Kruk worked from the bleachers. ... While making a rehab start Sunday with Double A Springfield, LHP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) was hit by a pitch on the left elbow and left after two innings and 28 pitches. "I think they went in and took precautionary X-rays," Matheny said. "I havent heard anything back yet." ... In the same game, RHP Jason Motte threw a scoreless inning, striking out three, in his first rehab outing. ... Rizzo entered with a .429 on-base percentage, which was fifth-best in the National League. ... The Cards open a series in Atlanta on Monday, with RHP Shelby Miller (3-2) facing RHP Aaron Harang, while the Cubs host the crosstown White Sox with RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-3) going up against LHP Jose Quintana (1-2). The Giants held off the Los Angeles Dodgers for a 4-2 win on Friday night when pinch-hitter Adrian Gonzalezs hard grounder went off Romos right foot.BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Given the number of Buffalo Sabres players being mentioned in trade talks, interim coach Ted Nolan has established a running joke with captain Steve Ott. "You dont want to make light of it, but every day when I walk in, I say, Steve, youre still here," Nolan said, with a chuckle after the teams pre-game skate Friday. The question remains, for how long? And the buzz leading up to the NHLs trade deadline Wednesday hasnt been limited to Ott, who is in the final year of his contract and eligible to become a free agent this summer. Goalie Ryan Miller, forward Matt Moulson and veteran defenceman Henrik Tallinder are also being shopped because their contracts are coming up, too. And add defenceman Christian Ehrhoff to the group after confirming he recently complied with the Sabres request to submit a list of eight teams that would make up the no-trade clause of his contract. Though the submission of the list doesnt guarantee Ehrhoff will be dealt, it suggests the 10-year veteran has been the subject of trade conversations. Ehrhoff was not caught by surprise. "No, not really because obviously, we are in 30th place and they have to be prepared," said Ehrhoff, who declined to reveal what teams were on his list. "Its just part of the business. Ill keep focusing on hockey." The Sabres (17-34- , who host San Jose on Friday, are bracing for a shakeup under newly hired general manager Tim Murray, who continues to drop major hints that hes eager to make big splashes in a bid to rebuild the NHLs worst team through youth. On Tuesday, Murray confirmed hes shopping Miller, adding hes fielded calls from more than two but fewer than 10 teams. On Friday, during an interview with Torontos FAN 590, Murray narrowed the number of teams interested in Miller to about five, while adding that much of his entire roster is available. "Theres no untouchables," said Murray, who took over in early January. "Its a rebuild." The Sabres are in the midst of an overhaul that began under Murrays predecessor, Darcy Reegier, who was fired in November.dddddddddddd Buffalo will likely miss the playoffs for a third straight season and hasnt won a playoff round since 2007, when the team reached the Eastern Conference finals before losing to Ottawa. The roster purge began last season, when the Sabres traded numerous high-priced veterans, including captain Jason Pominville. And it continued into October, when Thomas Vanek was traded to the New York Islanders for Moulson and a first-round draft pick. The Sabres, as a result, have stockpiled draft picks. They could have as many as two first-round and three second-round selections in this years draft. Buffalo also has a solid group of prospects in its farm system, including defencemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Nikita Zadorov, who were both drafted in the first round in June. Murrays objective is to add more draft picks or young prospects. Ehrhoff has value because hes a dependable two-way defenceman who leads the team averaging 24:02 of ice time per game, and leads Sabres blue liners with 28 points (six goals, 22 assists). Hes in his third season with Buffalo after signing a 10-year, $40 million contract on June 30, 2011. Miller, who is set to start against San Jose, has already spent much of this week reminiscing about his 11 seasons in Buffalo, and making sure to thank fans for their support. "Its a great place to play hockey. You feel part of something. You feel appreciated," said Miller, who holds franchise records with 284 wins and 540 games played. "With the uncertainty, you dont want to miss an opportunity to say, Thank you." Miller recalled with a laugh the time a fan approached him at a local grocery store to provide pointers on how to hold his stick. And then there were the times when "sweet old ladies" would come up and hug him and suggest he needs to eat more. "I always got a kick out of the people who wanted to get me more to eat because they thought I was a little thin," said Miller, who is 6-foot-2 and 168 pounds. "Its good that people care." ST. LOUIS -- After stumbling in his first start following three months on the disabled list, Joe Kelly tinkered with his mechanics. Kelly bounced back with seven strong innings and Matt Adams homered in a four-run first as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 Saturday to send All-Star Zack Greinke to losses in consecutive regular-season starts for the first time in nearly four years. Kelly (2-1) gave up four hits over seven innings, retiring his last 13 batters as the Cardinals won for the eighth time in 10 games. Kelly didnt get a decision on July 11 in his return from a strained left hamstring, when he gave up six runs over three innings during the Cardinals 7-6 win at Milwaukee. After winning for the first time since April 5, he wouldnt detail his changes. "I did a lot of stuff different, but Im not going to give it away," he said. "If you watch the video, you can probably tell." Kelly induced 12 groundouts and got out of trouble with double plays in each of the first two innings. "I was just trying to mix up pitches and hide stuff better," he said. St. Louis manager Mike Matheny was impressed with Kellys ability to keep the ball down. "I thought it was one of his better pitching performances," Matheny said. "There were times when I even thought his changeup was a breaking ball. It has so much depth to it. So his secondary pitches were on." The Dodgers Adrian Gonzalez thought Kelly had great pitch location. "He didnt throw any balls in the middle of the plate," he said. "He kept throwing his fastballs right on the corner. There werent any pitches to drive." Trevor Rosenthal, the Cardinals third reliever, got his 30th save in 34 chances when Andre Either grounded into a game-ending double play. Coming off a July 9 defeat at Detroit, Greinke (11-6) walked a season-high five and gave up four runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings. He had not lost back-to-back starts in the regular season since Sept. 20 and 25, 2010, for Kansas City at Detroit and Cleveland, according to STATS. Greinke did lose his regular-season finale against Colorado last year and was beaten by Atlanta in his first post-season start. "Too many mistakes in one inning," Greinke said. "Ive been doing that too much lately, getting behind in a game too early. I need to find a way to be better right from the get-go." St. Louis improved to 21-10 at home against the Dodgers in the regular season since the start of the 2006. The Cardinals also beat Los Angeles in six games in last years NL championship series. Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left the game in the fifth, four innings after he was shaken up while diving back into second base on a pickoff attempt. The Cardinals said team doctors determined Holliday did not sustain a concussion. Dodgers All-Star outfielder Yasiel Puig left in the eighth, five innings after he was hit on the left hand by a Kelly pitch. Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly said Puig got hit, "near the top or on the side a little bit." Both players were considered day to day. Matt Carpenter opened the Cardinals first with a walk, and Kolten Wong reached on a slow roller when second baseman Dee Gordon threw wide of first, a play ruled a hit and an error that put runners on second and third, Holliday followed with a two-run single and Adams hit his 12th homer on Greinkes 16th pitch of the game. Adams, who has 15 hits in his last 39 at-bats, drilled a line drive over the right-field wall. "The curveball just popped up in the zone," Adams said. "When it does that, you know its a good one to swing at." Greinke said Adams outsmarted him. "I was just trying to be aggressive and it was the wrong choice," he said. "Usually, hes kind of patient early." Los Angeles, which has lost five of eight, scored on Hanley Ramirezs RBI infield single in the third and Carl Crawfords sacrifice fly against Sam Freeman in the eighth. The Dodgers have only 12 runs in their last seven games. "It just tells us that weve got to get better," Mattingly said. NOTES: Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw (11-2, 1.78) is to face RHP Carlos Martinez (2-4, 4.43) in the series finale on Sunday. ... Wong extended his hitting streak to eight games. The towering offensive lineman from Halifax re-signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Tuesday, the day before he was scheduled to become a free agent. "Steve is a very experienced offensive lineman and a valuable commodity to our team," said Blue Bombers vice-president and general manager Joe Mack. "Were happy we were able to lock him up before the deadline." The six-foot-seven, 306-pound Morley completed his third season with Winnipeg in 2011, helping the Blue Bombers reach the Grey Cup. Morley, 30, played his college football at Saint Marys and was selected first overall by Calgary in the 2003 CFL Canadian college draft. He spent one season with the Stampeders before stints in both the NFL and NFL Europe. Morley returned to the CFL in 2007 with the Toronto Argonauts before being dealt to the Saskatchewan Roughriders the following year and signing with Winnipeg as a free agent in 2009. The Blue Bombers also signed linebacker/long snapper Jordan Matechuk to a contract on Tuesday. Matechuk signed with thee Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2008 and served as the teams long snapper until he was released prior to last seasons training camp due to legal issues that occurred off the field.ddddddddddddIn three seasons with the Ticats, Matechuk played in 41 regular season games and recorded 23 special teams tackles. "We are signing Jordan based on his football talent and because we feel that he can improve the depth on our roster," added Mack. "Whatever Jordan has gone through in the past in his personal life doesnt affect our decision to bring him in. We feel everyone deserves a second chance and Jordan has demonstrated professionalism and honesty throughout this entire process. Were very excited to have him in our training camp and we look forward to seeing what he can do for our team." The Blue Bombers are also in talks with offensive lineman Glann January and it is expected a deal will be in place before the end of the day. However, it appears fellow offensive lineman and Weyburn, Saskatchewan native Brendon LaBatte may sign with the Roughriders when free agent season opens on Wednesday. Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. This week, they discuss the NFL and marijuana, Canadian world champion boxer Bermane Stiverne, Steve Kerrs choice for head coach and FIFA backtracking on Qatar 2022. Dave Naylor, TSN Radio 1050: My thumb is up to the National Football League which - according to reports this week - is planning to soften its penalties for players who test positive for marijuana. Look, even if youre part of the minority which still believes pot should be illegal, its not hard to see the hypocrisy here. The NFL is a down-and-dirty league, where all kinds of nasty stuff happens and players are often welcomed back to the field despite risky and dangerous behavior. And yet, as of now, Clevelands Josh Gordon will miss this coming season because he did something that is legal in two states and which many believe is a safer way to manage the pain associated with pro football than popping pills. What would the NFL be like if the league stopped testing for weed altogether? Well, we have a pretty good idea because in Canada the CFL does not list marijuana as a banned substance. And frankly, no one cares. The NFL has followed the CFLs lead when it comes to the forward pass, two-point converts and a few other things … its time to follow its lead on pot as well. Steve Simmons, Sun Media: My thumb is up Bermane Stiverne, and if you dont know the name, youre not alone. A week ago, Stiverne, the Haitian-born Montreal-raised boxer, won the WBC heavyweight championship. Once upon a time, that was a title that began with Sonny Liston and moved through Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes and George Foreman and Mike Tyson and another Canadian of other countries, Lennox Lewis. It was the title of all titles not just in boxing, but in all of sport: heavyweight champion of the world. Somewhere in time that disappeared, just not the history; now its Stivernes time, after his sixth round stoppage of Chris Arreola in Los Angeles. He might be like Trevor Berbick, a one and done champion. But after all these years, we still remember Berbicks name. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated: My thumb is up to Steve Kerr for a wise choice. Offered coaching positions with the Knicks and Warriors, the broadcaster took door no. 2, Golden State. The job might not be all rainbows and lollipops because Warrior players are angry former coach Mark Jackson was fired, but it is a better option than Madison Square Garden, the worlds most famous asylum. Kerr wont have to answer to bullying owner James Dolan or face inevitable second-guessing from Knicks president Phil Jackson, a fair coach himself. Golden state provides Kerr with a more talented roster and a better family situation, but mostly if offers a truly precious commodity - sanity. Dave Hodge, TSN: My thumb is down to soccers world governing body, FIFA for managing to sound dumber than its president, Sepp Blatter. Blatter has finally admitted that the selection of Qatar as the site of the 2022 World Cup was a mistake, which, until now, has been obvious to all but FIFA, because if the summertime heat makes it dangerous to watch a soccer match, its probably not a good idea to play in one. But, said Blatter, people do make mistakes. Toronto coach Scott Milanovich was the first in the CFL to avail himself of the chance to challenge the officials failure to rule pass interference on a play and subject it to video review. Zuccarello broke up a scoreless duel between two Olympic goalies with 5:58 remaining, lifting the Rangers to a 1-0 victory over the Red Wings on Thursday night. Nike Blazer Low Blue Mens . PAUL, Minn. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Michael Brantley gets to head home celebrating a game-winning hit instead of dwelling on a rare error. Brantley atoned for a dropped fly ball by hitting a two-run single in the ninth inning off new Oakland closer Jim Johnson that helped the Cleveland Indians salvage a split of a day-night doubleheader with a 6-4 win over the Athletics in the nightcap Wednesday. "Its just a never-die attitude, never quit, always picking each other up and always fighting to the end," Brantley said. "What we did tonight was fun. It was special, and hopefully well use that momentum to keep going." Scott Kazmir (1-0) pitched 7 1-3 scoreless innings against his former team in his Oakland debut to help the As win the opener 6-1. They appeared to be on their way to a sweep when they took a 4-3 lead into the ninth with help from Brantleys dropped fly ball. But Johnson allowed back-to-back singles to Ryan Raburn and Nick Swisher to open the inning. After a one-out walk to Carlos Santana loaded the bases, Brantley grounded a single to right field to give the Indians the lead. "Any time you can win a game its always great, but especially in a doubleheader," said Mike Aviles, who homered earlier in the game. "Last thing you want to do is get on that plane after losing two." David Murphy added a sacrifice fly to end Johnsons night to a chorus of boos. Johnson also allowed two runs in the ninth inning to take the loss on opening night and is 0-7 with a 7.94 ERA in 17 games against the Indians. More importantly for As fans he has lost twice since taking over from Grant Balfour as closer. "We should be 3-0 and I take responsibility," Johnson said. "But if I sulk or pout its not going to do anyone any good. I have to be better." Cody Allen (2-0) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win and John Axford got three outs for his second save. The As had taken the lead when Brantley dropped a fly ball in left-centre that allowed Josh Donaldson to reach second and ended a club-record streak of 247 games in the outfield without an error. "They both called it at the same time," manager Terry Francona said. "Probably the most conscientious guy on the field is kicking himself. For him to get a hit like thaat was really great.dddddddddddd" Donaldson later scored on Brandon Moss single that made it 4-3. The teams played the earliest doubleheader in baseball history following the first rainout in Oakland since May 5, 1998, on Tuesday night. The previous earliest doubleheader came on April 7 in 1971, 74 and 96, according to STATS. Kazmir started the day off on the right note for Oakland, allowing three hits and no walks in 7 1-3 scoreless innings. He signed a $22 million, two-year contract in the off-season to replace All-Star Bartolo Colon in the rotation. Kazmirs importance in the rotation only grew when projected opening day starter Jarrod Parker was lost to a season-ending elbow injury and starter A.J. Griffin opened the season on the disabled list. "You always want to make that good first impression and thats what he did," catcher Derek Norris said. "If he had any type of pressure on his shoulders to do something good I think thats pretty much eliminated." Alberto Callaspo hit a two-run homer for the Athletics. Corey Kluber (0-1) failed to make it out of the fourth inning and lost for the first time in 13 starts since June 27. He gave up five runs and eight hits in 3 1-3 innings. He was hurt by a nearly five-minute replay delay in the second inning. The disputed play came with runners on first and third and one out when Josh Donaldson hit a grounder to third. Carlos Santana threw home and umpire Mark Wegner ruled that Gomes tagged Norris before he touched home. As manager Bob Melvin challenged the call but the ruling stood after a review of about 4 minutes, 45 seconds, because there was no conclusive evidence to overturn it. Kluber allowed an RBI single to Lowrie after the delay to fall behind 3-0. "By that point it was apparent I was searching and I dont think that had anything to do with it," Kluber said. "That being said, I thought it took way too long. It took away from the flow of the game and thats what they are trying to avoid." NOTES: Brantleys previous error came on June 3, 2012, against Minnesota. ... The Indians won a replay challenge in the second game when replay showed Nick Punto missed the tag on Aviles on a steal attempt of second base. Cleveland failed to score after the challenge. SAN JOSE, Calif. -- After erasing Anaheims 13-point lead in the standings the past two months, a one-goal deficit in the third period was only a minor speed bump for Brent Burns and the San Jose Sharks. Burns scored the game-winning goal with 3:59 to play after assisting on the tying goal earlier in the third to help the Sharks take sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division for the first time in more than three months with a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. "He is a wrecking ball," coach Todd McLellan said. "Hes a one-man wrecking crew out there when he plays that way." Joe Thornton tied the game earlier in the third and got his second assist on the game-winner for the Sharks, who have won seven of eight to move two points ahead of Anaheim although the Ducks have a game in hand. The Sharks, who trailed by 13 points after games on Jan. 15, have not been alone in first since Dec. 6. "This was something weve had our eye on for a while," forward Tommy Wingels said. "Now that weve got a grasp of it, we cant look back. Weve got to keep the pedal down and try to pull away. We worked this hard to get here, we cant give it up now." Patrick Marleau also scored and Antti Niemi made 26 saves for San Jose. Teemu Selanne and Mathieu Perreault scored for the Ducks, who have lost six of their last eight. Frederik Andersen made 25 saves. "It was a tough game but thats what happens when two good teams go at it and fight tooth and nail," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Everybody knew the importance of this game. Both teams looked focused and played to the end." Burns, who assisted on Thorntons goal, was on the receiving end on the game-winner when he crashed the net and deflected Thorntons centring pass from the boards past Andersen. "He made a good play, shot to the middle there for me and I was lucky to get a stick on it and put it in," Burns said. Burns put together a personal highlight reel in the third period, getting the assist on Thorntons goal on a 2-on-1 and then flattening Corey Perry with a hit with his backside that energized the Sharks and their loud crowd a few shifts before his game-winner. "Hes just a beast out there," Thornton said. "Nobody can handle his size and his speed. It just forces you to try to keep up with him because hes going so fast. Its great to watch." Selanne gave the Ducks the lead early in the third shortly after Anaheim killed off a San Jose power play. He started the play with an aggressive forecheck and Ryan Getzlaf took the puck away from Marty Havlat along the boards. Perry got the loose puck and his quick shot deflected off Selanne and into the net to make it 2-1. But the lead was short-lived as the Thornton line got the best of their matchup against Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne. "It was two breakdowns on us," Perry said. "They are a team that capitalizes on those things." The game had a playoff-type atmosphere as the fans at the Shark Tank were loud and on edge from the start, breaking into derogatory chants about the Ducks right after the opening faceoff. Neither team gave the opposition much space to operate in early in the game with only 10 combined shots in a tightly played first period that ended with the Sharks up 1-0. The Sharks capitalized on their one power-play chance when Luca Sbisa was sent off for roughing Tommy Wingels. Sbisa got away with one questionable hit on Wingels before shoving Wingels to the ice a second time, leading to the penalty. Thornton then sent a pass from behind the net to Marleau, who beat Andersen with a one-timer for his 29th goal. That was just the fifth power-play goal for San Jose in the past 21 games and the first point on the man advantage for Thornton in exactly two months. Anaheims struggling power-play unit struck in the second, getting the teams third man-advantage goal in the past 15 games. Selanne drew a pair of penalties from Logan Couture and Marc-Edouard Vlasic to give the Ducks a two-man advantage for 6 seconds. Perreault won a faceoff from Thornton and then got in position to one-time a rebound of Perrys shot for his 15th goal just seconds after Couture left the penalty box. NOTES: Selanne, who played two-plus seasons with the Sharks, got a warm ovation following a video tribute on his last scheduled trip to San Jose. ... Andrew Wiedeman and Hamilton had scored second-half goals to pull the home side even before a sellout crowd of 22,591 on a warm evening at BMO Field.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Pistons are 2-0 since releasing Josh Smith and will try to push their winning streak to three Tuesday night when they visit the Amway Center to face the Orlando Magic. The Pistons winning streak, which came on the throws of a four-game slide, has occurred since their rather shocking decision to release Smith with two years and almost $25 million remaining on his contract. Detroit knocked off the Indiana Pacers at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday, then picked up its most impressive victory of the season, a 103-80 drubbing of LeBron James and the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Sunday. Brandon Jennings scored 25 points and led a 3-point barrage that carried the Pistons to a win in the first of a three-game road trip, which ends Friday in New York City. The Pistons made good on a scorching 17-of-31 attempts from beyond the arc on Sunday. Jennings went 5-of-9 from long distance, Jodie Meeks was 3-of-4 in a 14-point effort off the bench and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished 3-of-7 while adding 13 points. We certainly made a lot of shots, said Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. 17- for-31 from 3 was tremendous. Andre Drummond chipped in 16 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks for Detroit, which had been mired in aa 2-17 stretch prior to defeating Indiana on Friday.dddddddddddd The Magic have won two straight and three of their last four. Orlando swept a brief road trip against Southeast Division foes with a win against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday and a victory over the Miami Heat on Monday. Victor Oladipo was solid down the stretch at both ends of the floor to help the Magic to victory. Oladipo tied the game with under a minute left, then his free throw broke that tie in the closing seconds before he had to lock down on Dwyane Wades potential game-winner at the buzzer. Nikola Vucevic paced the Magic with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Oladipo netted 22 points. Orlando snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Heat, which included a six-game skid in Miami. Its reinforcing to the guys, keep playing and doing the right things and those things will add up, said Magic coach Jacque Vaughn. Tobias Harris scored 18 in the win, while Channing Frye chipped in 13 off the bench. The Magic host the Brooklyn Nets and Hornets during this homestand before heading west. Orlando bested the Pistons by 14 in Detroit on Nov. 17 and have won two in a row in this series. The Magic are 4-1 in their last five as the host versus the Pistons. SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain - David Moyes says the chance to work abroad persuaded him to take over at Real Sociedad and return to coaching six months after being fired by Manchester United.Speaking at Thursdays presentation, the 51-year-old Moyes says it has always been a bigger ambition to coach abroad. It is the right time. I am well rested and I am ready to go.Moyes was fired by Manchester United last April, less than a year after replacing Alex Ferguson as manager. Previously, Moyes established his coaching reputation after 11 seasons in charge of Everton.Moyes signed a contract to coach Sociedad for the remainder of this season and the next, ending in June 2016. Indeed, must be among the greatest challenges in all of sports. The pressure he applies, from set to set, game to game, point to point, shot to shot. That bullwhip of a high-bouncing, topspin lefty forehand. Those quick-reflex returns that help him break an opponents serve -- and his will. Doing what he does so well on the red clay of Roland Garros, a surface and site he dominates so completely, the No. 1-seeded Nadal wore down No. 2 Novak Djokovic 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 in a muggy final Sunday to win his ninth French Open championship and fifth in a row, both records. "For me," Nadal said, "playing here in Roland Garros is just unforgettable, forever." It is also his 14th Grand Slam title overall, tying the 28-year-old Spaniard with Pete Sampras for the second most by a man, behind only Roger Federers 17. That includes Nadals two trophies apiece at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, along with one from the Australian Open, proving he can beat the best on grass and hard courts, too. But its on the clay of Paris where Nadal reigns supreme: He has won 66 of 67 career French Open matches. Since the only loss, against Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009, Nadal has won 35 consecutive matches at Roland Garros. No other man has won more than seven titles at any of tennis four majors. "Its not impossible, but its very, very difficult to stay with Rafa in this court, throughout the whole match, on the highest level of performance," said Djokovic, who was broken in the final game of each set, including with an anticlimactic double-fault on match point. Nadal ensured that he, not Djokovic, will be ranked No. 1 on Monday. In the process, Nadal once again prevented six-time major champion Djokovic from completing a career Grand Slam. "He deserves to win this tournament," Nadal said. "I am sure he will do it in the future." Djokovic had won their four most recent matches, including on clay in the best-of-three-set final at Rome last month. Beating Nadal in best-of-five is a whole other matter. Nadal also topped Djokovic in the 2012 final, and the 2013 semifinals. In all, Naddal leads Djokovic 6-0 at the French Open, 9-3 at major tournaments, and 23-19 in total.dddddddddddd No other pair of men has played each other as often. The defeat in Rome was one of three this season on clay for Nadal, raising questions about whether hed be unbeatable at Roland Garros this time. There also was the matter of his troublesome back, which flared up during a loss to Stan Wawrinka in the Australian Open final and slowed his serve at times during the French Open. For 3 1/2 hours Sunday, when the sky was crystal clear and the temperature touched 80 degrees (27 Celsius), Djokovic gave everything he had, even spitting up on court. "I played at the maximum of my power, my strength, and my capability," Djokovic said, "but Rafa was the best player." Using his backhand to great effect against Nadals forehand early, Djokovic grabbed the first set, and got to 5-all in the second. "I felt," Nadal said, "the match was more in his hands at the beginning." Knowing that overcoming a two-set hole might be too much even for him, Nadal raised his level, taking 20 of 26 points to claim that set and a 3-0 lead in the third. "Without that second set, I dont know if I have this trophy with me now," Nadal would say later. When a down-the-line forehand winner ended the second set, Nadal leaped and shook both fists, his first sign of real emotion. "The momentum went (to) his side," Djokovic said. "I started playing quite bad and didnt move as well. Struggled a little bit physically throughout that third set." That was apparent. His cheeks were flushed. He put his hand on his heaving chest. He wobbled and nearly fell over while sitting on his changeover bench. Still, after trailing 4-2 in the fourth, Djokovic made one last stand. As skilled a retriever as his formidable foe -- Djokovic won 10 of the first 15 points that lasted at least 10 strokes -- he came up with a desperation defensive lob that landed right near the baseline, drawing a netted overhead from Nadal to earn a break point. Soon, it was 4-all. But Nadal steadied himself to hold to 5-4, then broke one last time. Soon enough, he was clutching the French Open trophy, his trophy. DETROIT -- Prince Fielder was placed on the disabled list Friday, days before he is scheduled to have season-ending neck surgery. The move by the Texas Rangers came a day after the team said Fielder would have cervical fusion surgery Tuesday for the herniated disk in his neck. General manager Jon Daniels said he expected a second opinion to confirm the initial recommendation for the operation. It is the first time the durable first baseman has been on the DL in his career. Before a nerve root block injection to treat his neck last Saturday, Fielders 547 consecutive games played was the longest active streak in the majors. Fielder, who turned 30 earlier this month, missed only one game the previous five seasons and hadnt missed a game since Sept. 14, 2010. Fielder went on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 17. Infielder Donnie Murphy was recalled from an injury rehab assignment and activated for the game against the Tigers. Mitch Moreland was set to start at first base, where he played last year before the trade for Fielder pushed him toward the designated hitter role. "A big blow for us as a team, losing him in the middle of the lineup," Moreland said. "But weve been dealing with adversity all year." Moreland hit 23 home runs last season. He was hitting .275 entering Friday nights game at Detroit. "Prince is on the DL. We dont have him," manager Ron Washington said. "And theres nobody who can replace him, so let Mitch Moreland be Mitch Moreland. Dont even mention Mitch Moreland in the same breath with a Prince Fielder." Murphy was placed on the disabled list May 8 with a neck strain. He was hurt when he tripped at first base trying to beat out a ground ball the previous day against Colorado. He played six games on an injury rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock, and Friday was the date he was eligible to return to the roster. The Rangers have a majors-high 13 players on the disabled list. They have had 17 DL placements this season, also the most in the majors. Fielder hit .247 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 42 games in his first season with the Rangers. The only time he has played fewer games was when he appeared in 39 as a rookie in 2005 with Milwaukee. The Tigers, meanwhile, sent minor league infielder Francisco Martinez outright to Double-A Erie, a move that cleared room on the 40-man roster for right-hander Corey Knebel. Mark Scheifele scored 1:04 into overtime and the Jets beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Saturday night. Scheifele scored from the near post off a nifty pass by Blake Wheeler from the left-wing boards. "It was a great pass by Wheeler," Scheifele said. "I owe it all to him." Wheeler also had a goal for Winnipeg, which finished 4-2 on its longest road trip of the season. The Jets were coming off a 5-2 loss Thursday night at Florida. "It would have been disappointing to go home 3-3," coach Claude Noel said. "That would have been a tough one." Jets backup goalie Al Montoya made 28 saves. He caught a break during the first minute of overtime when Tampa Bays Alex Killorn sent a shot off the post. Tampa Bay got a goal from Nate Thompson, and backup goalie Anders Lindback stopped 34 shots. "He was exceptional when we needed him," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. Thompson tied it at 1 on a shot from the slot with just more than a second left in the second period. Martin St. Louis won an offensive zone faceoff before Radko Gudas sent a pass to Thompson, who had been thrown out of the faceoff circle and hadnt scored in his previous 19 games. With his assist, St. Louis moved past Jason Arnott into 91st place on the NHL pooints list with 939.dddddddddddd Wheeler put the Jets up 1-0 on his 100th NHL goal 5:25 into the game. His redirection of Jacob Troubas shot eluded Lindback. Winnipeg, which held the lead after the first period for just the fifth time this season, outshot Tampa Bay 15-5 during the opening 20 minutes. "It was a tale of two games," Cooper said. "There was a clear distinction between the first 30 minutes and the last 30 minutes." TAMPA, Fla. -- Jeff Skinner kept up his fine play against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and gave a flicker of hope to the Carolina Hurricanes slim playoff chances. Skinner scored two goals, Cam Ward made 36 saves in his 199th NHL win, and Carolina beat the Lightning 4-2 on Saturday night. "(Tied) on the road going to the third, those are big games, especially down the stretch," Skinner said. "Ward was huge for us. The whole team contributed." Skinner gave Carolina a 3-2 lead when he skated around the net and scored from a tough angle at 6:36 of the third period. Skinner has eight goals and 11 points in 10 games against Tampa Bay. "I saw that ... funny how it works," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller said. "Individuals have certain teams they seem to have success with, but he does it with a huge goal for us tonight. Thats a goal-scorer goal there." Chad LaRose added an empty-netter, giving him a goal in three straight games. Ward stopped all 18 shots he faced in the second period. He made two strong saves on NHL goals leader Steven Stamkos, including a spinning shot by the centre from the low left circle. "Their goalie played great," Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher said. Jaroslav Spacek also scored and Jussi Jokinen had two assists for the Hurricanes. The Lightning, who started a seven-game homestand, got goals from Ryan Malone and Nate Thompson. Tampa Bay dropped five points behind eighth-place Washington in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Carolina trails the Capitals by seven points. "Were quietly sneaking up on teams," Muller said. "Were putting points together. Were playing some good road hockey right now. Really, were doing it as a team." The Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead 12:29 in when Skinner beat rookie goalie Dustin Tokarski with a nifty redirection from just outside the crease off a pass from Jokinen. Thompson stopped a 15-game point drought with a goal that pulled Tampa Bay even at 2 with 2:46 left in the first. Malone put the Lightning up 1-0 just 1:20 in with a rebound goal from the slot. Tampa Bay came out strong after the opening faceoff, getting three shots on Ward in the first minute. "We cant push more than we pushed today," Boucher said. "Our guys had no more juice at the end. They gave everything they had. Our players were up for the challenge, it just didnt turn our way." Carolina took advantage of an interference penalty on Lightning right wing Tim Wallace when Spacek tied it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 3:46. Tokarski, recalled from Norfolk of the AHL on March 7 after starting goalie Mathieu Garon was sidelined by a groin injury, started for the second consecutive game. He made 22 saves, including an in-close stop on a late second-period shot by LaRose. Skinner, LaRose and Jokinen all finished at plus-3 for the game. NOTES: Carolina C Eric Staal played almost 18 minutes despite being ill. ... Hurricanes C Jiri Tlusty left with an undisclosed upper body injury. ... Tampa Bay RW Teddy Purcell had his career-high, 11-game point streak (15 assists, 22 points) end. ... Carolina RW Tuomo Ruutu was in the lineup after missing 10 games with an upper body injury. ... It was Wozniaks second defeat at Roland Garros by a world No. 1 after going out a year ago to then-top player Caroline Wozniacki. "Ive got to bring my game up a notch at the key moments," said Wozniak, who marked a personal anniversary in Paris. TORONTO -- It was such a bad first period, the Toronto Maple Leafs figured they couldnt duplicate the disaster. They were right in that they responded to coach Randy Carlyles goaltending switch to erase a two-goal deficit. Ultimately Toronto lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Detroit Red Wings in a preview of the Winter Classic, but it was the battling back to get a point that had them feeling slightly more upbeat than usual after a defeat. "Well take the point," captain Dion Phaneuf said. "Coming back, I feel that was a big step for our team to come back against a team that doesnt really give up a whole lot. We did a lot of really good things tonight." The good things for the Leafs (18-16-4) came in the second and third periods when they got goals from Phaneuf and Joffrey Lupul to tie the score and then one from the much-maligned David Clarkson to take the lead. That was a complete reversal from the first period, when they squandered the opening goal from defenceman Cody Franson and gave up three goals in 9 minutes 11 seconds to Pavel Datsyuk, Joakim Andersson and Tomas Jurco. "We score the first goal and then we basically stood around for the rest of the period and watched them do their thing," Carlyle said. "They out-competed us badly in the first period." Starting goaltender James Reimer gave up those three goals on 12 first-period shots. He got the hook in favour of Jonathan Bernier at the first intermission, after Carlyle noticed rebounds bouncing away from Reimer and wasnt happy with Anderssons goal going off his stick and in and Jurco shooting the puck through him. Reimer was understandably unhappy with Carlyles decision, which he respected, and also with his performance. "Definitely not what we had in mind, what I had in mind," said Reimer, who was making a third straight start for the first time this season. "They just scored a couple too many goals. Obviously the second one, that cant go in. It was obviously my fault, a hundred per cent. And the third one, they made a nice play, but I think thats one that I can get done on some days, too." The Leafs looked like a completely different team in the second period in front of Bernier. Carlyle was pleased at how his players got pucks deep, cycled, drew penalties and managed to draw even in the game by scoring twice on former Toronto goaltender Jonas Gustavsson, who wound up giving up four goals on 23 shots. "I dont think I had my best game tonight, at least we were able to step up there and get the win," Gustavsson said. Phaneuf said he and his teammates talked about having a better effort in the second period. That showed, and when Clarkson scored 8:32 into the third period Carlyle hoped that kind of "dirty" goal would be able to carry the Leafs. Instead, the Red Wings (17-12-9) were able to tie it on a goal by Tomas Tatar at 13:44 when Niklas Kronwall won a blue-line puck battle against Phil Kessel. "We made a mistake and we couldnt get a puck out along the wall, guy got in behind us, a rebound and then we lost in a shootout," Carlyle said in summing up the Leafs sixth loss in their past seven games. "I think that the way that game developed in the evening, I think we were fortunate to get a point.dddddddddddd" The Red Wings felt fortunate to win in the shootout on goals by Datsyuk and former Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. It was their first victory that way this season after losing their first six shootouts. "It was a mental block for us, shootouts, and to win this one tonight hopefully we can put that behind us and start winning a few," said Alfredsson, who scored the winner. "Winning in overtime last game and now winning in a shootout tonight lessens the grip on the stick next time around." Mike Babcock, coach of the Red Wings and Team Canada, pointed out that he doesnt get so hung up on the shootout performance. But hell take the points from this one, Detroits second straight victory following a six-game losing streak. "I think were a pretty even-keeled group," Babcock said. "We just keep on keeping on. Were going to be fine here in the end. Weve got to get players back and then well start playing with some speed and confidence and tempo and everything." The Red Wings were playing without injured captain Henrik Zetterberg (back), goaltender Jimmy Howard (knee), centre Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) and forwards Gustav Nyquist (groin), Johan Franzen (concussion) and Justin Abdelkader (concussion). They got defenceman Danny DeKeyser back after missing 15 games with a shoulder injury. Carlyle saw similarities between the two teams because the Leafs are still without centres Tyler Bozak (oblique) and Dave Bolland (severed tendon in ankle). But the rest of the team is in tact, and players have been quick to brush injuries off as an excuse. The problem Saturday night wasnt lacking players as much as it was another poor start after Fransons goal 7:15 in. "I didnt think we were ready and we came out a little bit sloppy," said Clarkson, whose go-ahead goal was just his third of the season. "When you allow a team with that much skill and talent to get ahead of you, its hard to battle back, but I think we showed something tonight by battling back. Weve got to be ready from the drop of the puck, be ready to play the way we know we can, the way we did in the second and third." The Leafs play for the final 40 minutes of regulation represented the biggest positive of the night, which was a chance for the teams to feel each other out before meeting in the Winter Classic Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. That game is too far from now for either Toronto or Detroit to focus on. The Leafs concern was about their good and bad effort that led to this shootout loss. "It takes a toll on you trying to dig out of a two-goal hole like that," said Lupul, who had a goal and an assist. "If we take one thing from the game, its probably get off to a little better start." NOTES -- Kessel was held without a goal for the eighth time in 10 games since Bozak went out with his oblique injury. The star winger has two goals and five assists in that time. Defencemen Mark Fraser and Paul Ranger and forward Frazer McLaren were healthy scratches for the Leafs for the second straight game. SALT LAKE CITY -- Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke remains in critical condition two days after surgery to repair a tear to an artery that caused bleeding in her brain. She is being closely monitored in the Neuro Critical Care Unit at University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City. Dr. Safdar Ansari is co-ordinating a team of doctors caring for the 29-year-old skier. In a statement released by Burkes publicist, Ansari says doctors are focused on the "primary injury and preventing secondary brain damage," as well as managing other injuries from Tuesdays accident at the superpipe at Park City Mountain Resort. He says more time is needed before any prognosis can be determined. A press conference is scheduled for Monday at the University of Utah Clinical Neurosciences Center. Burke, a native of Barrie, Ont., who grew up in nearby Midland before moving to Squamish, B.C., was training with a private group at the time of the accident. A four-time Winter X Games champion, Burke is considered a halfpipe pioneer who lobbied tirelessly to get her sport included in the Winter Olympics. So high that you may even get nauseous looking at some of his work. Why does he do it? "I started doing it because I like the views," Oreshkin said. "I like photographing the city and the people I get to spend time with." Sounds like a good enough reason, we guess. The people he spends time climbing with are no less insane than Kirill. As yyou can see in this picture.ddddddddddddHeres a video about Kirill and his exploits. It includes facts like sometimes he likes to just hang off the buildings by only his fingers and all his stunts are done unsupervised and without any safety gear.Enjoy it, watch it, but dont try this at home or any building for that matter.
